25.01.2022 A healthy body image means you feel comfortable in your body and you feel good about the way you look. This includes what you think and feel about your appearance and how you judge your own self-worth. A negative body image can put you at higher risk of certain mental health conditions, such as eating disorders and depression. Past events and circumstances can cause you to have a negative body image, including:... Being teased or bullied as a child for how you looked Being told you’re ugly, too fat, or too thin or having other aspects of your appearance criticized Seeing images or messages in the media (including social media) that make you feel bad about how you look Being underweight, overweight, or obese In rare cases (approx. 1 2 % of the Australian population) people can have such a distorted view of their bodies that they have a mental health condition called body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). #bondibeachsydney #doctorsofinstagram #healthjourney #sydneydoctors #boutiquemedicine #bondidoctors #physicalhealth #selfawareness #mentalhealthcare #mentalhealthhelp #mentalhealthadvocacy #mentalhealthadvice #mentalhealthproblems #mentalhealthaustralia #humanpsychology #psychologyandmore #psychologydaily #psychologylove #socialpsychology #psychologysays #mentalhealthquotes #mentalhealthwarrior #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthtips #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthstigma #mentalhealthjourney #mentalhealthmatters #suicideprevention #mentalillness

22.01.2022 NSW Health has confirmed that a person who was infected with COVID-19 attended Fitness First Platinum, Bondi Junction on Monday morning, 31 August 2020. This person is associated with the City Tattersalls cluster. "There is no ongoing health risk at Bondi Junction Platinum Fitness First," the health department told @sydneymorningherald ... NSW Health has contacted the list of people who attended the facility on the morning of the 31 August 2020 to assess their level of exposure to the infection. Those deemed as close contacts of the case will be in isolation for 14 days since the time of contact.

20.01.2022 So, you've been on the pill for a good part of your 20s and now, after years of wanting to prevent pregnancy, you're thinking having a baby doesn't feel as far off as it used to. Do you need to "give your body a rest" from the pill? Will your fertility be affected by long-term use of the pill?... No and no. We know there is a common misconception that women who are on the contraceptive pill may find it more difficult to fall pregnant when they stop taking the pill. The truth is that most women return to the same level of fertility they had before taking the oral contraceptive pill. This myth is so pervasive that researchers have identified fear of infertility as a key reason for women avoiding this effective form of contraception. It’s difficult to assess the effects of the pill on a woman’s fertility when so many other factors may be contributing. Some women will return to their normal levels of hormone secretion within a couple of days of ceasing the pill. Others may take up to six or 12 months. But the majority of women will return to normal within the first few months. Overall, the pill - when taken as directed - is extremely effective at inhibiting fertility in the short term. With the evidence showing no long-term impact on fertility. Are you looking at contraceptive options? Or perhaps you're looking to conceive and want to discuss fertility. Book an appointment with one of our GPs through our website to discuss your options. #bondibeachsydney #doctorsofinstagram #womeninmedicine #sydneydoctors #boutiquemedicine #bondidoctors #womenshealth #contraception #iud #thepill #womenshormones #reproductivehealth #fertility #menstrualhealth #sexualhealth #womensupportingwomen #womenshealthmatters #menstrualcycle #periodpain #endometriosis #endomestriosisawareness #sydneyhealth #womenshealthcare #hormonaliud #womenshealthtips #fertilityawareness #birthcontrolproblems

19.01.2022 Join us for Women's Health Week! Women’s Health Week is the perfect time to put the focus back on you and your health.

17.01.2022 We know that women can tend to put the needs of their loved ones before themselves on top of that many have faced additional stress, anxiety and financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ...even in the most difficult times, it’s important to take care of your own health and wellbeing." Dr Lara Roeske (RACGP) This week is Women's Health Week, so it is a great opportunity for women to remember to see their doctor for regular women's health checks.

17.01.2022 Some mistakes have big consequences. Genome sequencing confirms what has been suspected for some time; the second wave in Victoria is the result of failures in hotel quarantine. It's a reminder of the importance self quarantine. If you're unwell, get tested and please _stay home_

17.01.2022 Asking someone R U OK? Is the first very important step, but what do you do if they say no? When someone is not ok, the subsequent conversation about mental health can be difficult. While it is not expected that everyone having these conversations is a mental health professional, knowing what to say or what not to say is important.... By taking the time to listen to others, and validate their feelings, people experiencing mental illness can feel more empowered. We know that 2020 has been a challenging year for many and while COVID-19 will have an impact, for some of people, naming defined reasons for their feelings can be difficult. Sometimes people struggle over everyday things, or feel on top of the world one day, and desperately sad the next those feelings are perfectly normal, but if they become overwhelming, professional help should be sought.

08.01.2022 HELLO! This week we're excited to chat with wonderful Dr Steve Massey about life outside the doctor's office... What does your ideal Sunday look like? Sleep in, make pancakes with the kids followed by an uncrowded surf. I can dream, can't I?... What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? Support your child to become the person they want to be, not the person you want them to be. If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be? Now would be a useful time to be an expert in immunology and vaccine development. Otherwise I'd take being an expert home handyman. If you could only choose one destination to travel to, where would you choose and why? There are uncrowded coastal corners of WA that I can't wait to travel back to. Like a good fishing spot; I can't reveal any more than that. Steve has a particular interest in skin medicine, and specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of skin disease. This is particularly important as we head into summer, where sun safety becomes an even more salient issue. Make an appointment with Steve through our website. #bondibeachsydney #doctorsofinstagram #healthjourney #sydneydoctors #boutiquemedicine #bondidoctors #physicalhealth #selfawareness #meetthedoctor #doctorbio #gettoknowus #gettoknowmechallenge #doctoroftheday #doctorofthefuture #doctoroffice #doctorofmedicine #doctordoctor #personalinsight #generalpractice #generalpractice #familymedicine #bestmedicine #gettoknowme #meettheteam #healthmatters #healthfirst #healthcoaching #bio #doctor #healthiswealth

06.01.2022 Getting quality sleep in pregnancy can be a challenge. From 28 weeks it is recommended that pregnant women sleep on the left side, but why? Lying on your back puts pressure on major blood vessels. This can reduce the flow of blood to your womb, and restrict your baby’s oxygen supply. Research has shown that sleeping on your side can reduce the risk of stillbirth by half.... You can make it more comfortable, by bending your knees and putting a pillow between your legs. You can also put a pillow under your belly for support. If you wake and find you’ve been asleep on your back, turn onto your side. If it happens a lot, put a pillow behind your back so rolling over onto your back is more difficult. #bondibeachsydney #doctorsofinstagram #healthjourney #sydneydoctors #boutiquemedicine #bondidoctors #physicalhealth #selfawareness #antenatalsharedcare #antenatal #antenataleducation #pelvicfloorexercises #pelvichealth #midwiferycare #pregnancycare #pregnancycarecenter #expectingparents #pregnancyaustralia #royalhospitalforwomen #mumandbub #prenatal #pregnancyjourney #mumandbaby #midwifelife #obgyn #obstetrics #babymamma #pregnancy #expecting #genderreveal

05.01.2022 The experts continue to learn more about COVID-19, which can help us all better understand what to look out for. Most cases in NSW have reported mild respiratory illness. However, one in five cases reported severe respiratory symptoms, including pneumonia, shortness of breath or acute respiratory disease. Young children were more likely to report no symptoms during their initial interview with NSW Health.... Older people had more severe respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath, pneumonia, and acute respiratory distress. @bondidoctorsgpclinic #healthcare #sydneyGP #staysafe

05.01.2022 Many parents ask us for advice on safe, easy ways to administer medicine to their children. Here are a few tips: - Always read the dose and prescribe according to your child’s _current_ body weight.... - Use a dosing syringe that makes it easy to measure the correct amount of medicine. - It is not a good idea to mix the medicine with other substances such as milk or juice. - For young children, it sometimes works well to place the syringe at the side of the child’s mouth and squirt slowly. - Be positive: encouragement and enthusiasm goes a long way - if you get frustrated, chances are your children will respond the same way. - If your child is old enough you can demonstrate how it works with a doll or toy Dolly is going to have some medicine...now it's your turn...are you ready?! #bondibeachsydney #doctorsofinstagram #healthjourney #sydneydoctors #boutiquemedicine #bondidoctors #physicalhealth #selfawareness #childhealth #paediatrics #paediatrician #kidshealthyliving #kidsmentalhealth #creativekidstuff #creativekidsrock #childdevelopmentspecialist #parentingsupport #parentinghelp #healthyparenting #kidsaustralia #childrenshealth #kidshealth #raisingboys #raisingkings #raisinggirls #raisingqueens #smartkid #parenting #childhood #knowledgeispower See more

04.01.2022 It's unclear why people who engage in positive thinking experience the health benefits we outlined in our previous post. One theory is that having a positive outlook enables you to cope better with stressful situations, which reduces the harmful health effects of stress on your body. It's also thought that positive and optimistic people tend to live healthier lifestyles they get more physical activity, follow a healthier diet, and don't smoke or drink alcohol in excess. So ...practice selecting positive thoughts and see how your day improves! #bondibeachsydney #doctorsofinstagram #healthjourney #sydneydoctors #boutiquemedicine #bondidoctors #physicalhealth #selfawareness #mentalhealthcare #mentalhealthhelp #mentalhealthadvocacy #mentalhealthadvice #mentalhealthproblems #mentalhealthaustralia #humanpsychology #psychologyandmore #psychologydaily #psychologylove #socialpsychology #psychologysays #mentalhealthquotes #mentalhealthwarrior #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthtips #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthstigma #mentalhealthjourney #mentalhealthmatters #suicideprevention #mentalillness See more

02.01.2022 HELLO! This week we're excited to chat with wonderful Dr Jin Choong about life outside the doctor's office... What does your ideal Sunday look like? Either reading a book cuddling with my Burmese cats, or out walking, looking at and photographing beautiful scenery.... What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? If you die tomorrow, other doctors will look after your patients. So take care of yourself. If you could give your younger self any advice, what would it be? Eventually everything works out, so don’t worry too much. I can’t leave home without My OCD recitation routine, keys, hanky, watch, wallet, phone. What is your favourite aspect of general practice? Meeting the beautiful people and hearing their stories admiring the beautiful fabric of life. Jin has a particular interest in paediatrics, sports medicine, musculoskeletal conditions, travel medicine and women’s health. He also speaks Mandarin and Cantonese! Make an appointment with Dr Jin through our website.

01.01.2022 So your newborn was gaining weight week on week and you thought you had things sort of under control. Then all of a sudden weight gain slowedwhat is going on? Don’t panic! Ask yourself the following questions: Have there been any changes in your baby's behaviour? For example, has your baby been taking fewer feeds as a result of sleeping longer at night?... Have you been trying to feed at set times instead of when the baby indicates hunger? Have you (mum) been feeling stressed or unwell? For some women this can cause a temporary dip in milk supply. Have you just started a new medication such as the contraceptive pill? Could you be pregnant? These factors can cause a dip in your supply. Has your baby been ill? Even a small cold can disrupt feeding and weight gain for a week or two. Has your baby previously gained well and is now slowing down normally? It is very normal for an exclusively breastfed baby's weight gain to slow down at 3-4 months. The World Health Organisation child growth standards, based on healthy breastfed babies, support this. In most cases of sudden weight change, a 'wait-and-see' approach is justified if your baby seems happy and other indicators of growth and health are fine. If there seems to be a temporary low supply problem, offering a couple of extra breastfeeds a day can help avoid a more serious situation. If you are concerned, contact your GP. Midwifery and lactation advice can also really help if you are worried.
