14.01.2022 Jobs where you’re paid cash-in-hand and ‘not technically working there’ can lead to problems like: losing worker protections if you have an accident losing... out on money for your retirement through super getting caught and having to pay back the tax you owe, with penalties and interest. Don’t let taking cash come back to bite you. Cash is income too so remember to include it in your tax return. 07.01.2022 Test your tax time knowledge! Here's a list of 10 deductions you (probably) can’t claim: 1 Travel between home and work. 2 Car expenses for transporting bul...ky tools or equipment, unless they’re required to do your job, your boss needs you to transport them, and there’s nowhere to store them at work. 3 Car expenses that have been salary sacrificed. 4 Meal expenses for travel, unless you were required to work away from home overnight. 5 Private travel. Taking a work trip that includes personal travel? Claim the work-related portion only. 6 Everyday clothes you wear to work (eg a suit or black pants). To legitimately claim a uniform, it needs be unique and distinctive. 7 Higher education contributions charged through the HELP scheme. 8 Self-education expenses if the study doesn’t have a direct connection to your current job. 9 Private use of phone or internet expenses. Up-front deductions for tools and equipment that cost more than $300. You’ll need to spread these deduction claims over a number of years. Find out more and get your claims right https://ato.gov.au/deductions

01.01.2022 We’re warning the public against using unregistered tax practitioners this tax time. We want to ensure that registered practitioners are not left at a competiti...ve disadvantage by unregistered advisers offering unrealistically large tax refunds and benefits that are not available under the law, costing consumers thousands of dollars in tax bills and penalties. We’re encouraging consumers to check the TPB Register to confirm they’re using a registered tax practitioner. Give your clients peace of mind this tax time and display your ‘Registered tax practitioner’ symbol. Get it here: http://ow.ly/yDFb50AlmHm
