23.01.2022 BLAST from the PAST... continued.... Would you believe Car no 3 in the first (black and white ) photo is the same car in the colour shot. Well not exactly... but partly....Peter Warren's car was shown finishing third at Amaroo Park in 1974. But in 1975 the Car won the Australian Production Sports Car Championship over two heats at Calder - beating a Lotus 47 amongst other famous marques. The car won numerous other events before being sold to Barry Main in 1976, racing under t...he TruTrack banner. Main won numerous races, a highlight being a win at Adelaide International Raceway ahead of three other top Bolwell Nagaris - they dominated Production Sports at the time.. When Barry Main hung up his helmet, the chassis was acquired by the Luck Family and in much-modified form, became the chassis for Project Nagari, the brainchild of Rob Luck, one of the authors of Bolwell - An Australian Icon. Rob originally conceived and built the car in the 90s as a Showcar/Racecar and it toured Motor Shows in Australia and Asia, capturing numerous awards. It was tested for a zero-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 300km/h+. The Car is now in the process of morphing into its Third Iteration as a full RoadCar with advanced engineering and electronics in the Modern-Retro Body - Illustration shown. 21.01.2022 BLAST from the Past... Episode Three.... and it gets even better.... when we first posted this picture (thanks to Paul Ritchie and Bob Williamson), reader Garry Sheldrick noted that famed racer Chris Clearihan (second car in this photo) had bought Garry's private Nagari and used it as a roadcar. Garry had lost track of his car and had no idea where it ended up. This is the back story... Garry bought his Nagari from Canberra Sports Car Centre where owner Peter Robinson had ...fitted a 351 Ford V8 - thought to be the first fitted to a Nagari. The car was pristine in yellow livery and enjoyed Media attention including feature articles in Sports Car World and World's Fastest Sportscars (see Garry's posts in the original story). Garry enjoyed the car for some time as a road and sprint car, until a dispute with a tree sidelined it. Graeme Bolwell (the Nagari designer) drove from Melbourne to Canberra, picked up the remnants on a trailer and towed it back to Seaford Melbourne where he re-bodied it and repainted it green. Chris Clearihan, then racing and trading Bolwells in the Canberra area, bought it in 1973 and used it for some time. Wayne Stehbens, an SA Bolwell enthusiast bought the car from Chris and did a major resto and workover, eventually repainting the car blue. That car was featured in our book BOLWELL - AN AUSTRALIAN ICON, in a big double page spread. Ironically, Garry Sheldrick had been given a copy of the book by his children, but was unaware his old car was in the book. He is now able to turn to page 230 and see his original car... for the first time in decades. Proof that Old Bolwells rarely die....
