25.01.2022 Tom Tom is a book I share with every grade I teach because it provides a window into a way of life thats very different to the life my K-6 students live in Sydney. Its intended for younger children but even my Year 5 and 6 students enjoy it. This simple story follows Tom Tom, who lives in a remote community in the Northern Territory, as he shares his life with his extended family, friends and pre-school teacher. The straightforward text and vivid illustrations perfectly c...apture his rich, full life and offer plenty of scope for discussion with children of all ages. This is such a gorgeous book and well worth getting hold of if youre keen to help your kiddos understand something of the diverse ways Indigenous people live in Australia. . . . @harpercollinskidsau @harpercollinsaustralia #indigenousperspectives #teachingindigenousperspectives

24.01.2022 This is so important. Thank you Seed and Sew.

23.01.2022 Another one from our walk today. The climb to the top is challenging but its so worth it.

22.01.2022 I love Teacher Tom. Have you had a moment like this with your little one?

22.01.2022 Sorry Day is a book I share in the classroom and another one which really resonates with all age groups, from my Kindy kiddos to the Year 6 crew. The book tells two separate but connected stories, with each one unfolding on alternate double-page spreads. Theres the story of Maggie whos waiting with her mum and with thousands of others to hear the Prime Minister say sorry to the First Nations people for stealing their children. And then theres the story of how the child...ren were taken away, how they hid and the pain of their families. This book is a wonderful and very powerful way of helping children understand what happened, the grief of the children, their families and their communities and the power and importance of acknowledgement and saying sorry. #sorryday #NRW2020 #InThisTogether2020 #sorryday2020 #reconciliationweek #reconciliationweek2020 #australianteachers #australianteachersofinstagram #australianpicturebooks #coralvass #dubleffler

21.01.2022 Most children are familiar with the Acknowledgement of Country they hear at school but do they understand what it means? When I ask this in the classroom I find that most children have no idea what the words theyve heard so often actually mean nor why we say them. If youre keen to help your kiddos understand why the Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country matter and what they mean, this might be the book for you. Aunty Joy Murphy is a Wurundjeri elder and here s...he invites us to recognise the traditional lands which lie beneath our feet and to celebrate the culture of the people who belong to it. With glorious illustrations and lyrical text, Welcome to Country is both powerful and visually stunning. . . . . #teachingindigenousperspectives #indigenousperspectives @walkerbooksaus

18.01.2022 Im more of a dog person than a cat person, however, this is pretty cute. Reading to animals is a great way for kiddos to practise their reading.

18.01.2022 Just beautiful.

17.01.2022 That’s it in a nutshell and that’s why play is so important: Play is the human instinct to educate itself.

11.01.2022 This article makes my heart sing. It all starts with reading aloud.

10.01.2022 Time to Talk for Two! Book reading is such a lovely activity for language learning, and its not just for big kids! When reading a book to your toddler..., position your baby so they can see the book too and be involved. You can comment on the pictures you see for your baby and then read the story for your toddler and add on to the language theyre producing. In our first picture youll see baby F practising some side lying whilst her sister reads her a book, then swipe across to see her bigger and stronger, enjoying a book during tummy time! #timetotalk #languagedevelopment #earlylanguage #toddlerlanguage #languagelearning #earlylearning #toddlertalk #simplebabyplay #babymilestones #earlyintervention #playtimewithbaby #fourthtrimester #babyskills #waytoplay #newmomtips #thirdtrimester #pregnancy #perthmum #toddlermum #childdevelopment #babydevelopment #perthdads #kidsofinstagram #babiesofinstagram #creativeplay #motherhood #childhoodunplugged #perth #slp #speechdelay @ Perth, Western Australia

09.01.2022 This is so important. Learning to identify emotions as they arise in our bodies, name them and talk about them is the key to developing resilience, confidence and emotion regulation skills.

08.01.2022 Have your children read the Tashi books? My daughter adored them when she was young. I love this beautiful story about the inspiration behind them.

05.01.2022 Does your little one ask you to read the same book over and over again? It can get frustrating but theres a good reason for it. bit.ly/3iAM90y

05.01.2022 My son and I made a little story this week to brighten up your day... Feel free to share with those who need a smile.

05.01.2022 Some good ideas here. Including reading picture books!

05.01.2022 This is something that can be hard to understand and to accept, though intellectually, perhaps, we all understand it. In terms of books and reading, it took me a long time to realise that, because I loved books and reading, I always assumed my children would too. And that, if I had liked a particular book as a child, they would too. Looking back, I see how weird this thinking was. My children are themselves, unique and beautiful just as they are. They all loved reading when... they were younger and they adored being read to as little ones. But, as they grew, they had different interests and they didnt read as much as I thought they *should*. Or as much as I wanted them to. And thats OK. Now, in their 20s, one reads a lot and he reads a lot of fiction. The other two, not so much. And thats OK. They are themselves.

03.01.2022 If you’re looking for Chinese New Year books to help introduce your kiddos to the traditions which surround the lunar new year, look no further. The start of the Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival and it’s the most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. It’s celebrated by Chinese communities all over the world, with families coming together toeat lots of food, enjoy fireworks, wear special clothes and hang red lanterns to mark the occasion. In ...China, schools and businesses often close for the first few days of the new year so that families can spend time together and there areparades and performances, with people dressed in traditional clothes. I spent part of my childhood in Hong Kong and well remember the excitement of the New Year celebrations. If you’d like to introduce your little one to some of the traditions around this special time of year, check out the link in my bio to see my pick of the best Chinese New Year books for small humans. As usual, I’ve limited the number of books on the list to make it easier for you to choose and I’ve only included the Chinese New Year books I think are really worthwhile hunting out. . . . . . #kidsbookstagram#bookstagram#booksforkids #kidlit#instabook#igreads#childrensliterature#raisingreaders #childrensbooks#booksofinstagram #storytime#picturebooks #ChildrensBooks#ChildrensBookstagram#KidsBookstagram#kidsbooks #kidslovebooks #BooksForKids#ChildrensPictureBooks#InstaBooks#ChildrensBookReviews#picturebooklove #readaloud #raisingreaders #readalouds #readingtotoddlers #readingtochildren #readingtochildrenmatters #readingtokids #chinesenewyearbooks See more

01.01.2022 "Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet.... "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I dont think I do." "Thats okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often dont feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know youve got someone there for you. And Ill always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." A.A. Milne Sending thoughts to those having a Difficult Day today and hope you have your own Piglet to sit beside you
