25.01.2022 Hey amazing people. Long time no post hey? Just letting you know that our friends and local lime farmers Linda and Daniel Tabone (Suncoast Limes) have launched a crowd funding campaign to get their awesome new Scurvy Dog chilli lime soda out to the world. It's really a great product and we're so proud of them. If you have a few bucks to support a local product, there are 22 days left to pledge, and there's a whole treasure chest of great rewards. Keep smiling, Kym B-J https://pozible.com/project/scurvy-dog-lime-chilli-soda-1

20.01.2022 Always intrigued by the bad publicity the NBN receives in the cities; not fast enough; not available. But a lot of people don't know that 'wireless' NBN is available in a lot of regional Queensland and the speed is the same as most people in the cities are getting. They achieve it by taking the NBN to a tower, then broadcasting it to the users. The speed test tells you the speed, (the same as suburban Brisbane) and during a month long test we received 50mb/sec. I can understa...nd that many families who would yearn for a 'tree change' hang back because their children wouldn't be able to live without a high speed service. It must certainly discourage many people from taking the plunge, so look at their coverage maps and you might be surprised. We go back a long way with computers, our first having no storage at all and we recorded our stock takes on cassette tapes; some years later the Apple Liza was the best available, and it used floppies. Bought our first hard drive, 5 megabytes (that's right, megabytes) for $6,000 then a second, 10 megabytes for $4,000. How times have changed. Don't forget to look at our website, then pass it on to your friends: - www.yourownwagyu.com

18.01.2022 Tractor thoughts! While thousands of people are fighting the traffic and getting angry, tractor driving is a dream. No one tailgating or switching lanes; no speed cameras; no other tractors in sight; and as its control in air conditioned comfort becomes automatic you have plenty of time to observe and think. There are plenty of animals to observe from cows to hares to birds and kangaroos. We have a family of 10 kangaroos living on the farm which have been breeding here for y...ears and have no fear of humans. Occasionally they will move from one paddock to another and did you know they don't jump over the barbed wire fences; they crawl under the bottom wire; even the 6 foot bucks and the does with joeys in their pouches. Correction; in the last 11 years I have seen only one go over a fence. But excessive age forces us to retire; please view our website and pass it on to your friends. www.yourownwagyu.com See more

15.01.2022 Tractor thoughts. Looking after 160 acres of pasture is a constant commitment to keep any weeds down to let the pasture grasses and clover thrive, so that means regular slashing of the paddocks. Driving around in an air conditioned tractor is probably better than fighting city traffic but it does have its problems and amusements. Very often the cattle will be in a playful mood and will cartwheel and buckjump in front of the tractor and the bull will always hold his ground; pr...obably sees the tractor as competition. Sadly though, slashing has a down side. Lots of birds and small animals nest in the longer grasses and sometimes they will be sitting on eggs or have young ones, so their homes are destroyed unless you watch and lift the slasher up when you see them escape in panic. Quail get away but plovers actually stand up to the tractor and spread their wing and threaten you. Saddest act I have encountered was the day two very large Eagles were sitting high in a tree swooping down of the panicked animals. Stopped the tractor until they lost interest; my good deed for that day. Check out our website at -yourownwagyu.com See more

13.01.2022 Bonnie Beef is on hold; at least until cattle prices settle down. It was pretty hard to compete with the export prices when the drought limited supplies and our own cattle had a hard time. Sad really, but we proved that cattle can be treated well and still attract discerning buyers. So the time has come for Surrey Springs to change hands. With a combined age of 161 years, Bev and Gordon are going to retire at last; it's a big job for an old couple and much as we will miss the... animals, we must move on. Kym and Geoff have their own place at Imbil in the Mary River Valley and will no doubt be working on their own venture in due course. So to share our experiences on a daily basis, and those we have enjoyed for the past 11 years I will be writing daily and posting photos of all our animal friends, prompted by this excellent ABC program. http://www.abc.net.au//tree-changers-swap-city-lif/8188910. Possibly the longest story I have seen them produce and of interest to anyone who is fed up with the traffic and congestion in the cities (photo below is from this story, not Surrey Springs). Tell your friends and stay tuned. See more

12.01.2022 Here's the details of "Date-a-Designer" Steve Campbell. If you have any ideas for improving, renovating or creating your new home or building project, this is a great opportunity to have a chat about them without committing any more than half an hour of your time and perhaps a drive to the Sunny Coast. Steve's number is at the bottom of this post, so give him a call to book in. Sessions will be either at Steve's office in Noosaville, or a coffee shop near there. You can also get a message to Steve through me as well if you'd like to. What a great opportunity! Keep smiling, Kym B-J

10.01.2022 For anyone who'd like a special, sustainable home designed, or maybe an addition or renovation. Steve is a local building designer based on the Sunshine Coast and happily accepts projects from all over south east Q. Check out his other amazing projects at http://stevecampbelldesign.com.au. I'm now working for Steve one day a week while I complete my Diploma of building design, so I could be helping design your dream home with him. Steve is also going to start "Date-a-Designer" sessions beginning next month, but I'll send those details out separately. Keep smiling and I hope you are all doing well, Kym B-J

08.01.2022 Steve still has a few spots left if you're thinking about a building, renovating or extension project. If another date is better, ask for a spot on Monday 5 June.

01.01.2022 Nearly all cattle farmers remove the horns from their calves. This is a cruel procedure which involves scooping out the small horns; burning them out to prevent their growing or cropping the horns of adult cattle. The fact that they lose some value at the sales because they have horns convinces me that this dehorning is for the benefit of the handlers so they won't get hurt. We stopped doing this many years ago basicly for humane reasons, and we have never had a serious incid...ent involving horns. But we have recently become aware of a very important side issue. You see, cattle have horns as a defence mechanism, and they know how to use them. Most of the farmers around us have trouble with dingoes which live in the State forests, and they lose young calves to these cowardly creatures which hunt in packs. We haven't had a dingo killing in many years and a couple that have been injured have survived. This is only possible because the mothers and the bull attack the dingoes with their horns, so the dogs give us a wide berth. We have inherited a 12 month old steer belonging to a neighbour which can only use three legs after surviving a dingo attack when very young. He will just become another pet like 'Lamington'. If you know someone who might like to get out of the city and experience farm life, would you pass on the website we have prepared. www.yourownwagyu.com See more
