20.01.2022 Well it's Spring here on the Gold Coast and it's as dry as I've seen it in my 35 years here and the bush surrounding the gardens is dry, brown and crispy. The garden on the other hand is still lush, green and productive just check out the cabbage, kale, lettuce, boc choy, tatsoi, mizuna, beans, silver beet, asparagus, herbs of all kinds and of coarse the strawberries. All this food, including 3 fish a week is being grown with just 65 litres of water a day.
20.01.2022 Lovely visit to poppy's house yesturday Collecting some amazing vegetables Learnt about native bees & bugs Kids gathered 8 eggs from the chicken coop ...Adventures in nature, so much fun! And the snake No reception watching the kids grown and learn
16.01.2022 Some of the flowers of Autumn in the Aquaponics and wicking beds Society Garlic. Garlic can be tricky in a tropical climate, so for that garlic flavour Society Garlic grows well all year. Kang Kong. A great summer green high in Dietary Fibre, Calcium, vitamin A and C, that dies down after flowering. Ginger Flowers before dying off. Garlic Chives. For that garlic flavour without the odour.... Vietnamese Mint. Used in many Asian dishes for a coriander like flavour. Blue Berries. Yummy and full of antioxidants. Cucumber. Very late, self sown. I may get some cucumbers before it gets too cold. Pineapple. Sweet and delicious See more
15.01.2022 If this isn't enough to make you want to grow your own, nothing will.
12.01.2022 So much more fun than watching a screen.
12.01.2022 A well designed system will produce an abundance of vegetables and fish with no more than a couple of hours a week needed. I have been run off my feet lately and have spent less than 1 hour in the garden in the last 2 weeks but as todays pictures show there is still such an abundance of veg there's even enough to keep the chooks happy.
05.01.2022 Another successful Aquaponic setup.
04.01.2022 Plant the seeds
03.01.2022 Before I left for 12 days in W.A. I put in a lot of seeds and seedlings. With just one water they will normally thrive in the wicking beds. And thrive they did until grazed on by some kind of rodent. I will set up a camera to find out what it is, then deal with it. Meanwhile I'll get some more seeds in while the weather is cool. Some sunset photos from my first visit the Bunbury and some of the carnage in the wicking beds.
03.01.2022 Some great work to help our native species
02.01.2022 It's important to give your fish some variety in their diet. Worms are easily grown and the fish just love them. Even if you don't have fish you should have at least one worm farm to recycle your table scraps. Duck weed is another easy treat for the fish, just put it in some nutrient rich water, give it some sunlight and it will double itself every day.
