25.01.2022 Lets celebrate love in all its myriad forms today Gif by the marvellous Mochimochi Land
25.01.2022 Last year yall helped us keep 11,309 disposable coffee cups out of the waste stream by bringing reusables. Thanks for the good work, people! Our cups AND lids are fully compostable (as opposed to just biodegradable which means bugger all) but its still great to reduce any single use packaging. Lets keep it up! Remember: we offer 20 cents off if you bring your reusable.
24.01.2022 It’s obvious we need to get back to the shop. So we’ll be re-opening tomorrow for half-days only, 7am - 1pm Monday through Friday. We’ll be sticking to the one in, one out ordering system for now, and it’ll be takeaway with card payments only, and no reusable cups until SA is 100% in the clear. It broke our hearts to close at the end of March, but without knowing where Covid-19 would take us, we were relieved, too, to know we wouldn’t risk becoming a hub for transmission to... vulnerable people. We feel comfortable about opening now. We hope there’ll be enough of you working in town to come in for your coffee, and hope that the strangeness and difficulty of lockdown came with good things, too. We can’t wait to see you
23.01.2022 Two days to go to @bowerbird.au ! Well be serving up @degrootcoffeeco caffeination to power you through two and a half days of wondrous shopping at Wayville Showgrounds. See you there!
23.01.2022 2019 flew past and here we are already, opening for the last time this year. We close at 2pm today and open again on Monday 13th January. Wishing you all a very merry Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Festivus. Thank you for your support this year, customers and suppliers all. Heres to a shiny new year may 2020 bring all the positivity and progress this world needs
23.01.2022 Lachie = Its become an annual tradition, and its happening again this morning. Lachies one of our fave regulars who saves up his @rewardle points all year so he can give free coffees to customers in the queue behind behind him. How nice is that? (He wont be making the coffees though he stepped the other side of the counter because we kinda think he looks cool behind the coffee machine)
22.01.2022 New The New Yorker magazine in da house for you to read while drinking your cawfee
22.01.2022 Kindness is catching. Rob joins Lachie in his Santagang . When Rob heard how Lachie gave away his Rewardle points as free coffees for others in the line behind him, Rob decided to do the same. Three people are going to benefit this morning! Seriously. We have. the. best. customers. #kindnessbegetskindness #payingitforward #realchristmasspirit #merrychristmas

21.01.2022 Hello Booknook friends, Katherine here again. Time's been doing strange things; I can hardly believe we've been open for almost six weeks now, though we're still only operating from 7am to 2pm. You might have seen Paul, Kirra or Brooklyn in the shop, but I've missed you all, as I've been busy with bookish business. On which note, another unashamed post for those of you who might be interested: next Tuesday evening there'll be a free Zoom event hosted by Matilda Bookshop in St...irling, where I'll be in conversation with bookseller Molly Murn (author of the heart-stirring novel Heart of the Grass Tree) about my novel The Things She Owned which was released at the end of April. There are still a few places available. It'll be the last significant event for a while and the closest to a launch, late as it is, since my planned event was Covid-cancelled. Hope you can join us. Katherine. See more

Destined for yours or a loved ones belly while stocks last. #adelaidecoffee #adelaidecafe #valentinesdaytreat #glutenfreedessert

12.01.2022 The world sure has changed since our last post. This is an important message to all our customers. In line with the federal government announcement on Sunday, we now operate on a takeaway basis only.... Our aim is to keep Booknook & Bean open and our crew employed for as long as its safe to do so, while taking our responsibility to protect customers, staff and the wider community seriously. To this end, weve taken the following steps: We no longer accept cash or re-usable cups Weve trained our staff to be extra vigilant, regularly washing hands in line with WHO guidelines, regularly sanitising and disinfecting all surfaces and maintaining the standards that earned us our Excellent five-star South Australian food safety rating To comply with restrictions on indoor gatherings to 1 person per 4 square metres of indoor space, please enter the shop one at a time to place your order, and return outside to wait for us to bring your order to the door. Please be mindful of the recommended 1.5 metres of social distancing as you wait to order or to pick up. We understand the steps weve taken will be an inconvenience. These are extraordinary times, and were taking these extraordinary measures to protect the wellbeing of everyone in our state. We thank you in advance for your patience. Stay well, stay safe and keep smiling. Wash your hands; breathe Thank you for your support. Well keep you updated. Together, well get through this!

Wishing you a very happy Christmas, Hannukah, Festivus and New Year
11.01.2022 THANK YOU to our landlord, City of Adelaide, for waiving our rent for three months. We’re still open just with one customer in the shop at a time and stringent hygiene measures. But as the situation here worsens we’re pondering the dilemma of providing a service to the few remaining in the city while keeping the public safe. Business has become unviable; Paul and I must engage survival mode. It’s likely that tomorrow, Friday, we’ll close our doors indefinitely. Our staff,... Kirra, Brooklyn and Annabel, have been a source of strength; they assure us they’ll be looked after, or can find alternative means of support. They’re family to us, and families stay together. Desperate measures equal desperate times, so I leave this here: Some of you may know I’ve been working on a novel for ten years which was contracted to a publisher last year. One of the reasons I’ve largely been absent from the shop is because I’ve been preparing for publication. The launch was due April 30th and its cancellation, along with other publicity events, means the book will struggle to shift the copies pre-ordered by booksellers before the outbreak in surprisingly large quantities. I hope you won’t mind if along with cheery coffee-related posts I make use of this page to find as many readers for it as possible. I’d be grateful if you’d spread the word to those readers you know who can still afford to buy books. The survival of Australian bookselling and publishing is at stake, too. My novel is called ‘The Things She Owned’, and my name is Katherine Tamiko Arguile. Details are already online and I’ll post more in the weeks to come. To everyone who has continued to support us to the end: our hearts are full. For your warmth and compassion, thank you. We’ve received cards and extraordinary gestures of kindness. We won’t let ten years of hard graft go down the drain we’ll fight to survive so that one day we might open our doors again. You’ll walk in, and the smell of coffee will wake you up to your working day as Kirra, Brooklyn, Annabel, Paul or I look up, smile and say: Morning! What can we get you today? Keep smiling, keep being kind to one another, keep well. Keep on keeping on
11.01.2022 Cash has to be Queen today. Our EFTPOS is still not functioning, hot spotting using our phones is no longer working. Were so sorry for the inconvenience

07.01.2022 Hi, Katherine here I said Id post here about my novel, The Things She Owned, when it was released, since the lockdown blew out the launch and all face-to-face publicity events. It arrived in bookshops last week, but I didnt do anything for an online launch in the end. So here goes (along with my first review). It took ten years and a hell of a slog to write tip for getting novels written faster: never open a coffee shop in the middle of it all. For anyone interested to ...know more, I have various links to articles, readings, Q&As, interviews and extracts on my author page Katherine Tamiko Arguile. Id hugely appreciate your support following me there. Ill come in at some point soon with books Ive been asked to sign some for regulars, so Ill keep you posted so you know when Ill be popping in to Topham Mall. Were open at BN&B, but for now Im having to focus on online publicity work. I hope youre all keeping well and cheery. See you soon! https://www.betterreading.com.au//the-things-she-owned-by/

02.01.2022 Its our 4th birthday today. Should have been Beigelrys too, but oh all you lovely folk at the Beigelry, oh The Beigelry, how we miss you already! A bittersweet birthday without our best mates. We started alongside each other in 2015 through Renew Adelaide and theyve been such fantastic neighbours. We wish Brendan and all the Beigelpeople all the best with their next ventures. Meanwhile, if you miss your bagels, well be selling a select few, with fillings, from tomorrow onwards.
