25.01.2022 There is currently 39 roads across the region closed, please keep an eye on the below website as it’s updated regularly. It’s not worth the risk with news reports advising 100-150mm possible rain falls today, plan your travel and keep it to essential travel only. Sandbag stations are currently open including Deception Bay SES - if you are traveling from the West you will have to use Deception Bay road as Old Bay Road is closer near the Duck Pond. ... If it’s flooded, forget it....
25.01.2022 A Div2 & Div5 Friday Flashback to 1935! The man in the cart is Harry Adsett (ie Adsett road, Burpengary). Harry owned a property on what was the old highway (now Morayfield Rd) situated 1km up from Burpengary Creek. The property was in the family until the early 1970s. (Traditional Funerals now occupies this land which is on the corner of the big roundabout of morayfield road, aquatic centre & Ulmann road overpass) Harry also ran the Mail Contract from Burpengary to Deception Bay up until 1938 which explains why he is situated outside the front of the Deception Bay Kiosk. The kiosk was originally built and owned by the Wallin Family and was situated on Bayview Tce Deception Bay (on or near where the zesty lemon & mermaids is now).

24.01.2022 I bit of sad news, but I know they will be back bigger and better in 2021!
24.01.2022 As most of you may know I have a keen interest in local history and preservation of the stories and memories of those who shaped our past. A couple of months ago I read a copy of the book Beachmere Then & Now which is a collective history of the last 150yrs. Whilst I was familiar with the history regarding families such as the Bakers, Millmans, Biggs etc I was not until reading this book familiar with Thomas Edwin Bonney. A few weeks ago I nominated and submitted an applica...Continue reading

21.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone! I’m having an absolute cracker of a morning down here at Beachmere! One of Moreton Bays best kept coastal secrets! Not a cloud is the sky and enjoying some sunshine! ...
21.01.2022 I was honoured to present certificates to some of Moreton Bay’s littlest book worms today! ReadUp is Moreton Bay Region Libraries’ signature incentive program to encourage children and young people to read. Reading is an essential skill for everyone. It is the vital foundation of a child’s learning and engagement in their school years and for life.... ReadUp members collect a stamp every time they visit the library and borrow from the collection. This very special award shows that they have been coming to the library a lot, borrowing books, getting stamps, and practising their reading so well done to all the boys and girls!
20.01.2022 Did you know we are set to plant thousands of new trees in 2021 at various sites across Division 2!? Today I was out at one of these sites, a 2.5hectare Koala Tree planting site at Uhlmann road Burpengary East. At this site alone we have planted over 1500 Koala Habitat trees in the past 12 months including the most recent planting of 550 Eucalyptus varieties (see images). ... Since 2015, Council’s Green Infrastructure program has planted nearly 80,000 trees across 48 sites in the region. A further 45000 trees are planned over the next three years! (See image of our Green corridors we are re-vegetating right across the region) This includes tree planting in the following Division 2 Parks: * Uhlmann Road Park * Henderson Road Park * Muriel Court Park * Briston Avenue Park * Maitland Road Park * Symphony Crescent Park * Burpengary Sports Complex * Keswick Court Reserve * Stockport Court Park An interactive map of Green Infrastructure tree planting locations (planned and planted) is on the MBRC corporate website (Link Below) https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au//Compensatory-Tree-Plant All trees are locally native with a majority of trees selected to support local koala populations. The program also installs nest boxes for wildlife. MBRC has more than 850 nest boxes in council parks and road reserves across the region. Moreton Bay Regional Council is the first in Australia to develop and endorse a Green Infrastructure Strategy and action plan. MBRC are the only government in Australia to have a suite of standard engineering drawings for wildlife movement infrastructure. This infrastructure will: * Reduce the risk of wildlife entering road corridors. * Reduce driver distraction, panic & vehicle swerving. * Improve public & wildlife safety by reducing collisions. * Constructs wildlife movement infrastructure including fauna rope bridges, koala underpasses, exclusion fencing, refuge poles and escape poles. * Improves road safety by providing safe and ongoing movement opportunities for wildlife and preventing them from entering the road corridor and crossing the road at pavement level. * Council manages its road network consistent with relevant regulations, policies, strategies and specifications that relate to public lighting. * MBRC Technical Specifications for Wildlife Sensitive Outdoor Lighting - guides fauna sensitive design solutions with the planning and design of council projects. The current total asset spend for the green infrastructure portfolio is $4,639,762.25 of this 31% is Fauna Rope Bridges ($1.4m) and 69% ($3.2m) is Koala Infrastructure. So as you can see we really are leading the charge in green infrastructure across Australia!

19.01.2022 Great review on Div2’s little hidden gem the Beachmere Caravan Park
19.01.2022 Tragically last week 7 baby ducklings were run over crossing Old Bay road opposite Krause Park Burpengary East. In response to this incident and many near misses like it for the ducks, native animals and mammals who call the Duck Pond and surrounding vegetated area home yesterday I had Wild Life signs painted on Old Bay road. These are in addition to the ones Ive had painted on Arthur Drewett Drive and the ones to be painted on Old Bay road where the flood mitigati...on project is currently happening. I have also had Duck Crossing signs ordered to be installed as soon as they arrive and have had the Do not feed the duck signage updated along with the park bench I installed at the waters edge to further educate the community and allow them to enjoy this natural beauty of our region. Thank you to community members who reached out to me after the Duckling incident and thanks to Council officers for taking action so quickly for me!

17.01.2022 PLEASE LET YOUR NEIGHBOURS KNOW - Waste collection services disrupted, but bins will be collected Waste and recycling bin collections will be disrupted next week, with the Transport Workers Union notifying that their drivers will strike on Mondays starting next week (16/11/2020). Moreton Bay Region residents are assured that their rubbish will still be collected, although maybe not the same day. ... It’s estimated the strike action will create at least a one day delay on your usual weekly household waste collection. Your fortnightly recycling collection may be delayed for a number of days but all bins will be collected within a week of the usual collection date. Cleanaway, Council’s waste collection contractor, will operate with a skeleton staff to ensure their waste collection services can continue. As long as you leave your bin on the kerbside, it will be collected. To ensure Cleanaway’s staff can process the increased workload there will be additional conditions temporarily enforced on collections: Overloaded bins will not be collected, the bin’s lid must be able to be closed. Overflow waste on the ground around bins will not be collected. If you bin is blocked by an on-street vehicle or other obstruction, it will not be collected. These rules will be enforced from 4:00am on Tuesday 17 November through to 4:00am on Saturday 21 November. Thank you for your understanding.
16.01.2022 I have some Wheely great news! In case you’ve Bin wondering council offer larger bin options! If you’re sick of wasting your time doing extra dump runs why not upgrade your General and / or Recycling Bins! If you require a larger or smaller bin than those currently at your property, you can contact Council to request an alteration to your bin size. ... Orders to alter bins to a different size are subject to a one-off alteration fee of $56.00 to be paid at the time of ordering. The bin collection service charges on the property rates will also be changed to reflect new bin size. If you’re Wheely interested you can find out more here: https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au//Collectio/Ordering-Bins

13.01.2022 Origins of Remembrance Day Why is this day special to Australians? At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to uncondit...Continue reading

12.01.2022 At todays General Meeting, myself, the Mayor and fellow Councillors advanced Moreton Bay Regional Councils support for the proposed North Harbour marina and canal estate by unanimously voting to submit a draft Interim Land Use Plan (ILUP) to the state government for the 580 hectare site. You can view the video of todays meeting here by skipping to 1:06:40 secs where you can view the debate, questions and councils resolution. https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au//2-Septembe.../Video-Stream You can view the news article here: https://www.moretondaily.com.au//priority-call-for-7700-ne An ILUP is effectively a temporary mini planning scheme for the site under the Economic Development Act 2012 and would accompany councils request for the state government to declare the precinct as a Priority Development Area (PDA). The background reports provided to council for todays General Meeting cited a range of reasons why the North Harbour marina and canal estate could be considered by the state government as a suitable PDA, as the project offers a rare combination of: * A substantial 319 hectare regional open space and recreation precinct, along some 9 kilometres of Caboolture River frontage, reconnecting locals and visitors to the Caboolture River and wider Moreton Bay * A 400 berth mixed-use marina providing specialised marine business services and employment such as boatbuilding, vessel maintenance, and repair activities * A marina-based village incorporating some 600 apartments and 600 detached dwellings with associated community, retail and commercial facilities * An 800 dwelling canal estate including a variety of housing types to showcase exemplary housing design standards, and offering residents access to expansive open space and recreation areas and a marina-based lifestyle * Combined long term economic growth and jobs for the northern part of the Moreton Bay region As council resolved today to request the state to declare the site a PDA, it will now be up to the Minister for Economic Development Queensland, Hon Kate Jones MP, to determine whether to proceed and what the timeframe would be towards commencing development and construction.

11.01.2022 At this Wednesdays General Meeting, Moreton Bay Regional Council will consider advancing its support for the proposed North Harbour marina and canal estate by submitting a draft Interim Land Use Plan (ILUP) to the state government for the 580 hectare site. An ILUP is effectively a temporary mini planning scheme for the site under the Economic Development Act 2012 and would accompany councils request for the state government to declare the precinct as a Priority Developmen...t Area (PDA). PDAs are parcels of land within Queensland identified for specific accelerated development with a focus on achieving substantial community and economic benefits, and to facilitate development on complex and/or large sites. The North Harbour marina and canal estate has been under some form of assessment by the state government and council since the early 2000s. In 2006, the site was declared as a state significant project and, following an extensive Environmental Impact Statement, the states Coordinator General recommended the project be approved in 2009. Following subsequent delays, in December 2018, council resolved to express its support for the state to declare the site as a PDA to enable development to proceed. The background reports provided to council for this Wednesdays General Meeting cite a range of reasons why the North Harbour marina and canal estate could be considered by the state government as a suitable PDA, as the project offers a rare combination of: A substantial 319 hectare regional open space and recreation precinct, along some 9 kilometres of Caboolture River frontage, reconnecting locals and visitors to the Caboolture River and wider Moreton Bay A 400 berth mixed-use marina providing specialised marine business services and employment such as boatbuilding, vessel maintenance, and repair activities A marina-based village incorporating some 600 apartments and 600 detached dwellings with associated community, retail and commercial facilities An 800 dwelling canal estate including a variety of housing types to showcase exemplary housing design standards, and offering residents access to expansive open space and recreation areas and a marina-based lifestyle Combined long term economic growth and jobs for the northern part of the Moreton Bay region Should council on Wednesday resolve to ask the state to declare the site a PDA, it will be up to the Minister for Economic Development Queensland, Hon Kate Jones MP, to determine whether to proceed and what the timeframe would be towards commencing development and construction. The bench now sits proud at the front entrance of the Police station as a constant reminder they DV is never ok. This one was all M...ichelles vision almost 1 year ago to get this and many more Red benches around the Moreton District. 06.01.2022 One thing that there is no excuse for is littering! Thats why last week when I was contacted about the endless amount if rubbish strewn across the Uhlmann road Boat Ramp I decided enough was enough. Today I had 3 extra bins installed bringing a total of 5 bins within 50m of each other ensuring there was no excuse for lazy grubs. You now can not use the boat ramp without passing at least two bins. ... Not that you should ever have an excuse to litter in a marine park area! I am also having signage installed with information about on the spot fines and will up the ranger patrols in the area to fine people who do the wrong thing! If you spot anyone down there not using the Bins please take note of their rego and report them to council so we as a community can ensure our natural waterways stay beautiful and clean! #keepDiv2Clean
