24.01.2022 The day we met Ray Martin. I was going through some old photos and came across this ripper, this photo with Ray Martin, Donna and myself was taken after he presented at one of our breakfast events in Maroochydore QLD. It was a wonderful event and Ray’s presentation was fantastic. He shared his life story and the 300 + people in the crowd hung off his every word.... Ray was a perfect gentleman and his journalist career made for an incredibly compelling story. Most think of Ray as a host but when you start to think about his time with 60 Minutes and the people he interviewed, it’s just amazing. I also had the pleasure of catching up with him for a coffee and a chat the week before the event. I recall walking to the café thinking what am I going to talk to Ray Martin about, two hours later, we were the best of friends. A true gentleman and so down to earth. I’ve recently helped a beautiful friend book Ray for her event and everyone will love him. Ray Martin is represented exclusively by Claxton Speakers, they are brilliant to work with and if you ask for Zoe, you will get one of the most professional consultants in the country to look after you. 22.01.2022 A professor gave a balloon to every student, who had to inflate it, write their name on it and throw it in the hallway. The professor then mixed all the balloons. The students were given 5 minutes to find their own balloon. Despite a hectic search, no one found their balloon. At that point the professor told the students to take the first balloon that they found and hand it to the person whose name was written on it. Within 5 minutes everyone had their own balloon. The professor said to the students: These balloons are like happiness. We will never find it if everyone is looking for their own. 21.01.2022 Our events industry STOPPED on 13 March!!! All speakers lost their jobs, all venues lost their bookings, all supporting industries, including audio visual, catering, event hire, photographers, event staff and the rest, all lost their jobs!!! Devastating for all and everyone in limbo - not a good state to be in. As we are starting to hear about restrictions easing and possible borders opening, what will this mean for our industry?... This is a question Gerry had swimming around his head, so...why not get some key industry people together and discuss what is our next steps, what can we be preparing for. 14.01.2022 Blah, blah, blah. Dad started each day telling us this and other positive quotes. When I was a sullen, full of angst teenager, it wasn’t welcomed. I’ve felt again like that sullen and angsty teenager lately because of this pandemic. We need to be honest, it’s not all a bed of roses and sunshine at the moment. And that’s coming from someone based in South Australia.... Over the weekend, a niece over from Sydney said Adelaide was almost like pre-Covid! And someone on the table beside us at the beach café questioned why we didn’t have to sign in. Even though we’re here in SA, our industry, the events industry, is Australia wide heck, worldwide and it’s been smashed. That’s why I was acting like a sullen, angsty teenager again, peeved to say the least at what this disease has done to our industry. I am noticing a change though, there have been enquiries, there have been bookings for guest speakers and there is a way to still hold an event or conference it’s online and it’s working well. Our speakers are trained and educated on how to present online, how to make a dynamic impression to an audience sitting in their homes or offices.
