17.01.2022 Spit bucket ?brandy/whisky? Distilled from spit bucket juice collected at Rootstock and yes, its delish! . I talk about this one a lot in my winery and spirit tours, how distilleries often come about from upcycling. Capitalizing from a waste stream. Leftover wine from a winery going into a fortified program. Ugly apples going into cider then distilled to make brandy. Sheeps whey vodka made from the spent whey of a fromagerie. Potato vodka in tasmania coming from ugly potatoe...s that markets wont take but are perfectly fine. Fruit liqueurs made from fruit a farmer cant sell. . 14.01.2022 So proud of these legends for completing their Mental Health First Aid Certificates. . But what is the course and why did we sponsor them through the Cheers Mate brand to do it!? . Through Mental Health First Aid Australia (MHFA) this two day, 12-hour intensive course teaches people simple, practical first aid skills for helping a family member, friend, co-worker or another person who is experiencing mental health problems. MHFA courses teach you how to listen and respond t...o someone with a mental health problem, even if they are experiencing a crisis. You learn how to help someone to access the support they might need for the successful management of symptoms as part of their recovery journey. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing support through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more! We will be providing more workplaces with resources, more knowledge and more power. . What’s more, you’ll be able to actively reduce stigma in your community, by responding appropriately to myths and misunderstandings about mental illness. . By normalising the conversation about mental health we can help so many people before a crisis situation occurs. Simple as checking up on a mate and seeing how they are really going and being vigilant for early warning signs of an issue. . That's a general overview. Ill be posting more about the content and key points from the course and start sharing more and more resources for your workplaces :) . Over the next week, you will be hearing some of the key points from our wonderful participants and what they have to say about the experience. . We hope dry July is going well for all those involved. 09.01.2022 On the mission for better sleep and productivity, I bought a weighted blanket and it was quite the journey! Here is what I found out on da way fam x The weighted blanket has been AMAZING! You do not need to spend over $400 with some of these heavily advertised brands to get the benefits. I got mine cheap from Kogan and was delivered in 2 days for just over $100 :) https://www.kogan.com//null-weighted-blanket-queen-heavy/ If you love it so much you wanna go all-in on the ...mega plush Neptune or Therapy blankets after trying the cheap one, give it as a gift and treat yo self to the upgrade x The aim is 10% of your body weight but even if you smol, go the heavy and bigger options. Its like sleeping on a bed of puppies ears over a rainbow while getting a warm hug of support and love from Bear off Bear in the big blue house x Some other shiz I found on this journey 1. Dear god sleep is important! Life, work, everything is better with some solid sleep (Daaah) 2. Room temperature: Get it cold! Especially in summer, get an air conditioner! (SPEND THE MONEY), close your doors and prep your room for the deep freeze while you make dinner. I got a used one (only used twice with an extended warranty) $2200 portable Aircon system for about $800 on Facebook Marketplace. (Don't do evaporative cooling! Super annoying to maintain.) 3. Get your room dark with blackout curtains at the least. I have roller shutters so it is pitch black. 4. Get it quiet with soundproof doors, sound deadening panels 5. Optimize your room for a single purpose: Sleep 6. Light: Make sure you use tungsten bulbs, not fluorescent or LED and avoid blue lights! If you spend a bit of time on your phone before bed there should be a blue light setting you can switch off. Will help you get to sleep quicker as it causes less stimulus. 7. Mattress and linens: Purple mattress, linen or full-cotton sheets, goosedown duvet inner, featherdown pillows (avoid synthetics). For my vegan friendos, Bambo is the way to go from what I have read :) 8. Biomat infrared bed cover (if you’re obsessive) I decided not to as the benefits were a bit iffy.. oh and they cost $4k.. 9. Routines and habits, I know this is especially hard for hospo, but something as little as no phone when you are in bed is a fab start. 10. Avoid boozing before bed, it screws with your REM/deep sleep. It may help you get to sleep quicker... BUT you are losing in the long run as quality sleep is much more valuable than hitting the hay earlier. Try some breathing techniques (these also help anxiety), breathe out twice as long as you breathe in, do this through your nose and concentrate on it :) Any other pro tips, comment your thoughts x Thanks to those who helped me on this journey <3
