19.01.2022 LONG POST AHEAD Hello all, As many of you will have seen across social media in the last 24 hours, our operations as a COVID-19 quarantine Medi-Hotel will ...cease as of this coming Sunday the 29th of November, ready for us to re-open as normal on Monday the 30th. Before we get into the details, there are a few things we would like to share ahead of our re opening: First and foremost, we would like to thank all of our beautiful hard working staff, the unreal teams of SA Police, MSS Security, SA Health and Australian Defence Force members who worked tirelessly with us to run this project safely, effectively and smoothly across the last few months. In addition to people working on site here with us, our suppliers and distributors deserve special mention for their hard work in keeping us running on a daily basis. Special thanks goes to South East Laundry, The Distributors Mount Gambier, Cleanaway, She’s Apples, Collins Court Butchers, Pick Avenue Bakery and Deli, Sugar and Spice, Red Rooster Mount Gambier and Bakers Delight Commercial Street. Their support has been invaluable to us in offering the general public a safe place to quarantine in order to try and move ahead with their ‘normal’ lives despite the pandemic. Next, we would like to again reiterate the message delivered in the announcement by the Limestone Coast Health Network yesterday that despite having over 200 guests quarantining with us, we did not have a single positive case on site. If you think about it simply, this makes us no different to any other motel that has been housing travellers and tourists these past few months- we just looked a little bit different! Moving forward after Sunday, you can imagine that some of our policies and practises will be different. SA Health team members have given our house keeping staff training that has built them into to the most meticulous and diligent cleaning staff we have ever seen. It goes without saying that we will work together with SA Health to ensure the property is in tip top sparkling clean shape before we welcome back our dearly missed long time guests and travellers. As we mentioned earlier, there was never any positive guests here with us, but we learnt from our lovely infection control nurses that you can never be too clean! Lastly, we would like to give ourselves a pat on the back. We’re sure most would understand that taking on a project like this is no small task, especially in a small town where word travels fast. We provided an invaluable asset to SA residents, families relocating states, cross border community members, FIFO workers, people with unwell and dying family members and other essential community members who could not safely quarantine in their own homes. We provided beautiful quality meals 3 times a day, answered phones on a 24 hour basis and built lovely relationships with some truly beautiful people who came to us in their time of need. It was genuinely a pleasure getting to know all of the people who stayed with us, even if it was over the phone at meal times or in a big Facebook group chat! Undeniably we played a major role in keeping South Australians safe while still allowing people to continue about their life as normally as best they could. Despite the chatter around town and online, we are extremely proud of our work and would do it again in a heartbeat if it meant we could be another part of the solution to living with COVID-19. Please keep us in your thoughts and consider supporting us again some time in the near future. Kind Regards, Kim, David, Bev, Barry and the team here at Southgate Motel
