25.01.2022 Best thing about Xmas holidays is I get the chance to smash some reading in - I’ve been wanting to read Holden Shepard’s much-lauded book all year - and today I’ve flopped about in my p.j’s, eating cheese and devouring this stellar book ( whilst also trying to keep a Border Collie pup amused with toys). The writing is gritty and brilliant - and the characters are so multi-dimensional and fragile and beautifully real. There’s echoes of Andrew McGahan’s Praise in this work ( it has a distinctive grunge feel to it) Highly recommend that you get yourself a copy and support Australian writers - the breadth and depth of writing talent in Australia is phenomenal. ( I also really want to hang out in Geraldton after reading this). Started last night and I cannot put the book down - only 100 pages to go.
25.01.2022 The Frog Prince book bag... it’s just bursting at the seams with fairytale magic! Remember the princess, the pond and the golden ball? And the frog that fetches it, in exchange for her friendship? This classic fairytale was first published by the Grimm Brothers in 1812 and was also called ‘Iron Henry’. Traditionally, it featured as the first fairytale in their collection. Apparently the Grimm brothers regarded this fairytale as one of their favourites - the ‘oldest and most b...eautiful in German-speaking regions’. There’s lots of variations of this fairytale - in the original Grimm version the Frog turns into a Prince when the Princess kisses him - but in other versions the Frog is transformed when he sleeps on her pillow or she throws him against the wall . ( yikes!) What’s your favourite fairytale? I’m a sucker for Rapunzel and the Princess and the Pea. ( there’s too many to choose from).
24.01.2022 Stephen King Rose Madder clutch. Book cover matched with a vintage gold clutch.
24.01.2022 Instilling a bit of horror into your Monday. But avoid the drainpipes and anything or anyone resembling a clown.
23.01.2022 #wip Having a nice play today. Sculpture is a work in progress - collaged images and text from Alice in Wonderland. Still more tonal stuff and shading to do, but you get the idea. Lots of symbolism with this - with ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’ placed on the top of her brajn. Hope you’re having a chilled weekend.
22.01.2022 Alice in Wonderland collage sculpture. I’m not sure if it’s finished? It gets quite obsessive, putting the final touches on and wanting to walk away from it, but then fiddling with it again and getting your fingers webbed with glue.
19.01.2022 Happy Monday everyone. More Harry Potter book clutches in store today.
18.01.2022 Yayyy!!! My short story ‘How to Kondo’ has been shortlisted for the KSP Short Fiction Award in Western Australia. The award is run by the KSP writers centre ( Katherine Susannah Pritchard). The prize ceremony is in a couple of weeks and you can get free tickets to the online ceremony via Eventbrite/KSP website - and see me read an excerpt from my story. I was super stoked to get this news - it has been one of the highlights of a very tumultuous year!!!!!
18.01.2022 I don’t often post personal stuff on FB or Insta because I feel a bit vulnerable but this post seems very important for me to write. My stepbrother, Matt Bowman died suddenly two weeks and 1 day ago, leaving a massive hole in our family’s collective heart. Matt was only 41, loved Star Wars, his wife Pippa and their 6 year old son. We always lived a state apart, thousands of km’s away and didn’t see each other enough - but we had a shared history and lots of funny, crazy memor...ies - Matt always had a dark, Pythonesque sense of humour and a bigger-than-life-laugh. He loved the Australian cricket team and always had a joke ready - he was always trying to make everyone laugh. He was quirky too. His death has come as an enormous shock ( it’s been a roller coaster the last two months, a mixture of good news and bad) to me and my Mum and stepfather. May the force be with you, Matt. I couldn’t say goodbye to you yesterday because the funeral was interstate/QLD - but if there’s one thing I can do - it’s to hold an imaginary light saber to the heavens and wish you well and much peace on your next journey. Note: 1st image is me on the left and Matt on the far right, wearing his Star Wars tie. My sister Nicky is beside me, and it’s my Mum and stepfather’s wedding at Mt Coot-tha, Brisbane late 90’s. 2nd image is Matt catching the wedding bouquet that my Mum threw, everyone in rapture and hysterics. 3rd image is a dessicated leaf I found under the lemon tree the day after Matt died - it reminded me of the fragility of life and that, even in grief there is beauty around us, we just have to really look.
18.01.2022 Yep. Happy Wednesday!

13.01.2022 Still working slowly away on this one, but it’s coming together. It’s a very garden-themed Alice, with birds on her forehead and lips, flowers and of course, the White Rabbit.
10.01.2022 Vet Barbie book purse. Making this brought back memories of playing Barbie’s with my sister as a kid. We had a handful of Barbie’s, but Cowgirl Barbie eclipsed them all because you could push a button on her back and she’d wink at you. We also used to mix and match heads and bodies - hours of ridiculous fun. 07.01.2022 The struggle is real. Now he’s big enough this guy loves to jump up onto the benches and snatch the odd sandwich, avocado or whatever he can wrap his mouth around. At least his tastes have evolved and he’s not still devouring blue bottles at the beach. Progress. PS Off to dog training soon - hoping I can teach him to brew me barista-style coffee ( complete with arty swirls) and cook me dinner each night. Stay tuned for that.
