21.01.2022 A preliminary investigation was undertaken on double story brick and timber house at Cleveland by our building investigator Shaun. During the inspection it was noted that the property had cracks to the walls of approximately 6mm externally and 3mm internally. A level survey of the internal ground floor indicated differences in levels of approximately 60mm across the slab, with the levels generally falling from the right to the left. Given the groups of trees and shrubs well ...within their mature height to the left of the building (drawing moisture out of the ground causing possible subsidence) and some possible poor drainage conditions to the right (causing possible heave) it was recommended that the trees be removed and drainage upgraded. As a laundry and bathroom were noted to the right of the building, it was also recommended that a plumbing test be carried out to eliminate leaking drainage causing the heave to the right of the building. These rectifications would be seen as an essential first stage as it is well documented that differences in moisture levels across the building platform can cause these types of defects in buildings. If you would like someone to assess your home that may be displaying similar cracking or movement, please do not hesitate to contact our office via telephone (07) 3397 7876 or email [email protected]. 14.01.2022 Yianni is one of our many drafters at Booth Engineers, he specialises in residential engineering projects such as renovations and small dwellings. He recently completed a job at Macgregor, Brisbane, which included a new granny flat with an open plan area, light weight walls and a main feature of fixed high windows. This required Yianni, with the help of an engineer, to work his structural design around the feature windows. If this sounds like a project you currently require an engineer for or have any questions on how we can help you, please do not hesitate to contact our office via telephone (07) 3397 7876 or email [email protected].

11.01.2022 Crack of the Week! This weeks winner is from a QBCC inspection we completed. This was submitted by Tim our Design Drafting Manager. Thanks Tim for this beauty!

10.01.2022 In October 2017, Keith out inspector conducted inspections over two days to comment on the structural condition and ongoing serviceability of aluminium and glass balcony balustrades around 57 units in two residential unit towers. This included hail damage repairs, alterations, rusted fixings and brackets and general deterioration with age. He was able to identify issues with several balustrades requiring immediate repair and provide an overall assessment of repairs and maint...enance required for balustrades around each building as a whole. This was utilized by the Body Corporate committee to consider their options to upgrade, repair and maintain the existing balustrades or to replace them all with suitable, legislation compliant assemblies to ensure sound, long-term, low maintenance performance. If you would like someone to assess your property for similar rectifications, please do not hesitate to contact our office via telephone (07) 3397 7876 or email [email protected]. See more
