13.01.2022 We all know that smoke alarms are an essential part of your home, but do you know just how important they really are? All smoke alarms have a 10 year warranty (expiry date is located inside the alarm). What this means is if you or your tenant experiences a fire today, and the smoke alarm is expired, you will be liable under the current law to pay a penalty of $750 for having not met all the legislated responsibilities of a home owner. Remember, just because your alarm sounds, doesn't mean that the alarm is still under warranty. As a landlord or property owner, it is your responsibility to make sure your smoke alarms are all under warranty.
