25.01.2022 WHO ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTES TO DOGS IN SHELTERS - SHARED My purchase of a well bred purebred did not sentence another dog to death. My purchase of a well bred purebred did not cause an increase in the number of dogs in shelter.... Me wanting a dog with a predictable temperament from healthy lineage did not cause another dog to not get adopted. My meticulous research and support of only the most responsible of breeders is not the problem. It is not what you should be mad at. It is not what you should be pushing the blame onto. I am not the one who brought these dogs into the world irresponsibly and left them in a shelter. Responsible breeders are not the ones who put dogs into shelters either. It is my home, my life, and my choice of what kind of dog to bring into it. Maybe I needed a working dog, a sport dog, or simply a companion puppy to raise of a breed I enjoy. No matter the reason, my choice to support a reputable breeder did not send a shelter dog to its death. A breeder who health tests, temperament tests, studies pedigrees, proves a dog worthy of being bred, and only breeds when doing so is of benefit to the breed is not contributing to the number of homeless dogs. The number of homeless dogs in the world is a problem, but it is not a problem exacerbated by reputable breeders and those who purchase from them. Your neighbor down the street who refuses to contain his unaltered dogs IS contributing to the problem. Your friend who impulse bought a dog at PetLand IS contributing to the problem. That guy on Craigslist pumping out the trendiest designer mix as fast as he can IS contributing to the problem. Your relative who just HAS to let their dog have one litter so she can experience motherhood or because she’s just so sweet IS contributing to the problem. Your old high school classmate who bought a high energy working breed without taking the time to research its needs and realize it was not a good fit for their household ahead of time IS contributing to the problem. A reputable breeder offers their lifelong support. A reputable breeder would never allow their dogs to end up in a shelter to begin with. A reputable breeder makes it a contractual obligation to return dogs they have produced back to them should you find yourself unable of keeping it. It is understandable to be angry about the number of homeless dogs in the world, but if you take a deeper look, you will find your anger is misplaced. If you take a deeper look, you will find reputable breeders and those of us who purchase from them are just as angry, we are just pointing fingers at the right causes. 24.01.2022 TWO BEERS AND A PUPPY I didn’t write this, but had to share. Interesting thoughts. ( Photo taken at the launch of Pale Tail Beer with our Rowesdale puppies ) ... Two Beers and and a puppy is a test I developed while working on the Esquire story on the American son of a bitch. The test is: In order to find out how you actually feel about someone, ask yourself: Would I have two beers with this person? And: Would I allow this person to look after my puppy over a weekend? Some people are no and no. These people are to be avoided at all costs. Some people are yes and no. These people are two be cautiously trusted. Some people are no and yes. These people are no fun but they make the world a better place for puppies, especially. And some people are yes and yes. These people are wonderful people and your life and work are better for having them in your life. Seek them out. Collaborate with them. Enjoy their company.

23.01.2022 SHARING... NOT MY POST This devastated family’s post about beautiful Lily, regarding plant toxicity Alright folks, this is going to be a very difficult story to tell, but I feel compelled to share this information. This past week has been an extremely difficult journey for us. Our sweet baby Lily got into one of my houseplants and ended up fighting for her life at the emergency vet for nearly a week. She is now home with a feeding tube and a medication schedule that span...s from 7 AM until 12 AM daily. There have been many tears shed, dollars spent, and guilt felt... all because of a $5 plant. I’d like to spread the word about this houseplant because I had no idea when I purchased it from a big box garden center last summer that this little 6-inch plant would become my nightmare. The Sago Palm is a common house plant and landscaping plant native to tropical regions. All parts of the plants are extremely toxic to humans and animals causing liver failure and death from even minimal exposure. All parts includes the trunk, roots, leaves, and small berry-like seeds that can develop on mature plants. I have seen this plant for sale on the shelves at Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot sitting among other harmless household plants with zero warning label attached. ***Update: On Saturday, May 16, Lily passed away in our arms. She fought hard, loved hard, and gave us a couple butt wiggles just before she just couldn’t fight any longer. We loved her so very much and gave her all the love and care in the weeks since the incident we could possibly give. We are truly devastated. If you are a houseplant lover, please research your house plants prior to purchasing. Even if you think the house plant is in a secure location, mischievous little paws may still get into trouble. Feel free to share this story. You may just save a life. https://www.aspca.org//animal-p/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants

19.01.2022 Once again the RSPCA Victoria has been contacted several times regarding this poor defenceless dog and done nothing. It’s not good enough! You receive donations from the public to help our animals. Many of you have well paid jobs and company cars. Is this dog going to suffer any longer under your watch ???

03.01.2022 SHARING ON BEHALF OF MY MANY AMAZING VET FRIENDS. MYSELF AND ROWESDALE MUMS AND THEIR PUPPIES WOULD BE LOST WITHOUT YOU I am a veterinarian. I work long hours. I work hard hours. ... My hair is often pulled back. My clothes are often dirty. I am on the floor to take my time and make my patient feel comfortable. I am standing tall and looking you in the eyes to ensure I will take the very best care of your best friend. I am up early mornings giving 100% of my effort to stand by my oath and do what is right in some of the most difficult decisions. I am up late nights eating dinner on the surgery table giving 100% to come up with a treatment plan when I just want to go home and lay down. I get praised. I get yelled at. I know what it’s like to lose your furry friend so I open my heart and pour it out to treat you how I would want to be treated. Then I put on my best smile and rinse, wash and repeat for the next room. Day in and day out I see suffering animals. Day in and day out I stand witness to the love and bond between people and their pets. Sometimes I have to deliver good news. Sometimes I have to deliver bad news. Sometimes I have to convince you to do diagnostics that you don’t think are necessary just so I can do my job. Sometimes you don’t want to pay and I have to use my detective skills and still try and do the best medicine. Sometimes you give me the reins and ask me to do anything in my power to save your pet when there is nothing left for me to do but pray. Sometimes I have to take a deep breath at the surgery table and tell myself that I am capable. Sometimes I walk out of the clinic feeling like a hero. I am putting my feelings aside on a daily basis to put my oath for animals first. I am a veterinarian. I am a community of veterinarians. I am a community of humans doing our best for animals and their humans. I am standing up to say not one more vet. Be kind to your veterinarian. We worked our whole lives to be doctor but before that we were human and continue to want to be. There is a crisis in veterinary medicine. The CDC reports that male and female veterinarians commit suicide 2.1 and 3.5 times more often than the national average, respectively. The above was copied and shared from a veterinary support group by a friend and I invite you to read it. I also ask that next time you visit the vet, to be kind and maybe tell them thank you. You may end up being be the bright light on a dark day. #notonemorevet #spreadlovenothate #appreciateyourveterinarian
