25.01.2022 Just a quick reminder that we are not at the Barossa Farmers Market this morning. We will be there next Saturday (18th) instead, which will be our last market for a extended period of time. Any pre-orders for next weeks market need to get to Tracy by Tuesday 14th to ensure supply. Thanks for your understanding.

24.01.2022 Cool looking storm rolling in. Oh, and goats!!

23.01.2022 Meat run day today with this gorgeous little one. She slept the whole trip while I delivered 5 goat carcasses to 4 happy restaurants/pubs, so their customers can enjoy our delicious goat meat in the coming weeks. Definitely the whole family involved in this business. I love listening to podcasts while I drive and today I started listening to the new independent podcast from Graziher that I have to share. Loved the first two episodes talking with Julie McDonald and Grace M...cLeod. We have so many amazing women in Agriculture and I can’t wait to hear more of these stories. Make sure you check out the podcast for yourself. Hope you’re having a great day! https://podcasts.apple.com///life-on-the-land/id1528231879

23.01.2022 Who’s been loving our goat hamburgers and sausages? The feedback we’ve been getting tells us you all are! We will have a good supply of both hamburgers and sausages at this weeks @barossafarmersmarket Please remember this will be our last market appearance for some time, as we take a break to enjoy some family time and the pending arrival of our next family addition. ... #kidsofbonchevon #humankidcomingsoon #lovegoatsausages #lovegoathamburgers #go4goat

22.01.2022 Well this was something new for us today. Can you notice the browny/red tinge these little goats have on their white patches? These little ones decided it would be fun to jump in their mums molasses trough. Baths all round for these little ones to get rid of their sticky mess!

22.01.2022 Rudolf has been waiting patiently for Christmas here at the farm (981 Research Road, Ebenezer). He knows it’s getting close now and he’ll be seeing his mates really soon. He wants to make sure Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner & Blitzen all have plenty of energy food to help them make their way around Australia and the rest of the world on Christmas Eve. So, he’s made up some Reindeer Food for the girls and boys to grab so they can put it out at their house... on Christmas Eve. We’d love for you to drop by the farm, say hi to Rudolf, and grab a bag of food for your family to put out on Christmas Eve! If you happen to drop by and there is no food left, be sure to let me know so Rudolf can restock. Have a VERY Merry Christmas Everyone! Be grateful for all the amazing things we have and the beautiful place we live. Stay safe if you are travelling. Hopefully you’ve been good and Santa sneaks a little something for you under your Christmas Tree.

22.01.2022 What a cracker spring day! The perfect day for selecting some young replacement does and putting them out with their new herd. I have been craving some time out with my goats so I’m very grateful for the few hours I got outside today.

20.01.2022 Give Away Time! We will be giving away 2 bags of any compass feed mixes to 3 lucky people. 1. Like our facebook page ... 2. Share this post The 3 winners will be announced at the end of month

20.01.2022 No baby yet so we figure we may as well keep busy. I took our son out to help with hand picking our bush vines this morning. He had an absolute ball! Made a great bucket carrier regularly emptiying his small plastic bucket into the bin roughly every 30seconds. No wonder he was tired tonight. For those who attended our Goatober event last year, these are the vines that produced the Hayes Family Wines Grenache you may have tried on the day.

19.01.2022 Who loves baby goat pictures to kick start your week? We do!! I hope the little motivation, hidden in amongst the goat pictures, helps you have a wonderful week.

17.01.2022 These new arrivals kicked off kidding for us today. One set of stud triplets and a set of stud twins. If the remaining 70 births are this easy we’ll be pretty happy. #kiddingatbonchevon #kidsofbonchevon #familyfarm

16.01.2022 Molasses last week. This week...I have no words. #onlywithgoats #crazykids #kiddingatbonchevon #kidsofbonchevon

16.01.2022 Public holiday feels. Who’s with me?

15.01.2022 Hello 2021!! We hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and welcomed in the New Year with lots of laughter and time with friends. We’ve been very quiet on here lately but we are very glad to say we are back again for another year to see what we can shake up in the world of goat farming! We have big dreams and high hopes for 2021 and we hope you’ll continue to follow us on this journey. Our first goat run for the year kicked off early this morning. If your local to the Baro...ssa and you haven’t tried our goat meat yet, drop by Vintners Bar & Grill and check out our goat on their menu. 2021, for us, is going to be a year about learning and knowledge. Reading lots, learning new things and obtaining knowledge from others who are keen to share. This morning I enjoyed my goat run while listening to an awesome podcast called ‘The Regenerative Journey’ with Charlie Arnott. In particular his episode chatting with David Marsh. Make sure you have a listen yourself. https://podcasts.apple.com//the-regenerative/id1508479507

14.01.2022 Wasted hay, mixed with LOTS of goat poo and some grass clippings, is gonna help this veggie patch grow! Who has advice on where to learn about composting? We’re keen to learn and utilise our waste products from the goats. I’d love to know of some great books/podcasts/websites to look at.

12.01.2022 It’s been a rough few days for us, with the start of kidding being less than ideal. Our does are doing amazing but have been facing relentless foxes attacking every single night. We tried shedding any newborn kids, then moving the herd to a different paddock closer to our farm houses, then bringing in a mature Maremma dog to help our two new pups learn. All with no great success. After loosing another 6 kids on Monday night we called in even more extra help from some fellow... goat producers. We faced last night with 4 Maremma dogs running in our kidding paddock, another 2 running in a nearby paddock plus shedding all 8 newborn kids overnight without their mums. Tough measures but thankfully it seems to have paid off. Before 9pm last night we had our first fox sighting and the dogs gave him one heck of a hurry along. We assume they did their job while we were sleeping because this morning we have all 8 kids alive (and hungry) plus we have a brand new set of triplets. A much nicer way to experience the sunrise this morning. See more

10.01.2022 October has come and gone and sadly we haven’t been able to celebrate Goatober at all this year. We made the decision to not hold an event due to Covid. HOWEVER, I thought we might finish off the month with a little game & giveaway! Who remembers our doe video from a few weeks back with the doe that got stuck on her back? Twice! Well she is due to kid anywhere from this Wednesday (4th Nov) to 3rd Dec. She could come a little earlier, or perhaps go a little later. Who kn...ows! I’m not crazy enough to throw her a baby shower, but I am crazy enough to play a baby shower game. Comment below with your guess on what date J121 will kid and how many kids she will have. Closest guess will win a pack of yummy goat hamburgers! One guess per person please. Here’s a little video to show you all how she’s travelling as of today. How many babies are in there? Guesses close at Midnight on Sunday 1st Nov...unless she kids earlier.

09.01.2022 4 years ago! Love this photo of my dad and Blake. As I write this today, I can see Blake from my kitchen window helping my dad and Owen load sheep onto a truck for carting. He loves it! I get the feeling that farming is in his blood. We may not do everything perfectly here, but it is perfect doing what we love. #4thgenerationfarmeronthisfarm #familyfarm

09.01.2022 Did someone say ‘new handling yards’? It’s been a busy week but it is so good to have these yards in and working. They are awesome! Like everything, we have some minor adjustments to make as we use them but the ease of use is already noticeable. BIG thanks has to go to Owen Bonython, Peter Bonython and Jake Hollitt (Hollitt Contracting) who put in the hard yards (pun intended ) to pull out the old yards, put down the new pad and get the new yards fitted.

08.01.2022 I’ve been a bit slack with our socials lately. Don’t be fooled into thinking we’ve been slacking off in the business though. After taking some much needed time off as a family in early Feb we have since been working hard to keep our business ticking along smoothly while we wait for the arrival of our next human kid. In the last few weeks we have: Welcomed 20 new Fullblood Registered Does to our Bon Chevon herd ... Met some gorgeous little Maremma pups who will hopefully be helping us with some goat protection in the near future Pregnancy tested the 73 does in herd 1 with some great results (look out for lots of goat kid pics in May!) Made use of a local by-product and kept our goats happy and fed with grape Marc from a local winery. Even the big boys got a little treat to enjoy! Fed out lots of hay as it’s still very dry here with no green fed yet...bring on the rain. Set up a new tank and trough system for our sheep as water in our dams and creeks is fast disappearing Delivered our delicious goat meat to a local restaurant for them to use on their menu for the first time (more details to come so watch this space ) Delivering samples for another new restaurant to try ...Plus a few other maintenance and animal health jobs on the farm to keep us busy. It seems there’s always something happening on the farm. #farmlife #familyfarm #gourmetbarossagoats #goatsofbonchevon #familyholidays #maremmapuppies #pregnantgoats #pregnantfemalesinag #grapeinfusedgoat #bucklove #amahlegeneticsrock #hayhaymorehay #hungrygoats #needsummerrain #newrestaurants #go4goat #givegoatago #alwaysbusybutworthit #lovewhatwedo

06.01.2022 Our newest little goat wrangler has arrived at Bon Chevon. We reckon you’re going to fit right in Miss Chelsea. #newestbonchevonfamilymember #familylove #familybusiness

05.01.2022 This is it! We’re here @barossafarmersmarket for the last time before baby #2’s arrival. We have Bratwurst Sausages, Shoulder Roasts, Loin Chops, Hamburgers, Easy-Carve Leg Roasts, Shanks & Diced all available. Come see us and stock up on goat meat before it’s all gone! #lastmarketprebaby #familyfarm #buylocal #supportlocal #go4goat

03.01.2022 Don’t panic, farmers have your back Shoppers see empty shelves and worry about a food shortage - this is not the case. The amount of food we’re growing hasn’t... changed & it won’t. We’re asking consumers to #calmyourfarm because Aussie farmers have #gotyourback For more information visit: https://buff.ly/2U4rMyw

03.01.2022 We’re really pumped to be getting back into the swing of things after Covid-19 slowed sales right down, and what better way than to pair up with The Roaming Spit. A match made in heaven.

03.01.2022 It’s less than 2 weeks before we’re due to start kidding, so it’s time for our new apprentice to learn the ropes of morning checks. Of course, every good farmer needs appropriate footwear and you can’t get much more suited than these little shoes. Chelsea received these as a gift from her talented Aunty Kerry (Please an' Ta). Custom made Boer goat booties. How adorable are they? #boergoatshoes #dothesecomeinadultsizes #pleaseanta #handmade #sasmallbusiness #supportlocal #kidsofbonchevon @ Barossa Valley, South Australia

01.01.2022 A very foggy, but gorgeous, morning for our goat run. What should have been a rushed trip (as I may have slept in ) was turned into a slow drive to carefully make it through the fog. The sun was just peeking out on the last stretch home. Beautiful way to start the day. Today I’m just a little bit more grateful than normal for our Bon Chevon Nanna, who comes to look after our kids (human ones) at 6:15am once a month so I can do the goat run. Today she was also my alarm clock. Thanks Nanna. What are you grateful for today?
