25.01.2022 Tonight is Guru Purnima. This is the most auspicious night on the Vedic calendar. Its when, under the full moon, we give our conscious attention to those teachers who have helped us along our journey. Thank you especially to @thethomknoles @jonnipollard @theanandmehrotra @laura_poole We are holding our own Guru Purnima ceremony tonight at BMC where we will perform Puja, the traditional Vedic ceremony of gratitude. Everyone will offer a flower and request a boon (wish). I...t is said that, if the request benefits the individual and the greater good simultaneously, it will be granted. Were at (Covid-reduced) capacity for the in-person event but if youd like to join us on Zoom you can find the link in the bio. You can still make a wish if you join us online. Simply offer a flower at the conclusion of Puja and hold your wish in consciousness, then meditate as normal. With love and JGD Matt & Mairead #vedicmeditation #gurupurnima

25.01.2022 Hi! My name is Ria. I’m Bondi Meditation Centre’s new administrator. I moved to Bondi last year from Byron Bay to study Business and Creative Intelligence/Innovation and I love it here! In my free time I love going on adventures with friends, icy dips in the ocean, having a bit of a boogie... and not to forget... meditating somewhere along the coastal walk.... I’m so excited that I’m part of the coolest team in the world and I can’t wait to get to know you all! Love Ria x #bondi #vedicmeditation

24.01.2022 Hi, We’re the faces behind Bondi Meditation Centre and today we celebrated our newest team member Ria Already proving to be the perfect addition to our team. There were some serious lunch discussions happening...... * Non alcoholic wine and it’s lack of a mid-palate... (for those of you who didn’t know Matt used to be a wine dealer before he became a meditation teacher) * How much Tottis bread is too much? * And of course a deep Vedic discussion on speech and it’s influence to manifest... stirring up juicy topics for our next podcast (recording next week ) Introduce yourselves to Ria next time you’re in the centre or online! Mairead, Matt, Anna and Ria X

24.01.2022 This experience of @danpricey85 is not unusual. Even after their very first experience of Vedic Meditation, its common for our students to report feeling calmer and more peaceful. This is because we relax so deeply in Vedic Meditation - more deeply than in sleep believe it or not - that our body produces lots of bliss chemistry. Serotonin and dopamine production is immediately increased and at the same cortisol and adrenaline production is reduced. The result? Improved mood and reduced anxiety, in most cases as soon you begin the practice. #vedicmeditation #bondi #bondibeach #meditation

23.01.2022 Ancient artefact For those asking about the ayurvedic curry recipes from this weekends rounding retreat, all the secrets are in here. The Ayurvedic Cookbook by Amadea Morningstar. As I think may be evident from the state of it, this is a very well-used cookbook! I mustve cooked my favourite five or six recipes from this book literally hundreds of times.... Poor old Jack, my youngest son, had to endure endless dahls and curries as he was growing up before totally rebelling and vowing never to eat a lentil again! If you buy another cookbook ever, let it be this. Love in food form. Matt @ North Bondi

22.01.2022 After a brief hiatus while Anna was adventuring, were back with a new episode of our podcast Very Vedic. In this one we explore: Creativity - where it comes from, why its important and how to enjoy more of it.... Trust - its role in spiritual development and how to build it Michael Jackson - Can we separate the art from the artist? Should we continue to listen to his music? We hope you enjoy! We love and Jai Guru Deva Matt & Anna #veryvedic #vedicmeditation #vedicknowledge #wisdom #spirituality #vedicworldview

21.01.2022 I feel lucky in that Im generally pretty easy to please. Give me a meditation, a coastal walk and a Gertrude and Alice chai and Im surprisingly fulfilled in the repetition of it all. But last week I encountered something a little unexpected: boredom. When Covid first hit it brought with it a wave of creativity as we all adapted to the new reality. There was a helluva lot of baking happening for a while and quite a bit of knitting. Not for me personally, but I found creative... projects to keep me busy too. As often happens when destruction comes in, it was a fertile time. But it feels like were well into a new phase now. Lets call it the Covid Maintenance Phase (CMP). Doing the same thing over and over again can have its place. Habitual behaviours and rituals can be supportive - take twice daily meditation for example. But there can come a point where repetitive patterns start to become the predominant feature of our lives. Same cafe, same route to work, same home-entertainment after work etc. And when this happens things dry up. Enthusiasm, joy, love, excitement, fulfilment all become less abundant. Basically satisfaction levels plummet and things get boring. At the moment, as our freedoms are somewhat limited, its even easier than usual to fall into these repetitious patterns. Less social experiences. Less holiday options. Less new people to meet. And perhaps a tendency to lean extra heavily on familiar comforts..... 20.01.2022 Team BMC in the kitchen. Something I havent done for a long time: cooking an ayurvedic curry for a group of people doing vedic rounding. I did this a lot during my Vedic Meditation teacher training back in 12 with @btheo @laura_poole @ @veromeditation @charlieknoles @beejameditation @mathieucarlot @garygorrow and @thethomknoles among others. That kitchen was one of the few soothing places for me during those arduous three months. On the menu today is the classic tridoshic... vegetable curry with rice and cucumber raita. Relegated to sous-chef for the day @maireadball #vedicmeditation #meditation #vedicroundingretreat #urbanretreat #ayurveda #ayurvediccooking #bondi #bondibeach @ Bondi Meditation Centre

20.01.2022 Before we start meditating we are experts in, and totally obsessed with, the external world.. What we are good at, what we are bad at, how we look, how we compare to others, what people think of us etc. It consumes all our attention. When we close our eyes to meditate we are said to be undertaking an ‘inward journey’ to discover our ‘inner self’. But what does any of this mean? Where exactly is this inward journey taking us, what is this mysterious inner self and why would be... bother with any of it? Ok, in order: The inward journey is the process of exploring the realms of experience that underly the world we see around us. There are more layers of reality than meet the eye, from the most physical layer we all experience in the outer world through to the more subtle, deeper layers that we generally need some kind of vehicle to explore. Some people might use psychoactive drugs as that vehicle and as Vedic Meditators we use a mantra. The inner self is the place we find on that inward journey. It is the silent, unchanging essence of ourselves that sits beneath our subconscious, unaffected by all its history, attachments and neurosis. Why bother with any this? Because it is the only way we will experience what we really want from life: supreme inner contentedness, enthusiasm and joy. The truth is that these things are not available in any consistent way in the usual places we look for them. No matter how busy we are trying to do well at life, no amount of achievements or acquisitions will satisfy us for long before dissatisfaction returns and we feel the need to strive for the next thing. Meditating allows us to experience and be infused by the supreme contentedness of the inner self. And when we open our eyes fulfilment, rather than dissatisfaction, becomes our baseline state. Interested? Does this raise questions for you? Or does it sound like a load of nonsense? Click Book Now in our bio to sign up for a free intro talk and come and experience for yourself.

19.01.2022 Help is at hand... Not being able to switch off, ruminating over work, going around and around in negative thinking. This is the modern normal, but it does not have to be. There is a solution on your doorstep.... Welcome to Bondi Meditation Centre. Solving these problems is what we do. We teach you to meditate and provide ongoing support so you can experience the freedom that comes from regular meditation. All you need to do is visit our website to sign up to one of our weekly free, no obligation, Introductory Talks to find out more.

18.01.2022 The cure for suffering that Maharishi is talking about in this quote from his commentary on the Bhagavad Gita is that state we encounter in meditation where we contact a place of stillness beyond separation, beyond things. As we meditate regularly this sense of an all-infusing, all-uniting stillness starts to permeate us and our experience in the world of things. And as it does, deep acceptance and perspective arises and suffering falls away proportionally. 16.01.2022 The Vedic view is that randomicity and luck dont exist. Its not a random universe. For example what are the chances, from the Vedic view that you would think of a friend that you hadnt seen for years and that they would call you the next second? If that thing happened, the chances are, and always were, 100%. All behaviour is symphonic. Every event, form and phenomena is perfectly aligned and correlated to work in harmony with all others and maintain balance in the Universe.... So the question isnt how many coincidences are happening. Its how many coincidences we are missing. #vedicmeditation #spirituality #vedicknowledge #thomknoles

16.01.2022 Do you have life questions that puzzle you? Should you leave the relationship you’re in, or keep trying? Can we really manifest anything we want?... Should we still listen to Michael Jackson’s music? For answers to these and lots of other curly ones, check out Very Vedic on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

14.01.2022 Episode 2 of Season 3 of Very Vedic is now live! In this one we explore competitiveness. We find out that Matt was a competitive nightmare and how he managed to rein it in. We also examine why it’s so easy to get caught up in the status game in general, and the rewards for opting out of it. Finally we take a good look at social media, what's really going on in here and whether there is a way to use it healthily.... As soon as we finished recording this one we agreed it was our favourite for a while, possibly ever. We hope you enjoy! Link to listen in bio. 12.01.2022 Its easy to become blas about what our Vedic mantra brings us. You go to meet your Vedic Meditation teacher and they give a little sound and a way to think it inside. You go away and do it and life gets better in all sorts of ways.... Im reflecting on this today after my student @m_jenks called me up and said Imagine if wed never meditated - how different life would be I suddenly realised all the gifts my mantra has given me that I now take for granted. Heres my top five: 1. Freedom from addictions 2. Being a much better Dad 3. A feeling of excitement with the flow of life. 4. Unconditional love for people and things 5. Fearlessness. Comment below your favourite gift your mantra has given you. With love and Jai Guru Deva Matt #vedic #vedicmeditation #transcendentalmeditation #bondi #meditation #spirituality #transcend #surrender #growth #change #inspiration #acceptance #exploringtheveda #etv #maharishi #wisdom #knowledge #consciousness #thomknoles #transcendence #bondibeach #wellbeing #eckharttolle

12.01.2022 Id like to share with you one of the most helpful spiritual teachings anyone has ever given me (Warning: it involves the G-word but hopefully that wont trigger you too much to appreciate the message) The Vedic view is that we are all expressions of consciousness. Consciousness conceives, constructs and governs all reality with one overall intention: evolution. This means that everything and everyone we interact with is purpose-built and precision-placed to help us on our j...ourney of growth. So that person who did that thing to you is not your enemy or your nemesis. They are not responsible for holding you back, limiting you or ruining your experience. No matter how unfair, damaging or cruel their behaviour towards you might be, they are ultimately a divine blessing sent to help you. Or to put it another way, they are God playing a cameo role in our life in the form of this person to help us grow in some way. Recognising the truth in this can be a powerful way of dissolving resentment and maybe also of opening us up to the lesson on offer. #vedicmeditation #vedicknowledge #veryvedic #spiritualquotes #wisdom #resentment

11.01.2022 Change is a gift One of the most transformative things we can do for ourselves is to culture an attitude of being enthusiastic about change. The Vedic view is that all change is progressive change. Things remain relevant and supportive of our evolution for a certain period of time and then they become irrelevant. They may even start to strain our evolution. At that point there is a change, and the change ushers in the next stage of our evolution.... We can spend so much time and energy clinging onto things when their relevance has passed. If we look back we can see examples in our lives of when we desperately held onto something and lost it anyway. But how would it have been if we still had the thing? Probably pretty awful! The wisdom of hindsight will always say Im glad that happened. So next time we encounter change - even (especially) unexpected, dramatic change - can we embrace it enthusiastically? Can we recognise the process of evolution driving the change? Can we be open to receiving the gifts which that change brings? Save this post as a reminder for the next time change presents itself. 10.01.2022 Little known fact: the Beatles did many, many hours of Vedic rounding when they were in Rishikesh in the 1960s with our teachers teacher Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Up to 14 hours a day in fact as they were doing (although never completing) their meditation teacher training there. The song Dear Prudence even references rounding. It was inspired by actress Mia Farrows sister, Prudence Farrow, who was with them in Rishikesh and became obsessive about rounding and wouldnt come out and play with them! Well only get up to 7 hours a day of rounding on our retreat this weekend, but thats still a very deep clean of the system. Maharishi is on record as saying that a weekend of rounding releases the equivalent stress of six months of 2x20 mins / day meditation.

09.01.2022 BMC Film Review: The Octopus Teacher (Netflix) A documentary telling the story of the film maker’s year with an octopus in a kelp forest. No giggling at the back but it’s a love story in the truest sense. I definitely ‘had something in my eye’ towards the end. Massive recommendation. Some words from filmmaker’s narration to give you a flavour:... A gentleness. That’s what thousands of hours in Nature can teach you. You start to care about all the animals, even the very littles ones. You realise how important they all are. Nature is speaking to you. It’s language is visible. I feel in love with that wildness that she (the octopus) represented. 07.01.2022 Take someone who is already too busy, who doesn’t have enough hours in the day to get everything done. Take 2 x 20 mins away from them. Ta-dah! They have more time in their day to get everything done!... How is this magic possible? 2 x 20 minutes of meditation makes us more efficient. We spend less time on the emotional component of tasks and more time on the task itself. When we meditate our decision making becomes faster and more accurate. The mental blocks we have to doing things melt away. It takes things out of the too-hard box and suddenly they are simple. Our productivity goes up. We have gift vouchers available for that person in your life who is far too busy to meditate. Email us at [email protected] and we’ll organise everything for you. Love from Team BMC DISCLAIMER: the above may not apply in the same way to mums of babies or very young children - for the simple reason that they may not allow you your 2 x 20 mins! We have special ‘Mums’ programs available for you guys.

06.01.2022 The Veda talks of two types of activities: Preyas - that which is desirable but not necessarily evolutionary Shreyas - that which is evolutionary but not necessarily desirable... These options constantly present themselves to us. Classic example (for me anyway): the ayurvedic lifestyle vs old treat-based living. In the morning the preyas option is to lounge in bed for as long as possible. The body and mind can be most insistent on the warm snuggly bed being the best choice. A shreyus alternative would be to get up and greet the sunrise. Which approach delivers more fulfilment? Initially it might seem like the treat of the lie-in. It can feel rather lovely of course, but it comes with side-effects. The longer we lie in beyond 6am the more we carry a groggy, less clear quality through our day. When we get up at sunrise we capture a lighter, more energised feeling and that accompanies us through our day. If presented with the choice between some kind of fun takeaway or an ayurvedic kitcheri (lentil and rice based nutritious stodge), I am tempted by the instant gratification of the takeaway. I may even go for it (I know! Bad meditation teacher!) The mind hypes up the experience of eating the junk food, promising some kind of hit from consuming it. But my, what a dirty hit it is: short-lived and followed by an instant comedown as my body struggles to process it. When I eat the ayurvedic meal there is actually a wholesomeness and comfortingness to the experience. And afterwards, as the nutrition is assimilated gratefully by my body, there is a steady and supportive energy which feels good and helps me get things done. Where am I going with this, other than kind of telling you what you already know? What I am saying is dont believe the hype! The hype our minds can create around what will make us feel good. Around what constitutes a treat when in fact something much more fulfilling is on offer. And as you will have experienced, if we do choose the shreyus option, we quickly find ourselves in a positive spiral. By consistently following shreyus, the evolutionary choice itself starts to become desirable and true fulfillment makes its way into our lives. @ Bondi Beach

03.01.2022 BMC FILM REVIEW We were drawn to the film Honeyland after seeing it placed number one in the New York Times Best Films of 2019 LIST. A no.1 film about a women making honey? The article said it was a documentary that played out as a real life drama. How accurate that was. This is life as raw and unfiltered as the central character Hatidzes wild honey. All that is on show here is Nature: human nature, the laws of Nature and what happens when the two interact. Hatidzes story ...of attempting to preserve the traditional beekeeping and honey-making methods in the face of the forces which threaten them, plays out as a parable of humans relationships with the world today. #vedicmeditation #filmreview #filmrecommendation #honeyland

02.01.2022 Always know that everyone is doing their best at any time. Our behaviour is determined by our state of consciousness. Our state of consciousness determines the quality of our behaviour, the extent to which we can have a desire to behave better or even have an awareness that better behaviour is possible.... It is so engrained in us to to condemn anothers behaviour, as if by doing so we are playing our part in upholding social or moral standards when in fact the opposite is closer to the truth. Condemnation has no power to raise consciousness, and very limited power to improve behaviour. In fact, by putting our attention on things we disapprove of, we are more likely to sustain or even grow those qualities. A far more effective way to improve the behaviour of others is to inspire them through love and high, loving action. Simply giving them this experience creates some raising of consciousness which they experience as upliftment and a desire to be better.
