22.01.2022 A requested search by Mark Flanigan for information about his grandfather, 1942 Essendon premiership player, Robert "Bluestone" Flanigan. The rugged half back flanker played in all 18 home & away games plus the 3 finals in the 1942 season. 09.01.2022 COLIN CAMPBELL Colin Campbell was one of a number of talented Tasmanians who shone on Melbourne's football grounds in the early years of the game. He was eagerly picked up by Essendon as an 18 year old when he moved to Melbourne in 1891 to study medicine. Campbell played in Essendon's 4 consecutive VFA premierships in his first 4 seasons with the red & black and by 1893 he had been named vice captain of the club.... Campbell retired at the end of the 1896 season aged just 24. His absence was brief as he was coaxed back the following year to play in the finals series. He played a significant role in helping the team win all 3 finals and claim the first ever VFL premiership. The brilliant forward/follower played just 11 more games for Essendon over the next two seasons then moved to the north of England to set up his medical practice. Campbell died in England in 1907 from pneumonia. The 5 time Essendon premiership great was aged just 35. See more
