24.01.2022 We all know someone lazy enough to do this

24.01.2022 PPPLLLSSS don't let your off leash dog go up to a leashed dog. It is super stressful for the dog that's leashed as well as its owner. #tpprescue #yqr

23.01.2022 Just left Walmart where a lady with a basket full of TP asked me what kind of dog I had. I said a service dog. Very rudely she yells what type of service? I sai...d he is a BLD. What's a BLD? She asked as she is allowing my dog to lick her face. With a straight face I said "He is my butt licking dog ( BLD ). I can't find any toilet paper anywhere because of people like you hoarding the TP so he licks my ass clean...... The cashier lost it and walked away from the register. See more

22.01.2022 We often use turkey necks (whole or ground) in our raw diets. Why? They are lean,... Contribute moderate magnesium, Contribute fewer calories to the diet, so we have room to include nutrient dense foods, High calcium to phosphorus ratio Whats the benefit of a high ca:p ratio? plain meat without bone contributes a lot of phosphorus, by using a raw meaty bone with higher calcium and less phosphorus its easier to reach our overall optimal ratio when all foods are taken into account. Note how little you need to feed to meet calcium requirements for a 50lb dog. Thats just over 1lb of turkey necks a week. Its common to think it doesnt matter if raw meaty bones are fed in excess because adult dogs can excrete the excess calcium. This is true in part, but mineral interactions come into play and are much more important than people may realize. High calcium affects the absorption of other minerals that are critical to skin and hair health, immunity, wound healing, fertility, and cartilage repair among others! Our downloadable Core Raw Diet #2 includes turkey necks, turkey, eggs, sardines and fruit and veg! Link in comment.

21.01.2022 5 important steps to raising a healthy, happy, behaviourally sound puppy. 1.) BREED SELECTION: Choose wisely! Not every breed is suited to every home. Re...search the history of breeds you are interested in along with their registered dog group through ANKC rather than focusing on the breeds trainability, energy levels, affection e.t.c. Steer clear of choosing a dog based on looks, a movie role or that one dog you meet at the cafe that is perfectly behaved. There is a reason you dont see farmers choosing Cavoodles to round up their sheep. 2.) FIND THE RIGHT BREEDER: Thoroughly investigate different breeder options. Look for a breeder that: Allows you the opportunity to visit the property and meet the bitch and litter. This allows you to ensure they align with your animal ethics and the breeding bitch is well cared for. Interviews YOU! They may send you a lengthy application form, ask you lots of questions and even try and talk you out of the breed. Take this as a good sign. That breeder cares for the well-being of their pups. Starts to individually help each puppy develop confidence and independence in the world through gentle exposure to sounds, sights, textures, people and environmental changes from 3-8 weeks of age. There are some highly researched and developed programs too that breeders will follow such as Puppy Culture and ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation). Last of all, prepare to wait for your puppy. Good breeders dont breed willy nilly. They take time pairing good genetics, choosing the right time for their bitch to fall pregnant and ensure there is a demand for the puppies. If you have experienced a breeder that ticks a lot of these boxes, tag them below. 3.) BE PREPARED: Puppy proof your house to ensure they cant freely roam around everywhere getting themselves into mischief. Utilise management tools like baby gates, puppy pens and crates to help prevent your puppy from getting into danger (This also helps to build independence.) Try to organise some time off when you first bring your puppy home to work on building up their confidence and contentment in being left alone. Make or buy lots of enrichment and tug products! 4.) PUPPY SCHOOL: Research a local, qualified and reputable puppy trainer and contact them SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. Puppies have a critically important learning period where they absorb information at an alarming rate between 3-16 weeks of age roughly. The earlier you get your puppy booked into puppy school, the more time you have to help them during this period of their life. 5.) EMOTIONAL SUPPORT: Focus more of your energy and time on the emotional development of your puppy rather than behaviours such as sit, drop stay, roll over, beg, shake e.t.c. YES they are important (and fun to train), but despite how the saying goes, you CAN train and old dog new tricks, however rewiring a dogs brain from the suffering of entrenched fears, phobias or anxieties is far more difficult. Areas worthy of attention include: Sounds exposure; unpredictable noises in the environment can develop into noise phobias down the track, especially things like storms and fireworks. Check out the Sound Proof Puppy Training App for more information. Appropriate socialisation and exposure to everything life has to offer. In a nut shell, short, sweet pleasant interactions or sightings with everything you will expect your pup to cope with as an adult. Independence building: Take slow steps and measures to help your pup develop confidence and contentment being left alone. Avoid throwing them in the deep end. Puppies are highly social and intelligent little animals that need a lot of time, training, love and support to grow and develop into healthy and happy hounds. We would surely see a reduction in dogs being surrendered if everyone took the time to research and plan prior to bringing a puppy home AND invested in further training after puppy school. Thanks to Tapua Labrador Retrievers for the adorable photo of their latest litter with our Piper pup being the Pillow. Born to be a support dog.

20.01.2022 CARER HAS BEEN FOUND- THANK YOU TO EVERYONE YOU SHARED THIS POST Tonight we are begging our suppawters for help. Once again our sweet ole girl Precious need...s another carer. We cannot keep moving her around, this much change is no good and it just unsettles her. We are seeking a carer who can commit to fostering her permanently. Yes, she is special needs because she cannot be in a home with others pets or kids, but otherwise she is a cruisey old lady who sleeps on the couch 90% of the day. If you are after a furry companion who is low energy and likes to binge watch the latest Netflix shows, then Precious is the gal for you! We have 24 hours to secure a home for her otherwise she will be heading to the kennels, as she is dog reactive, this will be extremely stressful for her. Please share far and wide and help us find Precious a permanent couch to rest her weary bones. #adoptadane #greatdanerescue #greatdane #seniorgreatdane #fosteringsaveslives #findpreciousacouch #sizedoesmatter

13.01.2022 As there are a number of people asking about how I do nails, this is a video of me doing nails of a sleeping puppy who only arrived in care today (Jasons siste...r). I use the alternative cut - more information about that can be found here: https://susangarrettdogagility.com//cutting-your-dogs-nai/ If everyone did this with sleeping puppies then wed have little issues with adults. Hold the toe, dont pinch it or squeeze it Dont fight with the dog, stop when theyre not happy Use the alternative cut line Use sharp clippers otherwise they squeeze the nail - I like Milers Forge Red handled pliers Millers Forge can be purchased online, we get ours from Two Tales Kelpie Rehoming and you're supporting rescue at the same time. 06.01.2022 Judy, a purebred pointer, was the mascot of several ships in the Pacific, and was captured by the Japanese in 1942 and taken to a prison camp. There she met Air...craftsman Frank Williams, who shared his small portion of rice with her. Judy raised morale in the POW camp, and also barked when poisonous snakes, crocodiles or even tigers approached the prisoners. When the prisoners were shipped back to Singapore, she was smuggled out in a rice sack, never whimpering or betraying her presence to the guards. The next day, that ship was torpedoed. Williams pushed Judy out of a porthole in an attempt to save her life, even though there was a 15-foot drop to the sea. He made his own escape from the ship, but was then recaptured and sent to a new POW camp. He didn't know if Judy had survived, but soon he began hearing stories about a dog helping drowning men reach pieces of debris after the shipwreck. And when Williams arrived at the new camp, he said: "I couldnt believe my eyes! As I walked through the gate, a scraggly dog hit me square between the shoulders and knocked me over. Id never been so glad to see the old girl!" They spent a year together at that camp in Sumatra. "Judy saved my life in so many ways," said Williams. "But the greatest of all was giving me a reason to live. All I had to do was look into those weary, bloodshot eyes and ask myself: 'What would happen to her if I died?' I had to keep going." Once hostilities ceased, Judy was then smuggled aboard a troopship heading back to Liverpool. In England, she was awarded the Dickin Medal (the "Victoria Cross" for animals) in May 1946. Her citation reads: "For magnificent courage and endurance in Japanese prison camps, which helped to maintain morale among her fellow prisoners, and also for saving many lives through her intelligence and watchfulness". At the same time, Frank Williams was awarded the PDSA's White Cross of St. Giles for his devotion to Judy. Frank and Judy spent a year after the war visiting the relatives of English POWs who had not survived, and Frank said that Judy "always provided a comforting presence to the families." When Judy finally died at the age of 13, Frank spent two months building a granite and marble memorial in her memory, which included a plaque describing her life story.

06.01.2022 Hey all you cool cats and kittens, want to know how you can make a massive difference in a big doggos life ?!? Have you considered becoming a foster carer? We... are currently seeking foster carers who have solid fencing 5/6 foot, no cats or pocket pets, some homes with no other dogs, foster homes with medium to large mellow male dogs. We have hundreds of foster applications on file but whenever we filter them to find ones suitable we either don’t get a response or the carers are no longer available. Yes, we are strict with where we place our fosters but it is extremely important when dealing with giant breeds we do the right thing by the dog, the carer, their familiy and their other pets. So if you are able to help us out, please fill out a foster application. We have quite a few incoming that all have different needs. So fill out a foster application and our hardworking lemmings (I mean, volunteers) will try and get back to you over the coming days whilst we coordinate everything in the background. Foster app: https://aus01a.sheltermanager.com/service #adoptadane #greatdanerescue #greatdanelife #greatdane #adoptdontshop #sizedoesmatter #fosteringsaveslives

04.01.2022 Today my husband and I with our two guide dogs had another near miss with an electric car. We were crossing a side road and it came in off the main road and pas...sed very close in front of us. If it’d been a petrol or diesel engine, or if it’d had a sound emitter fitted, we’d have heard it, but, apart from the sound of the tyres on the road, it was virtually silent. I am a confident guide dog handler but I can honestly say that silent electric vehicles scare me. I fear that it will take serious injury to a blind person, or even worse, death, before any meaningful legislation is put into place. If it happens to me or someone that I care about, I’ll be in court and I won’t rest until we have justice. So please, if you drive an electric vehicle, switch on your sound emitter. After all, you wouldn’t drive at night without your lights on, it’s the same thing. Many people will like this post but please don’t. I ask anyone who would have hit the like button to please hit the share button instead and pass this far and wide. I fear for our lives and those of these two amazing dogs.

04.01.2022 Shared , very important info Just a word about crate training: I am a trainer in Northern California, where we have had two days of firestorms. I had 17 dogs ev...acuated to me from the fire zone. All dogs are crate trained - my training facility was supposed to be safe and out of any danger. Suddenly we got a prepare to evacuate order!! 17 dogs to get out - 17 lives that I can not lose - 17 loving companions - 17 dogs who trust me and need me to save them All dogs were crated and staged in an area with AC - trucks pull up, and the entire crate is lifted into the bed of the truck. Repeat until all dogs are loaded because we only have one chance to get this right. Although there are chaos and confusion, all around the dogs have a sense of security in the crate and know this is their safe place. Strangers lifting and moving them are safe from perhaps a fear bite. This morning we are safe - all the dogs, people, and property So if you ever have someone who resists crate training, tell them this story. We could not have gotten out 17 dogs without them being in crates. See more
