22.01.2022 Many new authors question the need for Editors and Beta Readers. Don't! Reading a seemingly well written, well paced self published book recently, into chapter 3. The MC within 5 pages is dropping her child for a Friday night sleep over, the NEXT DAY is making lunch and seeing them onto the school bus. Sorry that was a BIG NO from me and the book was put on the DNF pile that goes in the recycle paper. No review, no comment. ... Please before publishing have non-related critical eyes go over the story. Eyes that understand, plot structure and timelines, character arc and development. It will be all the better for it. Don't question the need, do it.

02.01.2022 How do you feel about authors who take forever to finish writing a series but produce other work and books in the meantime? Many years ago I took a vow to never start reading a series until all the books were available. During Covid lockdown I broke this vow and on visiting the author's site realised that she has written 6 books since the last in this series and it has languished for nearly 6 years. I won't be purchasing any more of her unfinished series and possibly none of... her books at all. Feel very betrayed. BUT..how do you feel in these circumstances? EDIT...in circumstances where the publisher will take the book and the writer is just procrastinating in finishing the series. I am aware that in many cases the sales of the first books impacts on the continuation of further books. This in and of itself is often a deterrent, for me, in buying debut books.
