25.01.2022 The great thing about catching up with other booksellers on holidays, is reading the books they recommend! On our little sojourn away from the shop, I breezed through The Funny Thing About Norman Foreman; the light-hearted and poignant story of 12 year old Norman, and his friend Jax. Their goal is to attend the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with their comedy duo act, before they turn 15. When Jax dies suddenly, Norman is left to ensure their dream becomes reality, and he sets out on a quest to attend the Edinburgh Fringe, and to find his dad along the way. Norman's mum Sadie is determined to see the plan through, even if it means meeting every maybe-dad on the way there. I laughed, I nearly cried, and I was left wanting more. Just loved it. https://booktique.com.au//the-funny-thing-about-norman-fo/

16.01.2022 Wow. I probably don't need to give you a rundown of the story - but this edition of Dracula is spectacular. The red on the cover? That's flock. Some of you might have to look that up - let's just say it's a bit fuzzy. Printed page edges, illustrations by Edward Gorey.... what's not to love here? Happy Friday! https://booktique.com.au/product/dracula-2/

13.01.2022 It must be Treehouse Day! The 143-Storey Treehouse arrived today, plus a full-colour version of the 13-Storey Treehouse for good measure! https://booktique.com.au/product/the-143-storey-treehouse/

09.01.2022 Devotion is Hannah Kent’s third novel five years in the making, and worth every minute of the wait. The story is loosely based on the migration of German villagers to the new colony of South Australia, early in the 19th century. Hanne Nussbaum doesn’t fit the mould of young women in the village of Kay; she resists her path to womanhood and all that it entails, and is more at home in the forest or with the family’s pig than attending parties. When Thea and her family arrive ...in Kay, Hanne and Thea strike an immediate and unbreakable bond and Hanne has finally found a friend she can confide in. Having made the difficult decision to migrate to Australia, the villagers of Kay are transported in appalling conditions to South Australia, where they forge a new life in another country. Hanne and Thea cannot be together in this ancient and hostile land, and their love for each other, although ever-present, is not enough to keep them together. True devotion can transcend time and cross boundaries that we never knew existed, and Hannah Kent’s writing is just the vehicle to make us believe that anything is possible. Devotion is a novel of power, belief and commitment. I just loved it. Available as paperback or hardback, for the devotees... https://booktique.com.au/product/devotion-5/

08.01.2022 It seems like I'm reading quite a few murder mysteries recently... My Best Friend's Murder just arrived in the shop this afternoon (Polly Phillips). I read an advance copy a month or so ago, and just loved it. This fits into the category of psychological thriller more than crime I think, but let's face it, there IS a body in there! Bec and Izzy are best friends, and they've been through a lot together. Izzy's sudden and dramatic death poses questions that not everyone wants answered - and Bec may have the best motive of them all. How many ways are there to kill a friendship? https://booktique.com.au/product/my-best-friends-murder/
