25.01.2022 A LETTER FROM DEBRA BYRNE Before I could speak I sang and before I walked I danced and I know I was Born To Perform. It’s all I ever wanted to do. I had no thou...ghts of fame but I did have dreams of being part of a company of people creating a story a musical a performance. Our family lounge room was my stage. I loved the musicals of the time Oklahoma, Carousel, My Fair lady. I knew all the words, played out all the parts and made up the rest. I have been performing since I was ten years old on Brian and the juniors to Young Talent Time and 46 years I am still going strong. I have enjoyed and endured a very colourful life and career and am now willing and able and happy to pass on my experience to all who believe they were Born to Perform. My aims are to create an atmosphere of safety respect and creativity. To inspire and encourage, to nurture what is naturally your own unique style of expression. It is not the best singers or dancers who get the roles but the best performers. I want my students to know that. It takes all shapes all sizes all types to make up a story a musical a performance.

21.01.2022 throughout my 47 years as a performer I have witnessed the best and the worst that is tolerated in dance and performing arts schools. I make a promise to all who come to Born to Perform. I will ensure that no student, parent or carer be subjected to abuse of any kind. no yelling, no humiliating tactics, no inappropriate behaviour physical verbal or emotional. at Born to Perform we will teach the best of all aspects of performance. Discipline, technique, Respect, Understanding and mostly to love to perform for no other reason other than you LOVE to.

12.01.2022 Recently I have been told that I don't teach enough technique. This was regarding a three year old child. The class is three times the fun and fun is the best way to learn.Let kids be kids. In fact let us all be kids at least one day a week! At a dance concert I witnessed a mother/dance teacher berate her little child (still in nappies still drinking from a bottle not two years old ) because the child did not want to go on stage and wanted to take off her costume. And if she... could speak probably wanted desperately to go to bed. I saw this child sobbing. It was distressing and disgraceful. I wrote a letter to the director of the school. This happens ! It's abusive. I will never tolerate such vile parenting or teaching. If you want to have fun and feel the joy of performance Come to my school X See more

07.01.2022 our aim is for at the end of each term there be a presentation from all classes. this will be an opportunity for us to work with an audience and feel their part... of the performance. by the end of the year we hope that our students will have gained confidence by having already presented themselves before their friends families and peers. my very personal aim is to make the end of year concert a time of fun. I have survived many end of year dance concerts and I know the stress emotionally and financially on the families can be overwhelming. all performers love a costume and this will be a part of the celebration but I promise we will be thoughtful and frugal. I see no need for children to wear makeup and will ensure that all costumes and material be age appropriate. love Debra x See more
