24.01.2022 The bees have been buzzing around the Macadamia Tetraphylla trees that are currently in full bloom. The tree is listed as vulnerable in Qld and we are lucky to have a few of these on site. You can help us plant trees and also learn more about these by joining us on Saturday October 3 8am-10am. Spaces are limited. Register with us here #beachestobushland #NaturallyGC #bushcare... https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/105748229802

23.01.2022 We are still on this morning for our last bushcare of the year. Come and join us for some tree planting, the conditions are perfect for our new trees

23.01.2022 This Saturday 1st February from 8am-10am meeting at the Gardenia Dr end of the Davenport Park. (To get there, drive along Bonogin Rd past the shop, then next left at Gardenia Drive and follow to the end of the street. It is a very long street but the park is at the end). Hi Bonogin Valley Bushcarers, Seasons greetings and can you believe its the first week in February already! All has survived and thrived in the dry over Christmas due to the fantastic support works set up b...y Saraya. The plants are racing along now with the heat and moisture, and there were very few losses after the last planting which is quite a feat considering how dry things were getting. Hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you there, Kathy (Volunteer Coordinator Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group)

23.01.2022 A great bushcare session. 140 trees in the ground and a little but of rain about to help them along.

22.01.2022 Hello Bonogin Valley Bushcarers, were off to a great start this year with an informative bush tucker workshop planned for the first Saturday back. While the weather can still be so warm and to ease us back into the New Year, we have been given an opportunity to learn more about our local native vegetation and how bush tucker plants can affect the wider ecosystem as a food source. Here is the link to more information and bookings as we each need to register for this one:... https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/bushtucker-workshop-with-bo Generally at the park, the recent weather has encouraged plenty of growth of both native plants and weeds - some areas are beginning to achieve the shade required for the natural maintenance we are aiming for, while other areas may seem a little fluffy with weeds at this time of year as we try to keep them in check. Looking forward to assisting the process and seeing what a difference we can make this year! Remember to bring a hat, drinking water and a friend who may be interested! Therell also be morning tea afterwards in the park under the shelter. Kathy Banks (Volunteer Coordinator Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group)

18.01.2022 This Saturday 4th November from 8am-10am at Davenport Park. (Cnr Parkmeadows Ct & Valleyview Ct, Bonogin, QLD 4213) Hi Bonogin Valley Bushcarers,... Hard to believe but its our last session before the summer break already! and this month there is a great morning planned. To help the endangered Richmond Birdwing Butterfly to survive, we will be planting its host plant, the vine Pararistolochia praevenosa along the creek line, as well as a number of other plants. The butterfly is local to the area and quite spectacular with a wingspan of up to 16 cm. Here is a link to the Dept of Environment and Heritage Protection website if you want to find out more: https://www.ehp.qld.gov.au//richmond_birdwing_butterfly.ht The weather is great and there will be plenty of shade among the trees, so hope to see you there. Remember to bring a hat and drinking water and there will be morning tea afterwards in the park under the shelter. Kathy Banks (Volunteer Coordinator Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group)

18.01.2022 We are back this Saturday 2nd of February for bushcare! We will be planting trees along the creek in the shade at the Gardenia Street entrance from 8am-10am. 17.01.2022 This Saturday 7th October from 8am-10am at Davenport Park. (Cnr Parkmeadows Ct & Valleyview Ct, Bonogin, QLD 4213) Hi Bonogin Valley Bushcarers ... Due to the previous very dry conditions, this month well be back at the Gardenia Drive site to continue to uncover the existing seed bank and prepare for planting to assist the natural regeneration process along the creek. It has been very encouraging to find the remnant rainforest and threatened species trees we have uncovered so far, and now given the chance they should thrive. Its a lovely shady area to be working in and there will be morning tea afterwards in the park under the shelter. You can choose to park in the usual Davenport Park carpark, and then walk over to the weeding site, or park at the end of Gardenia Drive. Long pants and long sleeves would be best, and as usual a hat and drinking water. Look forward to seeing you there, Kathy Banks (Volunteer Coordinator Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group)

16.01.2022 Hello Bonogin Valley Bushcarers, the following notice concerns our monthly meetup. "Unfortunately due to Commonwealth Games bushcare activities that fall within the Commonwealth Games period of April 4-15th will not be running as per usual. Unfortunately Bonogin Valley Bushcare falls within this time. So we will see all interested parties at our May meet up, Saturday 5th May. ... Till then, Happy Easter, enjoy the Commonwealth Games and take advantage of this lovely rain in our gardens.

16.01.2022 Another great effort in planting hundreds of endemic seedlings. This time at the top end of the park, near the end of Gardenia Dr. It was easy work though, thanks to holes being dug, soil very wet and lots of helpers. Adding a link to the Australian native plant forum for interest.

15.01.2022 Our last bushcare day for the year is this Saturday from 8am at the end of Gardenia Street. Join us for a fun morning planting trees in the shade. Its easy work with the holes pre-dug and a water truck coming along.

15.01.2022 Hi Bonogin Valley Bushcarers, Another great planting last month - we reached our target and planted all supplied! It was great to see the rain this week and the plants have all stood up to the dry conditions very well. ... Spring is arriving already and theres plenty of activity everywhere you look along the creek with many different species being spotteda few even joining us for morning tea last month sitting on the back of Nicks ute. This month we have decided to lend a hand and join forces with Hinterland Regional Park and the Somerset School Sustainability Group. They have a special community tree planting day organised for the long weekend. It will be a great opportunity to meet other members at Hinterland Regional Park and see what else is happening locally. Here are the details below for Hinterland Regional Park for this Saturday: 8am-10am Hinterland Regional Park Hardys Road, Mudgeeraba The planting is on the left hand side as you drive in with parking nearby. A Council car will identify the planting area. We encourage people to register for the event so we can notify if cancelled due to wet weather etc: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/mudgeeraba-community-planti Further details Join the Hinterland Regional Park Bushcare Group and the Somerset School Sustainability Group for a community tree planting day this Saturday September 1 at Hinterland Regional Park Mudgeeraba from 8am-10am. The 72 hectare Hinterland Regional Park has been transformed into a recreational space that provides habitat for over 158 bird species and a range of other native animals, including the endangered Richmond birdwing butterfly. This community tree planting event provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to learn about regeneration of our natural areas and to contribute to the ongoing restoration of the park. Suitable for all ages with further details provided upon registration https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/mudgeeraba-community-planti https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/mudgeeraba-community-planti It would be best to go straight to Hinterland Regional Park to meet, but there will be someone at Davenport Park to meet any who may not get this email. Hope to see you there, Kathy (Volunteer Coordinator Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group)

12.01.2022 Hi Bonogin Valley Bushcarers, Believe it or not, its our last one for the year! This month were going back to the Gardenia St end of the park. It looks amazing down there and all the recent rain has given everything a real kick start. We have about 300 trees to plant and conditions should be perfect so really hope to see you there. Drive to the end of Gardenia St (first left after the shop off Bonogin Rd) and park there as it is much easier to get to the site, and well have... morning tea over there as well (someone will be at the Davenport Park carpark to let people know if they dont get this email). Its getting warmer so please remember to bring a hat and water. See you Saturday! Kathy (Volunteer Coordinator Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group) See more

This Saturday we are going to plant another lot of Birdwing Butterfly Vines along the creek near the BBQ shelter until 9am so well meet in the carpark as usual.... Then at 9am-11am NaturallyGC are putting on a Fauna Forensics session (which just happens to be on the same day) and we are all invited to join in - its all about identifying native animals through tracks, scats and traces which is pretty handy to know. Therell be morning tea as usual and dont forget your hat! Kathy (Volunteer Coordinator Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group)

10.01.2022 This Saturday 7th July from 8am-10am at Davenport Park. (Cnr Parkmeadows Ct & Valleyview Ct, Bonogin, QLD 4213) Hi Bonogin Valley Bushcarers,... Great job planting last month with another 200 plants into the ground along the park buffer zone. That completes this section, so this month we are heading back to the Gardenia St end of the park where we have previously been weeding to prepare for planting. There is a big planting scheduled and we are hoping to get about 400 plants in. The holes have also been prepared so there is no digging, and with many hands we should be able to get them all in. You can drive to the end of Gardenia Drive and park there, as it is much closer to where we will be working. If you dont know where that is, then just meet as usual at Davenport Park and someone will be there to meet up and show the way to walk to the site. Please wear protective gear as usual (hat, footwear etc). We will be having morning tea over that side as well so if you like, bring a fold up chair to sit on (although there will be extra chairs). See you there, Kathy (Volunteer Coordinator Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group)

09.01.2022 A message from Kathy, our co-ordinator about this Saturdays bushcare day. Hope to see you there. This Saturday 2nd September from 8am-10am at Davenport Park. (Cnr Parkmeadows Ct & Valleyview Ct, Bonogin, QLD 4213)... Hi Bonogin Valley Bushcarers, Great effort and a lovely winters day last month - thanks to Nick for leading the way last week filling in for Michael, and Lauretta for some more great treats at morning tea! We made such good progress last month that we will continue with another restoration morning with Nick past the boardwalk on the Gardenia Drive side. This will assist the existing seedbank to thrive and we may be able to uncover some more threatened species. For anyone wanting to tackle lantana on their own property, here is a link to a comprehensive GCCC fact sheet: http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au//weed-profile-lantana-pdf- Well meet up at the usual area in the Davenport Park carpark, and then walk over to the weeding site (but for those who would like a shorter walk, you could park at the end of Gardenia Drive). Long pants and long sleeves would be best, and as usual a hat and drinking water. The beginning of Spring should be a great day so hope to see you there and there will be morning tea afterwards in the park under the shelter. Kathy Banks (Volunteer Coordinator Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group)

Hi Bonogin Valley Bushcarers, Great to be back and all planted in record time last month thanks to all who turned out! The rain last week was very welcome and it looks as though a bit of frost may have got to the new plants in the cold snap, but they look as though they should recover ok. There are also some unmistakable signes of spring with bright new growth appearing already. We are going to be working back over in the main park again to expand on the area we planted last month, so please meet up there after parking in the main Davenport Park carpark. 06.01.2022 Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group THIS SATURDAY 7th SEPTEMBER, meeting at the Gardenia Dr end of the Davenport Park. (To get there, drive along Bonogin Rd past the shop, then next left at Gardenia Drive and follow to the end of the street. It is a very long street but the park is at the end). Hi Bonogin Valley Bushcarers,... Happy Spring to all! Last months planting is holding up well despite the conditions and some of the previous plantings are showing bright new spring growth. The remaining Tobacco plants are providing some dappled shade and good perching for birds. There has been quite a bit of grazing damage to some of the plants in this area which is unusual for us, but most are surviving and will hopefully bounce back when there is some good rain. This month we are planting Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Vines throughout this area. They will do very well being planted in this hot dry spell povided they are watered in deeply at the time of planting. It will increase the diversity of this area so well make the most of it as they are not always available. Even though its a lovely shady area, please wear your hat, covered shoes and usual working gear and bring some water to drink. There will be morning tea as always so hope to see you there, Kathy (Volunteer Coordinator Bonogin Valley Bushcare Group)
