24.01.2022 UPDATE 9am Thursday 30th July. EASTERN SUBURBS COVID As you are aware the Eastern Suburbs now has a number of new cases, and the lines at the Bondi testing station are very large. The Club wishes to stay open for members but needs everyones vigilance and compliance to remain in operation.... APOLLO INFECTION There were 4 club members at the Apollo restaurant last Thursday night, and unbeknownst to them this was a site where a staff member had an infection. They have all been tested and all 4 have tested negative, but given they were at a known infection hotspot they will need to remain in isolation until the 7th August. I thank them all for their rapid notice to the club of their situation, in different circumstances this could have lead to a widespread outbreak amongst our members and they should be congratulated and supported. The club closed between Monday evening and Wednesday morning while we are awaiting results from these members to ensure that both the club and our emergency call out teams would not be impacted by any potential infection spread. We are overjoyed that our members tested negative but it is a timely reminder of the need for all members of the community to ensure they are following all Covid precautions to protect themselves and the community.

20.01.2022 Bring on the weekend It will be another jam-packed weekend at Bondi with ocean swimming and surf awareness programmes supported by our members keeping the beach busy. On a wet and windy morning last Saturday, Can Too Run and Swim's Bondi pods completed their final surf sessions with Bondi water safety in support. This Sunday they'll be completing their goal swim in the North Bondi Classic Ocean Swim. Best of luck to the more than 100 Bondi-pod swimmers with their swim and the...ir fundraising for cancer research. Swim Sisters (previously known as Burkini Babes) kicked off last Saturday with a beach awareness session led by Bondi lifesavers Sarah Forde and Ali Wilson. You’ll see these women on the beach every Saturday morning for the next eight weeks being helped out by graduates from previous years’ programmes who are now patrolling members at Garie Surf Life Saving Club. And the hugely popular and rewarding Autism Swim Dippers programme will hit the water for the third week in their four-week programme. In the past year or so, there have been regular sightings of dolphins in the bay and a whale that came a bit closer than usual on its southern migration. Members will be saddened to hear of the untimely passing of former Long Service Member Warwick The Gypsy Niblock, who passed away last night (19 October 2020) after suffering two major strokes in recent days. A keen former ‘boatie’ and active player in the heydays of the Bondi Lifesavers Rugby Club, Warwick and his wife Patricia had been residing at Kingscliff on the Far North NSW Coast. Warwick was 71. 16.01.2022 Sydney Branch has announced the winners of Champion Lifesaver events at the recent Branch carnival held at Maroubra. Affectionately known as the heptathlon of lifesaving, Champion Lifesaver is an individual event with seven sections testing the physical, lifesaving and knowledge skills required of a lifesaver. To be successful, a competitor needs to be an all rounder completing a questionnaire based on the current Bronze Medallion manual, patient assessment, timed CPR on a ma...nikin, a board race, a surf race, a tube race with fins and a beach sprint. Bondi fielded an impressive team and brought home a number of medals including a clean sweep in the Open Male event and wins in both the U15 Male and U17 Female. In four weeks, Bondi's Champion lifesavers will also compete in the team equivalent (Patrol Competition) for the first time. Congratulations on an amazing effort at Branch and best of luck for State! Ray received his 60 year Long Service award in 2017 after joining on the 9th Feb 1953. Ray, who has lived in recent years on the Queensland Gold Coast, was 83 years of age. 05.01.2022 Today we remember Tom Meagher, one of our club greats. Meagher Patrol is named after Tom Meagher O.B.E, who was said to have lived "for SLSA and what it stands for. He is one of our great club legends, received many awards for bravery and was awarded Life Membership to Bondi SBLSC in 1932. Meagher was Chief Beach Inspector at Bondi on Black Sunday (6 February 1938). He saw service in the Pacific during World War II and established the Solomon Islands Surf Club in 1944 along ...with Carl Jeppeson. There were many SLSA Instructional Teams on which he served and in 1939 he represented Bondi in the SLSA of Australia March Past Team. In 1954 Tom Meagher was presented to HM Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Command Surf Carnival held on Bondi Beach. Tom held the position of President of Surf Life Saving NSW. SLS Beachsafe advice on tre...ating bluebottle stings is: * Wash off any remaining tentacles with salt water or pick off with your fingers (they can’t usually sting through the tough skin on your fingers!) * Immerse the sting in hot water (no hotter than can be easily tolerated) * If local pain is not relieved or immersion facilities are not available, the application of cold packs or wrapped ice is also effective. 01.01.2022 Bondi's latest group of Bronze trainees spent most of their weekend at the beach, completing their First Aid training on top of their usual Sunday morning practical skills session. The First Aid course is an integral part of Bronze Medallion training and is a nationally accredited certificate recognised on and off the beach. The team - you'll recognise them on the beach in their "pink and greens" along with their trainers wearing fluoro orange - are reaching the half way mar...k in their course. As graduates, they'll don the red and yellow and join the family of volunteers who patrol Australia's beaches. Siobhan has been nominated as a Westfield Local Hero for her cancer fitness program. This recognition and awards program celebrates individuals whove made a positive impact in their local community or environment. ... Through her commitment to fundraising efforts, Siobhan has raised much-needed funds for the pilot Cancer Exercise Prehab program at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney. The program needs $120,000 a year to treat 150-200 patients.
