25.01.2022 Chermy Tuesdays! We would like to take the time to welcome our newest member to the BOQ Chermside team, Hamish Kuchel. Hamish will be joining us as a Customer Relationship Specialist. We hit Hamish with 5 questions, just for you to get to know him a little better:... 1. What are your hobbies? Cycling with my family. I have 4 bikes and I enjoy road, mountain and anywhere in between. Camping, bushwalking / hiking, going to the beach, BBQs, picnics and exploring out away from everything! 2. Favourite Holiday destination? Italy, the lakes and beaches there are amazing. Plus the coffee, ice cream and food. Whats not to like! 3. Favourite Movie? Interstellar (The movie) and others by Christopher Nolan. 4. Favourite Food? Italian. I have 2 boys so anything with Pizza, pasta, ice cream and coffee to finish is a winner with us. 5. Background before BOQ? Career break for the last couple years, looking after youngest at home and studying a grad cert part time. Before that commercial lending administration with Triodos Bank (a Dutch ethical bank) in the UK for almost 10 years.

Construction on the bridge began on 24 May 1935, with the first sod being turned by the then Premier of Queensland, William Forgan Smith. The bridge officially opened to a crowd of 37,000 people on July 6, 1940 by Sir Leslie Orme Wilson, Governor of Queensland and named after John Douglas Story, a senior and influential public servant who had advoca...ted strongly the bridges construction. Until it was completed, the bridge was known as various names including the Jubilee Bridge in honour of King George V. During its construction, work sometimes continued 24 hours per day and is the home to 1.5 million rivets (metal pins or bolts). For the thrill-seekers, Story Bridge Adventure Climb will take you to the summit more than 80 metres above the Brisbane River. 07.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday! It might be hard to believe, but Chermside actually had a tram running to it. Back in 1883/85, a horse-drawn tram made the 10 kilometre trek along the Great Northern Road. At the time Chermside was known as Downfall Creek. It only had a blacksmith, a store, a few dwellings surrounded by small farms and a lot of bush.... The Electric tram made its way to Brisbane in 1897, but didnt make its way out to Chermside until March 29th, 1947. The trams took pride of place down Gympie Road until April of 1969 when the Tram was decommissioned in place of busses and cars. Source: http://ow.ly/8PJi50A7voS
