13.01.2022 There are Birds in the air - Red-tailed Cockatoos at Jewel Cave Café Birds on the ground - rare Rock Parrots at the lighthouse and Bird Orchids (pictured) near Jewel Cave There are birds everywhere in Augusta and surrounds right now!

13.01.2022 This afternoon at 6pm, a few nature-loving people who work at Jewel Cave went for a wander down the driveway after work. Learning and Sharing about Orchids and other Plants is awesome with like minded people. We only stopped because the big star in the sky was overpowered by it’s own reflection from the moon, complete with bats flying past! Big thanks to the aptly named Andrew Green. Photo: Leek Mignonette Orchid found literally right at our front door!

12.01.2022 Report on Hoodies at the Rivermouth A Hooded Plover nest at the rivermouth still has 3 eggs with an estimated 10 days before hatching and a Pied Oystercatcher c...hick has been sighted around the point to the north. It’s time for us all to play our part and give these little coastal birds room to raise their families. Hoodies and other shorebirds struggle to find a bit of undisturbed beach to breed and as a result their numbers are declining. You can help by: Keeping a look out for Hoodie families and give them the space they need to raise their young. Walking below the high tide line because nests are usually high on the beach. Keeping dogs to approved dog exercise areas. Reporting Hoodie sightings to your local Parks and Wildlife

Yes, we're ope...n every day.... except Christmas Day! We'd love to see you, and recommend booking ahead, especially at weekends. Hot tip: the first and last tour of the day is usually the quietest! 05.01.2022 Cave diapers and how they relate to cave conservation It's a privilege to enter a million-year-old cave, but with that privilege comes a really important re...sponsibility - conserving and protecting the natural beauty of the crystal wonderland. In recent years we have made some significant progress with the installation of boardwalk diapers, which catch and collect the dirt, lint and other foreign matter from the boardwalk, which is then later collected and removed from the cave. Every three months the CATS (Conservation And Technical Services) team and cave guides vacuum the entire boardwalk system to again remove any foreign matter that has been transported into the cave. This is just a taste of what the team does - much also goes on above ground too. Stay tuned for more information and feel free to ask your tour guide - they're all passionate about cave conservation and proud of the CATS team's work PS - booking ahead is really important right now, as we're running smaller tours. Book your spot on an 'unmissable' Jewel Cave tour - https://www.margaretriverattractions.com/caves/jewel-cave/

04.01.2022 A day of cooking old favourites! Mushroom and Zucchini Frittata at Jewel Cave Café

03.01.2022 Great tour philosophy Hank! Yes, you can see the rare things, but you cannot take other people later on, as usually they don’t understand the gravity of losing a wildflower such as this! It’s all about people enjoying and protecting vulnerable flora and fauna!

03.01.2022 Boranup Bites - Cafe Boranup Recipe Collection is on it’s way! Stay tuned for the book launch (With all that’s going on I’m waiting for it to be delivered before setting the date!)

03.01.2022 One thing we love about Jewel Cave is that we can easily enter the cave without getting wet, thanks to the covered walkway linking the shop and cave entrance. I...t's really handy during the downpours, while the forest is having a well needed drink! So, remember us if it's raining and pouring - you can enjoy lunch or a hot chocolate in the cafe, with a view of the forest, then saunter (rain free) into the cave when the tour begins. We're open every day from 9am with tours departing hourly from 9.30am. Bookings are a very good idea, to avoid a wait! IG/sberry_wong

02.01.2022 Book Update! The Boranup Bites Recipe Collection is with the printer. Just waiting for copy #1 to arrive, to be approved by your truly, then it’s time to print! So many favourite recipes, from Boranup Brownie to Red Burger and Beakfast Nachos in between! Which reminds me... must make brownie today!
