25.01.2022 Last year we demonstrated at Taree, The Central Coast, and Nepean Bonsai Societies as well as here at Bonsai World creating Taxodium distichum (Swamp Cypress) forests. (Also demonstrated at BSA but Michael convinced me to part with one) We have combined all of these individual settings into the one giant suiban. It is 4.8m x 1.6m x 350mm deep..It is nowhere near completion but thought I would share some progress shots. We have about 15 additional trees to prepare in the next couple of days...Then we will post again the end result.

24.01.2022 Decided to have some fun today and attack some of the Swamp Cypress that we potted in 12" - 300mm plastic grow pots about 3 years ago. Slowly digging down over 200mm to reveal some nice major roots, shortening the overall height, wiring every branch and putting in a beautiful dragon pot. Quite happy with the end result.

24.01.2022 Merry Christmas to everyone from the staff of Bonsai World. Tomorrow (Sunday the 29th) is our end of year Workshop. Just like previous years we will hold the Free Workshop from 10am to 12:30pm and then followed by our Free BBQ (everyone welcome). At Bonsai World we received our Xmas presents,,,,,,they arrived in a 40 foot shipping container. We haven't had time to unpack yet but we will have a few out for sale as of tomorrow.

23.01.2022 The Canberra Bonsai Society Annual show is on in a few weeks time....Plenty of quality display trees and lots of stalls selling everything bonsai......more details soon!!!

23.01.2022 If you are anywhere near Canberra this Sunday...pop in to see the Canberra Bonsai Societies annual show...this is just one of the quality trees

22.01.2022 Myself and David were invited to the monthly Central Coast Bonsai Society meeting on Tuesday night to perform a Saikei demonstration. In a little over an hour this is the result. The Saikei setting using a 90cm tray (just arrived in the last container), two pieces of volcanic rock, some Juniper starters, clay and moss.

21.01.2022 Bonsai World now owns a lovely new truck to do our deliveries in but more importantly today it was used to collect a few more trees that will be a very welcome addition to the display area. It is going to be a big days work getting them out and ready for show but should be stunning display once done!!

21.01.2022 A quick video of the demo tree from Newcastle Bonsai Societies annual show last November.

16.01.2022 Bonsai World would like to thank the Newcastle Bonsai Society and all its members for putting on a great event over the last 3 days. Will keep everyone posted on how the tree responds to its little haircut. Added*** Now only 2 weeks on the tree is backshooting along full trunk line and every branch has at least 50 new buds about to bust into new growth.

16.01.2022 One very long day unloading a 40 foot container. Almost every pot was big and some are very big. Pots now available up to 2.1 metres in length. Check out some of these pics....We will get some more pictures up once unpacked.

16.01.2022 Repotted my Angophora floribunda into its first bonsai pot. I've been growing the trunk for 15yrs from nursery stock. It was let go to thicken then chopped back to the desired height for taper. The main branching has been developed the past 2yrs. In the future the pot size will be reduced. We have really good Angophora costata starters in 250mm pots for $50 if you'd like to start your own- David.

15.01.2022 Tomorrow's Workshop has been cancelled but we will still be open. Check out all this lovely room ....thousands of square metres all to yourself. Grab a project for all those hours of upcoming social distancing.

15.01.2022 The Australia day Demo-Workshop was a success. We had up to 50 people participate over the day. I hope everyone enjoyed the day. Instead of working on the Black Pine from the previous post, we decided to work on a different tree. The tree was a Japanese Black Pine we had growing in the ground since 2007. In spring of 2015 we dug it up and set out trying to get it to back bud. By 2017 we had enough foliage to perform its very first styling/ wiring. The last couple of years we ...left it alone...allowing it to thicken up and gain some health. This weekend was another first for the tree. We performed its very first needle pluck- candle prune. Hopefully over the next few weeks we will have many hundreds of new branches.... This tree still has a few years to go before I will be happy with its quality but its one hell of a starter!!! Will post updates over the next months weeks to show its development. We will not be having the usual Free Workshop on the last Sunday of February. It will be held Sunday 1st of March.

14.01.2022 We recieved a 20 foot container today and are hoping another 40 foot container arrives before the end of the week. Here are a few pictures from today's new stock.

14.01.2022 Bonsai World has a few events coming up on the calendar. Friday 21st, Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of February 2020 we have the annual Hastings Bonsai Group show (Port Macquarie). There is so much on offer.....you cannot go home empty handed.

11.01.2022 Hastings Bonsai Group show is up and running until Sunday afternoon. If you're around the Port Macquarie area drop in and see some quality trees. We are here with plenty of stock as well.

10.01.2022 Bonsai World will be there with a trailer load of trees, starters, pots wire etc....

09.01.2022 Not too many customers are making their way to Bonsai World today..

09.01.2022 Tomorrow (Sunday 26th of January) we will be celebrating Australia Day by having a Japanese Black Pine demonstration and Workshop. Demonstration will start a little after 10am then after it's your turn to work on your Black Pine or other species. The day is totally free of charge. Every one welcome. If your pine is ready for a needle pluck and candle prune bring it along...Pictured is a tree that is definitely ready for some work tomorrow!!!!... Free tea, coffee, soft drink and refreshments during the day.

08.01.2022 Three years ago Bonsai World headed north to The Hastings Bonsai Group (Port Macquarie) and held a demonstration on one of our Nishiki Black Pines. In this demo we selected a design and "set the bones" of the tree. During the last three years all we have done was allow it to grow, thicken up, and importantly with a Nishiki, bark up. The tree has probably doubled in volume. An interesting thing has occurred in these three years. The back of the tree has developed far more th...an the front (maybe because of the size and quantities of rear branches) and the more I look at it the more I prefer the the viewing angle from the back of the tree. So this week we switched the front, removed a portion of what was the rear branch, tilted the tree forward about 45 degrees and to the right 25 degrees and slip potted it to a much larger pot to handle angle change and allow another few years of vigorous growth. Hang in there and we will give another update in 2025 !!!

08.01.2022 Yesterday I styled another Swampy among other things.. Today the weather looks clearer so we will have a crack at some of the deciduous re-potting. If you are in Australia you are running out of time. Our Chinese Elms, Japanese maples and the Taxodium are all opening up early. Plenty of potting mix, Akadama and bonsai pot for sale.

07.01.2022 Our container of Akadama has arrived from Japan. We have 3 sizes in stock...2-4mm, 2-6mm and 6-12mm. We now have it on the shelves at $29 per bag.....Less for bulk.

05.01.2022 A fair few of these 4 foot tall cascade pots arrived a few weeks ago. We decided to pot up our J.squamata cascade into one of these monsters allowing the tree to cascade an additional foot or two. Looking forward to how much growth we achieve in the next year or two!!!

04.01.2022 Our 2nd Container in just three days arrived this morning. This stuff will be unpacked and on the shelves by Tuesday.

03.01.2022 Happy 21st month to this sinuous raft Privet setting. The first picture shows when it was lifted from the gravel out the bonsai display area July 2018. I didn't have a pot large enough so I used an old metal door. The second picture show the addition of deadwood. The third picture is October 2018 and you can see how much growth it put on in 4months. Picture 4 was taken in May 2019 and the final picture was yesterday, 21months after first laying it out on a door. The next step is further ramification and acquiring a 2m by 1.2m Suiban to house it-David.
