06.01.2022 YES ,BONSAI ART NURSERY IS STILL OPEN. However we do take the Corona virus & everyones safety very seriously!!! It is a condition of entry that all customers maintain the minimum safe distance of 1.5metres from all other people. Most of the time , there is only one or two customers in the nursery , it does not get crowded like the supermarket. There is plenty of space & its a very easy place to keep a safe distance. Some people come just to enjoy the atmosphere of a place fu...ll of trees & thats quite ok with us. We want to stay open & keep suppling bonsai & related products to Melbournians for as long as we can . This will only be possible if everyone takes the situation seriously and follows the guidelines. At the counter we have a Sml pump bottle with hospital grade disinfectant containing 70 % methylated spirit , Ethanol & Methanol for customers to disinfect their hands before & or after handling goods. There are also Alcohol wipes available at the counter. In the nursery area there are signs to remind customers to maintain a safe distance as well as a tap to wash hands with a supplied disinfectant soap. We welcome all customers New & Old. Please Note the following There are now new trading hours for weekends Saturday 10.am to 3.pm Sunday 10.am to 3.pm Also during the restrictions we will reduce our weekday trading hours to 10.am to 4.pm Monday , Tuesday , Thursday & Friday . 06.01.2022 Satsuki Flowering season has arrived & the nursery is a riot of color . A few warm days at the end of Winter has seen our Satsuki come into bloom a few weeks earlier than normal . Bonsai Art Nursery currently has 45 varieties of Satsuki available . The following pictures have all been taken in the last few days at the nursery and give some idea of what is available. Understanding the huge range of flower colors , shapes & patterns is a daunting task .For simplicity we have di...vided the flowering types of Satsuki into 2 main groups. The Solids - which are flowers of a single color or of a pattern that does not vary eg. Chinzan , Osakazuki Rukizon , Shugetsu The Variables - Can have flowers of different colors & different patterns on a single plant. Can continue to change as tree ages. eg. Asazakura , Kaguyahime , Shinkyo , Komei . Unfortunately The Victorian Satsuki Interest Group will not be holding its exhibition this year, they will have a year off & it will be back on in 2019. Bonsai Art Nursery will however display its Stock Trees throughout November & early December for everyone to come, see & enjoy these amazing flowering trees! See more

03.01.2022 Satsuki are a species not often used for group plantings here in Australia but I think they make a great subject for it. I have used some artistic licence in creating this Osakazuki Group planting as though they are trees in a forest . Satsuki would not grow like this in their natural environment , they would be more of a clump style. The following photos were taken over a 5 day period as the group reached full bloom. This group is now about 7 years old. Whilst in bloom I display it indoors for a few weeks and enjoy the hundreds of flowers.
