25.01.2022 I know a few of our members have sat for AMEB exams (practice or theory). Check out the free access details below...

23.01.2022 Free concert in Ipswich by Ipswich city orchestra. Our members and top fans may like to check it out.

23.01.2022 Triangle solo amusing clip (in fact I can’t think of a single piece of ours that has a triangle solo)... enjoy We at community band are still looking to fill the percussion section: auxiliary percussionist role (1 or 2 people) and a drum kit player who can read music & is able to come regularly to our Monday night rehearsals. We have a few past drummers who come and help out when they can for performances.

22.01.2022 With so many apologies this evenings band rehearsal was cancelled at 7:05pm. Katie & I spent 40 minutes practicing our flutes, focused on tricky sections in Bolero & Harry Potter & working on technical scales, trill fingering and embouchure for low & high notes. We enjoyed getting our harmonies together. Thanks again for practicing with me. - Suzanne

22.01.2022 Band members who live locally - what are your thoughts on saving (or not) the trees in the Main Street? Comments welcome

21.01.2022 Hopefully we at community band all agree with this meme- everyone in our band is awesome, everyone has a part to play and even when the music gets tricky we don’t give up on each other - we work hard to make good music together. Looking forward to seeing you all for Monday nights rehearsal.

21.01.2022 A Christmas music challenge- can you match the title to the musical excerpts?

21.01.2022 Just gotta share this gorgeous picture book for all our band family & friends. Vincent- I hope you enjoy it (not that your a shorty)... Suzanne

19.01.2022 For those who missed last weeks rehearsal we started looking at Anzac Day repertoire (assuming our local events will run & we will be invited to play). We’ll probably spend 20-30 minutes every week on these for the rest of the term. We ran through : crosswinds & new anzacs (one of which we may march with); the anthems (Aussie & NZ) and pachelbels canon... next week we hope to run through the hymns (Onward Christian soldiers/Amazing Grace/O god our help) We spent quite a bit o...f time on Within the castle walls (giving our new drummer a chance to hear how his drum parts fits into group). Next week we plan to look at The Great Escape. Obviously we’ll also be working towards a fun set for the Boonah show. See more

19.01.2022 Our first rehearsal back was really great. So great to get my instrument out to play again with you all. Everyone did well with with our new covid safe plans - signing in, hand sanitising, using individual spit rags (if needed), only touching their own chair & own music stand and we coped with our shorter break with no food/drink just conversation with fellow band members. For the 2 members who sent apologies we practiced several pieces including:-... Congratulations, Accidentally in love, Bolero, birth of rock n roll and Hallelujah. We really would love to have a drummer & percussionist join us at rehearsals but we still sounded really good making music again together. So great to see smiles, light-bulb moments when members work out how to play better techniques or tricky sections and hearing the sound change when Mr Francis gives a funny suggestion or tip to improve musicality. Thank-you all for making our first rehearsal back such fun. - Suzanne

18.01.2022 Last regular Monday night rehearsal this week where we will play some favourites & our special Christmas play for fun, finger food, band break-up party at Stevens place coming up soon. Then we will holiday until students return to school (Feb 2021).

18.01.2022 Free fun short quizzes (I just tried grade 1 & grade 4) - they do ask for your email address to check if your answers are correct. Band members have a play and let us know if it was fun revision.

16.01.2022 Some photos of how much air a professional actually uses from the Vienna philharmonic. Enjoy your night off everyone (public holiday here in Boonah) see you next week for fun rehearsal

16.01.2022 For those band members who made it to our band Christmas break-up party last week at the play-shed, Nick has sent me a drop box link to some photos & videos of our short play for fun. Thanks Stephen Kimber for hosting us, it was really yummy food, great location & a few super keen musicians getting together for a bit of fun. Hope you enjoy them https://www.dropbox.com//430812/AABfBxymmcn-eTzv6wUPFGRMa

15.01.2022 Update from our Xmas party host Stephen: We actually have plenty of plates so we'll provide those. Also lots of individual serving tongs. Finger food avoids the use of cutlery and that is recommended practise for Covid. The venue is an open shed. Bring your own chair but we have plenty of bench seating. If you're up to playing bring all the necessary goodies. Figured we'd do the Xmas playlist we did at Kalbar. See you c. 11.30 to noon, Sunday 13th Dec. By the way, I'm also ...doing some meatballs. If you're vegan or vegetarian I think salads are being brought. Email me of you have any questions or text me on 0449179897 See more

14.01.2022 We had another fabulous rehearsal last Monday night making music together. For current members unable to make it : we practiced & worked together on Dr Who, Accidentally in love, birth of rock n roll, & started working on Harry Potter among other pieces. Past members : we will be in touch if we believe you may have the Bass clarinet or Drum (kit/part 1) folders as we have potential new members who will need these soon. We will need your folders back. ... New members are most welcome to get in touch & find out if our band is for you

13.01.2022 Dear members, Due to the latest COVID-19 restrictions for the greater Brisbane area (including Scenic Rim) band rehearsals are cancelled until further notice. We hope to be making music together again soon. Keep safe and well.

12.01.2022 Tambourine mountain orchestra will be recording their next concert... live stream.

09.01.2022 Rehearsals resume: Monday 1 February 2021 7.00pm - 8.30pm Band Hall, Walter St, Boonah... New and current members welcome. No audition required, just bring your instrument along.

08.01.2022 We’re not yet sure if the Boonah Arts Festival Red Rim concert will be going ahead. Boonah festival competitions (writing, poetry, art, photography, sewing/calico on catwalk) are open for entries.

08.01.2022 Today’s funny but mostly true meme...

08.01.2022 How much practice is enough? Brief article. Comments welcome as I’m sure we all have different opinions.

08.01.2022 No rehearsal next Monday 10th August (for rescheduled Public holiday long weekend). For those who missed this evenings rehearsal we worked some more on Harry Potter & Star Wars (both quite complex pieces with a lot of different parts/sections that it will take us a while to master) & played through Kelvin Grove, Imagine & Highland Cathedral for fun.

06.01.2022 Today’s amusing meme...

06.01.2022 Today’s learning experience - I’m sure many band members play piano & have a basic understanding of how pianos work. This guy explains it clearly

06.01.2022 Some music humour for you all. Thanks to those members who returned for our first rehearsal last week. We played through some of our old & new favourites including: Dr Who, in the hall of the mountain king, In the mood, highland cathedral, within the castle walls.... Looking forward to seeing more of you back and welcoming new faces next Monday.

05.01.2022 Band member (& current high school band captain) Latisha yesterday ready for the formal parade. Check out the high school FB page for all the great photos & videos.

04.01.2022 Band rehearsal is on tonight. Mr Francis has a mild sore throat (from teaching all day) but he is going to follow our covid safe plan and not attend rehearsal tonight (stay home if you have symptoms) - so Miss B will wave her arms around or playalong as needed.

03.01.2022 Another interesting looking concert coming to Boonah

03.01.2022 Here are a few phone photos of us playing at light up kalbar event from one of our fabulous parent supporters, thanks Katie and her mum. I also included the silly one of me posing next to the Christmas cow for a bit of a laugh. If you have a few good photos share them with us by text, email or Facebook.

02.01.2022 Any band members keen to do some practice- a scale-a-thon? Maybe we could organise a band challenge of who can do the most practice, best attendance once rehearsals recommence & most improved scales?
