14.01.2022 WHAT BIRDS TEACH US A beautifully illustrated presentation in which the author draws upon the unique behaviour characteristics of some of Australia's popular birds and integrates these with important life skills, to encourage us all to do life better. The book targets the 8 to 12 year age group but is enjoyed by all ages. The photos are from the authors own collection and the book reflects his live of birdwatching, family counselling studies and past medical science caree...r, as a legacy to his grandchildren, and all young people who need encouragement and help to do life better. The first edition was a sell out success so he has launched a second edition which has improved photos and text as well as more birds as well as addressing life issues and concerns experienced by Primary and High School children. #birds #childrensreference What Birds Teach Us

13.01.2022 The NEW Matthew Reilly Born in Sydney in 1974, Matthew Reilly was not always a big fan of reading. It was only after he read To Kill A Mockingbird and Lord of the Flies in Year 10 that he realised reading could transport you to another world. Following this revelation, Matthew soon began creating stories of his own and set about writing his first novel, Contest, at the age of 19 while still at university studying law. Following rejections from all the major publishers, ...Matthew self-published Contest in 1996, printing 1000 copies. He produced a big-budget-looking novel which he sold into bookshops throughout Sydney, one shop at a time. In January 1997, a Commissioning Editor for Pan Macmillan Australia walked into Angus & Robertson's Pitt Street Mall store and bought a copy of Contest. The editor tracked Matthew down through his contact details in the front of the book. Interestingly, those original self-published editions of Contest have now become much sought after collectors' items. One recently sold on eBay for $1200! Matthew Reilly is now the internationally bestselling author of the Scarecrow novels: Ice Station, Area 7, Scarecrow, Scarecrow and the Army of Thieves and the novella Hell Island; the Jack West novels: Seven Ancient Wonders, The Six Sacred Stones, The Five Greatest Warriors, The Four Legendary Kingdoms, and The Three Secret Cities; and the standalone novels Contest, Temple, Hover Car Racer, The Tournament, Troll Mountain, The Great Zoo of China and The Secret Runners of New York #fiction Matthew Reilly

As princess of the island kingdom Visidia, Amora Montara has spent her entire life training to be High Animancer the master of souls. The rest of the realm can choose their magic, but for Amora, it’s never been a choice. To secure her place as heir to the throne, she must prove her mastery of the monarchy’s dangerous magic. When her demonstration goes awry, Amora is forced to flee. She strikes a deal with Bastian, a mysterious pirate: he’ll help her prove she’s fit to rule, if she’ll help him reclaim his stolen magic. But sailing the kingdom holds more wonder and more peril than Amora anticipated. A destructive new magic is on the rise, and if Amora is to conquer it, she’ll need to face legendary monsters, cross paths with vengeful mermaids, and deal with a stowaway she never expected or risk the fate of Visidia and lose the crown forever. #teenfiction #loveyourbookshop

07.01.2022 2020 in a BOOK From the bestselling author of Strayapedia comes the definitive dictionary of the year the world went to sht. 2020 sucked. It's been a year of bushfires, floods, a recession, a global pandemic and Kanye West's presidential campaign. But it was also the year we all watched Hamilton, baked sourdough, had dinner parties on Zoom and drank constantly - okay, so maybe that wasn't such a great thing either.... Amid the non-stop trauma, however, it's been a year of togetherness and community spirit - though mostly trauma. But as we limp towards 2021, it's time to look back at it all, and laugh. Because at least we all suffered through this year together. Not literally together - that was generally illegal. But we were side by side in our bubbles, all going through the same thing. The 2020 Dictionary is an invaluable record of all we learned in the year the world turned to sh*t, helpfully collected in alphabetical order, with jokes where appropriate, as well as in some places where they probably aren't. #humour #giftbook #loveyourbookshop

02.01.2022 BETOOTA 2020 From the heart of the Western Queensland Channel Country, Australia's oldest and favourite newspaper details our country's very rocky start to a new decade that was supposed to be one of great optimism and innovation 2020 was meant to be our year of healing. A time to tend to the wounds of a country torn asunder by a decade of divisive political and media debates. A lack of confidence in the international sporting arena. A 24-hour news cycle that has destroye...d the pub test. We thought all of the uncertainty was behind us. The federal election delivered us Scotty from Marketing. The Quiet Australian spoke up. Gay marriage? Yep. Climate change? Let's wait and see what happens. Smudge and Warner had served their time and, together as a nation, it was time to rebuild. But fate had other plans, starting with the worst bushfires in human memory. While large swathes of the country burned, our politicians were either on holidays or giving their mates grants to build indoor pools in blue-ribbon seats. Surely, it couldn't get worse. 'ken oath it could. Mother nature arrived as COVID-19, and told us all to go to our rooms. #societyandculture #popularculture #Politics #humour The Betoota Advocate

01.01.2022 Rivers have long run in the blood of Australians Featuring a chapter on our beautiful Clarence River Givers of life and subjects of anguish, Australian rivers have shaped the nation from the moment the first Australians arrived tens of thousands of years ago. Offering the vital ingredient for life, they are also guardians of culture, a means of transportation, sites for play and leisure, and sources of powerdeeply entrenched in almost every aspect of human life and an... irreplaceable part of the global ecosystem. In this broad-ranging survey of some of Australia's most well-known, loved, engineered and fought over rivers, from Melbourne's Yarra to the Alligator rivers of Kakadu, award-winning author Ian Hoskins presents a history of our complex connections to water. #loveyourbookshop #myclarencevalley
