21.01.2022 Today, Monday 7 September, were celebrating National Threatened Species Day by highlighting the sensitive environments of the Australian Alps and our lesser kn...own species, the pygmy possum. Our Australian Alps cover less than 0.2% of Australia and its many plants and animals are found nowhere else on the planet. Mountain Pygmy Possums were considered extinct until they were rediscovered at a ski lodge in Mt Hotham, Victoria in 1966. Only found in rocky boulder fields in alpine and subalpine areas of the highest mountains of Victoria and NSW, the largest of the pygmy-possums fits into the palm of your hand and is the only Australian mammal that hibernates under the Australian snowpack in winter. https://reclaimkosci.org.au
