25.01.2022 Rainbow Eggs The pullets have started laying pretty little coloured eggs. I hope I get some pink egg layers as well.

24.01.2022 Dora the Explorer Dora a blue copper marans loves to walk up the stays in her pen hops onto a corner post and goes exploring for the day. She is mostly lined up to be let back in at bedtime. She has also won a couple of best of breed at rare breed shows.

24.01.2022 Cuckoo Silkie project I penned the cuckoo silkies today. I chose this lad over his 2 brothers to be the lead boy. I didnt breed them last year so it will be nice to get some chicks this year.

24.01.2022 Pen cleaning Due to my hip replacement and knee rebuild in December my pens are long overdue for a clean. With everyone moulting the amount of feathers looks like a massacre has taken place. But you get a sense of satisfaction when you see them done. Just over half way down the North Wall.

22.01.2022 Hubby locked an extra grower into the grower shed last night. Poor little Dude. He has been hanging around the grower pen at night getting a free feed. Most likely recently weaned and needing a bit of a hand to make it on his own.

19.01.2022 Gold laced frizzle polish. The lacing on this little girl's crest is lovely. Her beard is about to lace as well. Her mum and dad are penned together again for the upcoming breeding season.

17.01.2022 Oh Jeff Jeff is a buff lace cockerel who is a bit special. He would like to be a house chook and runs into the house when you open the door. He hangs out on the back patio and peers into windows to see what you are doing. He believes the feed shed is his personal buffet and prefers to self serve out of the feed bags.

14.01.2022 Talon & The Dragon (as told by Talon) I was having a lovely day free ranging with my brothers and sisters and some cousins. The sun was shining and the grass was sweet. Suddenly I heard Rebel start screaming. Run and find cover he shouted. I ran for my life but then a dark shadow came over me. I looked up and there was a Dragon. The next I knew I was knocked to the ground. Claws of steel wrapped around my chest and I was lifted into the sky. I decided to fight back from my ca...ptor. Peck Peck I went into the feet of that mighty Dragon. He dropped me. I immediately took cover and then I heard Dad calling me. I ran over to him and he picked me up and cuddled me and took me home to Mum. Mum gave me medicine and made me all better. The End. Talon and the Eagle (as told by Mike). I heard the roosters screaming and guineas sounding alarm. I arrived just in time to see an Eagle fly off with a pullet. I chased after it across the paddock and down the road. A murder of crows arrived and started harassing it. The Eagle dropped the pullet and she fell to the ground. I decided that Eagle was not getting its meal and went to retrieve the body. I saw the pullet run into the long grass and realized she was still alive. I ran over and called her. She came running out of the grass and stopped at my feet. I picked her up and she snuggled into me. I took her home thinking she would die. She had wounds into her chest on both sides and was having difficulty breathing. Kendall treated her for shock and gave her antibiotics and she survived. I called her Talon.

13.01.2022 Rebel Our free ranging King of the barnyard has always preferred to sleep in a tree rather than his shelter unless it was raining. Mike found him hanging upside down with his foot caught in a branch a few weeks ago. Lucky no fractures and with some medication and enforced rest with Mrs Reb he is out and about again. But no more sleeping in the tree. After 5 years of trying to get him to use it he is sleeping on his perch every night.

10.01.2022 Polish pullets These are the pullets that I have selected to keep so far.

09.01.2022 A stirling effort from one of my olive egger pullets. She only started laying last week. Double yolk for Gracie's breakfast.

07.01.2022 Cuckoo Faverolles A couple of my young ones from last season. My favorite cockerel and pullet. There is still a bit of work to do on them.

06.01.2022 The Three Amigos After a few Eagle attacks on my growers lately, these three free range faverolles have worked out a safety routine for dust bathing.

01.01.2022 Magnolia almost finished moulting and ready soon for the show season.

01.01.2022 With our show season cancelled our thoughts now turn to the breeding season. Introducing Bentley our new lead white crested black polish boy.
