25.01.2022 Ohhh it's been a day. Ellis woke up just before 5 this morning and basically hasn't slept since. I thought babies slept a lot? Aren't naps like a baby's "thing"? I mean, I'd love nothing more than to curl up and have a nap whenever I want #missedopportunity . Anyway, Ellis was chock full of the feels and it was the first time I literally was unable to put him down all day. It. Was. Exhausting. I felt like I was going to cry right along with him at times. . Point of this pos...t? Just to shout out to all the amazing mummas out there. And to the mums with more than one kid...you deserve a medal. And to the single mummas... well you don't get a medal because you're clearly superheroes - there is no other logical explanation for how you get through each day AND manage to raise amazing, kind, fully-functional little humans. Much love to you all. I'm going to put on Outlander and fall asleep on the couch See more

23.01.2022 NEW NEW NEW // New look, who dat? We've been working on something special behind the scenes for quite a while now, and are SO happy to finally reveal it to you! After 3+ years of the same look and feel, we decided it was time to shake it up. Our beautiful new icon is what dreams are made of - literally. About a year ago, I had a dream where I opened a great big, dusty book of fairy tales and from within the pages, wildflowers began to grow. The flowers grew and grew, until th...ey covered the book, and began to wrap around my hands and arms. It was only once I was so entwined in flowers that the book and I had sort of become one, that I woke up. No idea what that meant, but I like to think it reflected my thinking about this business, and my passion for where I want to take it. I've been thinking about the book of wildflowers since that dream, and it's finally been brought to life as our new icon (along with a new colour scheme) by the amazing @pmvickers Fun fact - Paige was my very first best friend. We met 23 years ago, at the age of 7. At the time, I was extremely jealous of her lonnnng blonde hair, and later - of her amazing artistic ability. I'm so happy we've kept in touch, as it's so special to work with her on something so close to my heart. (Paige also designed our Story Starters by the way!) We'll be transitioning our website branding over the next day, and you can expect to see lots of gorgeous green in all your packages. These changes reflect some of the longer term plans for Bookieboo we've been working on, particularly some exciting projects for the start of 2021. What do you think? Do you love it as much as I do? x

18.01.2022 MAKING A BABY: An Inclusive Guide to How Every Family Begins Guys. Can we all just stop for a moment to appreciate how amazing this book is?! . Ok, great - let's continue. So for today's pick for a book celebrating BIPOC authors, illustrators, and/or characters, we've selected this little gem. It's a honest and accessible non-fiction book about where babies come from, written in gentle language and designed to facilitate open conversations between parent and child. . The au...thors worked closely with LGBTIQ organisations to create MAKING A BABY, and the book covers everything from sex, sperm and egg donation, IUI, IVF, surrogacy and adoption, as well as explaining how a baby grows in the womb and about different kinds of births. Every child deserves to see their birth or family story reflected in books about where babies come from, and this is what this book is all about. . In terms of BIPOC representation, we love that once again - it's not focus of the book - but that the book simply normalises diversity and inclusion by presenting families of all different races, structures, religions, sexual orientation, and abilities. We're calling it - this is our new favourite non-fiction. . By Rachel Greener & Clare Owen, published by @nosycrow . Have you had the 'birds and bees' discussion with your child yet? How did it go? Did they prompt the conversation, and did you feel prepared with knowledge for what to share and how? x See more

18.01.2022 I've been struggling to think what I can do in the current situation - what I can offer other than a listening ear, and open eyes. . I've realised I can help in a very small way by using my platform to continue sharing books that represent diversity - specifically this week with regards to BIPOC (Black and Indigenous people, and People of Colour) characters, authors, illustrators - to help you as parents not only support conversations on race, racism, and resistance with your... children, but also to encourage you to #diversifyyourbookshelf . Pictured is WE ALL SLEEP, a gorgeous book from mother and son team Sally Morgan and Ezekiel Kwaymullina and published by @penguinbooksaus . Readers go on a journey through a day, celebrating the interconnectedness of people and animals in lyrical language and sumptuous colour. . For the rest of this week I'll be sharing a series of great BIPOC books, and as a business I'll be making a conscious effort to continue stocking diverse books - particularly focusing on expanding our current Indigenous books offering. I'll definitely be getting some more of @magabalabooks amazing titles in stock, that's for sure! . How are you supporting your children at the moment? Are you using books as a framework to conversation? xx See more

17.01.2022 AFTERPAY // This was basically my face when we got approved for Afterpay and I FINALLY figured out how to integrate it (there was a glitch so I didn't get it working until a few hours after the launch of our new collections ... ) BUT it's available now! . I've included a very tiny peek at just some of my favourite new products in the Storytelling & Literacy collection. I really tried to think about each and every product, and to choose things that would help facilitate a beautiful interactive storytelling or literacy experience. . Is there anything else you'd like to see us stock very soon? I'd love to know what you think

17.01.2022 LITERALLY - Amazing Words and Where They Come From // Are you a wordsmith like me? If so, you'll love this book! . Literally is a stunning non-fiction picture book about the origins of the English Language. You'll be surprised at the global and cultural diversity hidden in the words we use every day!Did you know that English words come from all over the world? And often their meanings have changed over time? . Learn the meanings and history of words like SAFARI and WORM , ...UKELELE and ZERO. . We'll be listing this one (plus lots others!) on the website tonight x See more

15.01.2022 IT'S OCTOBER, WITCHES! You know what that means... my favourite holiday! Spooky decorations, scary movies, mulled cider, and Ellis in an adorable costume... Sounds good to me! Up until recently, I always had a Halloween party each year. One year I spent the best part of a week (and my paycheck) turning our garage into a haunted house - complete with fog machine, ghosts, and "guts" made from painted expanding foam. This year will be a quieter affair, but you can bet I'll... be sharing some of my favorite Halloween books! I've ordered a few but they haven't arrived yet HALLOWEEN SENSORY RICE is online now. Premade and ready to ship! Do you 'do' Halloween? What are your plans this year?

13.01.2022 FINAL RESTOCK now live. That's it, folks The thought of seeing all these lovely books making a home in your child's bookcase and hopefully, their heart, gives me all the feels. . 13.01.2022 GIMME ALL THE RAINBOWS It's no secret that we're more than a little obsessed with this book! BAKE A RAINBOW CAKE now back in stock - makes for the perfect birthday gift . Gorgeous picture from @lifewithbronte x

12.01.2022 I KNOW A LOT! The next book in our #diversifyyourbookshelf series celebrating BIPOC authors, illustrators, and/or characters is this adorable board book from Stephen Krensky & Sara Gillingham @saragillinghamstudio . I Know A Lot! is part of an empowerment series celebrating the feats and small wins of growing out of toddlerhood (think "I Am So Brave", "I Can Do it Myself!" and "Now I Am Big!"), with this one about all the things the main character knows - whether comparing ...heavy rocks to lighter flowers, showing an understanding of hot and cold, or cause and effect. . We love that this book doesn't have a central theme of diversity - but instead focuses on a person of colour and her family as the main character. While it is of course important to have conversations about race, racism, resistance, and equality with your children, it's also important to normalise diversity from a young age, showing that there's lots of types of people in the world - some might look similar to you, and some might look different - and that's ok. . We also love the bold colours and retro styling of this book. A great addition to any home library! . Have recent events prompted any conversations with your children? Kids are so perceptive and often full of questions in times of unrest or uncertainty. See more

09.01.2022 DIVERSIFY YOUR BOOKSHELF // "Kids who see their own experiences reflected in books gain self-confidence. And when they read about experiences that differ from their own, they develop curiosity and empathy." . As our world becomes increasingly smaller, connected, and diverse, it's so important that our childrens' bookshelves reflect the world around them. So is it time to take stock of your bookshelf? Below are a couple easy tips to help #diversifyyourbookshelf . Diversity... doesn't just mean skin colour. Think about books that depict diversity in age, gender, ethnicity, language, religion, sexual orientation, ability, family make up and/or socio-economic status. . Actively seek out diverse books. Unfortunately it can be more difficult to find books with diverse representation of characters, but they're well worth the hunt! . Normalise diversity. By presenting diverse characters and concepts in your children's books, your children will grow to be familiar and respectful of all people. Keep in mind you don't need to make this the focus of the book, just include diverse characters in every-day stories! . We've included some of our favourites here, but what are some of your favourite picks to diversify your bookshelf? See more

02.01.2022 SMALL WORLD // Is the idea of #smallworldplay intimidating for you? I know it was for me! You see so many gorgeous accounts on Instagram and Pinterest with such elaborate small worlds, it can be a bit overwhelming to know where to start. But these setups - while amazing - aren't essential for promoting interactive storytelling and imaginative play. . Take this super simple small world that took me less than two minutes to set up. No, it's not the most creative invitation to p...lay. BUT sometimes the simplest of activities inspire the most imaginative play. . We've used a dinosaur book as a backdrop, two wooden dinosaurs (of course fitting into the correct time period for the backdrop!!), a couple fake plants, and two hand-dyed play silks. The silks not only set the foundation for the small world, but also provide a lovely sensory experience. We could have easily added some leaves and sand or rice for more dimension, but this setup is perfect for travel or for little ones that mouth. . SWIPE for a bit more detail. We currently stock DAY OF THE DINOSAURS (tagged), and are so excited to announce that from 1 JULY we'll be stocking the dinosaurs AND a whole range of @possumkids_byjen hand-dyed play silks in nature-inspired colours. . What's your must have for a 2 minute small world setup? See more

01.01.2022 BOOKISH FLATLAY // Some of our current favourites Do you spot any books that you recognise?

01.01.2022 So I made it through my first week of full time work after taking the past year off on Maternity Leave... Gosh, the mum guilt is so real. I'm lucky enough to be able to work remotely while my mum/ MIL takes care of Ellis - but he's struggling a little bit to settle in, crying for ages each night until we go in and give him extra cuddles Hopefully it gets better?? In other news, thank you SO much for all your beautiful orders this week. I've been getting them packaged each night after work, and hopefully will get into a bit of a routine balancing work life - mum life - biz life very soon I'll tell you one thing - I'll definitely be appreciating my weekends more now! Lots of rainbow rice making is on the agenda, but I'll remember to wear gloves this time to avoid the stained hands
