24.01.2022 Reducing the vegetation around your home is one of the most important things you can do to keep your home safe in a bushfire. You need to register any burning off of cleared grass, weeds or undergrowth. You can do this online at https://firepermits.vic.gov.au from 31 October. #FAW2020 #PrepareActSurvive #CFAOnlineOpenDoor
24.01.2022 HISTORY WEDNESDAY 1940's The First Station... Initially, the first Boronia Fire Truck was stored wherever a garage close to town could be found until the first fire station was opened on Dorset road in late in 1943. An outer station was also formed in Station Street Bayswater which housed a hose reel. Two months after being formally registered, Boronia Fire Brigade had its first major fire - the laundry fire in Bayswater. In 1944, the CFBB was replaced by the Country Fire Authority (CFA). Additionally in this year the Brigades Chevrolet was replaced by a Ford pumper. In 1949 all equipment that was based at the Bayswater out-station was transferred to the main station on Dorset Road, Boronia.
24.01.2022 Keep leaf litter, shrubs and any other fuels to a minimum under trees on your property. This will help to stop a fire from reaching the treetops, which will reduce embers and the fire intensity near your home. #FAW2020 #PrepareActSurvive #CFAOnlineOpenDoor
24.01.2022 Boronia Fire Brigade officially welcomes our new tanker to Boronia. The new tanker replaces the F350 light pumper. This new truck has been purchased by the brigade using money raised by the community, and also through funds from the VESEP program. Boronia Fire Brigade would like to thank the community for their support and looks forward to being able to service our community with the new tanker.
24.01.2022 HISTORY WEDNESDAY 1960's More Work, More Appliances... In 1962 Boronia was committed in major bushfires around the area including The Basin, Kinglake, Hurstbridge and Warrandyte. In 4 days during this period 454 houses and 8 lives were lost at bushfires in the area. Boronia's pumper was replaced in the early sixties. After an initial dispute regarding the pumper allocation, the brigade withdrew its services. Soon after, the dispute was settled and the brigade took delivery of a 1942 International K6 pumper. The latter part of the 60’s saw Boronia attend major bush fires in Gippsland (1965), Upwey and the Basin (1968) and then again state wide in 1969. 224 houses, 22 lives and 26 schools were lost through out the state of Victoria in this 5 year period. In 1968 the Brigade were again at work to build another appliance; a Ford Trader tanker. The CFA initially did not accept the tanker into its fleet as it was driven by a diesel engine, however today all fire fighting vehicles have diesel engines.
22.01.2022 Keep trees, overhanging branches and shrubs to a minimum near your home, particularly around and under windows. A big clean up before the fire season can make a huge difference to the safety and survival of your home in a bushfire. #FAW2020 #PrepareActSurvive #CFAOnlineOpenDoor

17.01.2022 Everyone in Victoria who lives near dense forest, bush, grassland or the coast needs to prepare their property for bushfire. Below are some tips from Captain Koala on preparing your property: Roof gutters - Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Leaf litter in guttering is a ember ignition point. Keep grass short - Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Mowing and slashing can greatly reduce fine fuel levels.... Leaves and Twigs - Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Less fuel = less fire. Prune shrubs -Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath. Prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back branches - Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space. For more information on preparing your property please see here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare #CKDoesSummerPreparation #LessFuelEqualsLessFire #PlanAndPrepare #CleanUpBeforeABushfireDoes

07.01.2022 Making informed decisions is vital to your safety during a fire. Now is the best time to understand your fire risk and get prepared. This week, talk to your family, friends and neighbours about the fire risk where you live and make plans for what you’ll do on hot, dry, windy days. Make sure you know where to check Fire Danger Ratings (Vic Emergency website and app). Over summer, you’ll need to check the ratings daily to understand the fire risk in your area. Remember, as rati...ngs increase, so does your risk from fire. It’s up to all of us to stay informed by using more than one source of information, understanding the three levels of warnings, what they mean and what you should do. On hot, dry, windy days, fires will start and spread quickly. The best way to protect yourself and your family is to leave early. If you live in an urban area near grasslands, walk at least two streets back if a fire starts. If you live two or three streets away from grassland and a grassfire starts, stay where you are. Grassfires are unlikely to spread into built up areas. Don’t drive, visibility may be poor, accidents are likely, and you could block emergency services.
