24.01.2022 We are excited to report that the free camping issue at the Neil Turner Weir has reached a positive resolution with Sunwater effectively passing control of the vast majority of its land at that site to Maranoa Regional Council. The signs have now been removed. This great result comes after a tremendous effort by Council and it's CEO Julie Reitano to find a solution which fitted the best interests of all parties. We commend Council and Julie for their tenacious approach on thi...s matter. Of course, there is no doubt that the tremendous public outcry from local, regional and visiting communities (as evidenced by the hundreds who signed the petition) set the scene for those discussions and left absolutely no doubt where public sentiment lay. It was a great example of how passion, commitment and persistence is so vital to the continued well being of our community. Thanks for the amazing support.

21.01.2022 Booringa Christmas Lights Competition! Thanks Mitchell for turning on a bright and colourful Christmas. The number of amazing light displays around the town is astonishing and really makes Christmas 2020 something special at the end of an otherwise dark year. Competition judging was completed on the night of December 18 and the results were as follows:... Best Christmas Light Display Sally Whittaker Best Kids Christmas Light Display Zoe Edgley Christmas Farmgate Display The judges couldn’t split this one so it resulted in a dead heat between Ros Ware, Fairview Mungallala and Leigh Aisthorpe, Milroy Muckadilla. Judges also decided to award a prize to a group of residents on the eastern end of Short Street who collectively brightened up that end of town. Those winners will each receive a Family Day Pass to the Great Artesian Spa.

20.01.2022 Booringa Action Group has become aware that, thanks to a tremendous effort by Maranoa Regional Council, the prohibition of free camping on Sunwater land at the Neil Turner Weir should be positively resolved by as early as late this coming week. In the meantime, Booringa Action Group wishes to reassure visitors and intending visitors that there is still ample free camping at the Neil Turner Weir all of which is well signed and designated thanks once again to Council. We will keep posting updates as they come to hand but in the meantime we ask everyone, (especially our touring friends) to spread this great news

18.01.2022 Booringa Action Group is hopeful that the camping issue is moving quickly towards a positive resolution. This is, in no small part, due to the overwhelming support demonstrated by the local and touring communities, and we thank you for that wonderful support. We wish to reassure potential visitors that Sunwater only controls part of the land at Neil Turner Weir, and there is still free camping available at that spot. If you are unsure as to where you can camp, please contact Maranoa Regional Council. We kindly ask that everyone still sign the petition in our last post to continue the ongoing support we need.
15.01.2022 Sam Mackay sadly passed away on the evening of Monday, 13th April 2020. We understand that during this time, it can be tough to say goodbye with all of the restrictions in place. We would love for those who wish, to fill out the attached form and send through to us as well as any pictures and memories you may have. When all messages are in, BAG will print and collate them into a commemorative binder to be given to the family. While it is a poor substitute for the traditional service, this will in some part reassure the family that Sam was respected, valued and will be missed. https://tinyurl.com/mitchellsaysgoodbye

07.01.2022 A Piece of Our Past Since it was built in 1907, this magnificent old piano has no doubt provided entertainment to countless owners, managers and visitors to what was once the Bonus Downs empire. Now, thanks to the amazing generosity of Jack & Jess Chandler of Bonus Downs, it has pride of place at the Mitchell on Maranoa Art Gallery and Library where it stands as a poignant reminder of good ... times past and the rich heritage of the Mitchell district. A massive thanks to Jack & Jess for giving this community the opportunity to retain such a wonderful reminder of our past. Thanks also to the WORC team, Clayton Sylvester, Lyle Hooper and Gavin Pallisier who provided the machinery and muscle to get it into place and those Council staff who helped facilitate its new home.
