24.01.2022 Youthful inexperience is one thing, but this is just getting silly now. In his enthusiasm to mimic the electoral material issued by Cr Addis in Maling Ward, this candidate couldn't manage to change "councillor" to "candidate" - now it's on his website too. He wants the City of Boroondara to declare a 'climate emergency' but can't be bothered printing his glossy brochure on recycled paper. I guess at least the content was #recycled! 23.01.2022 What a great showcase of local #Boroondara musicians and vocalists. https://youtu.be/w5_UeV63bV4

23.01.2022 An interesting outcome on appeal - 50 hours community service is much less severe than six months in #prison! Either way, not a smart move and should serve as a warning to others considering similar actions. #COVID19 #quarantine

23.01.2022 Power lines - unsightly aren't they? A few constituents have contacted me after reading an election promise by one of the #BellevueWard candidates in the City of Boroondara elections. The candidate has promised to "place power lines underground in Bellevue Ward at no additional cost to residents." Sounds appealing at first... The cost? Undergrounding power in #Boroondara would cost around $4,000,000,000. Yes folks, four BILLION dollars. The annual operating budget is $2...50 million. What's more, the power lines aren't even council assets - they belong to United Energy and CitiPower and Powercor Australia. 23.01.2022 Important update! With demand for parking high across Boroondara again, we’ll be reinstating parking limits and ticket machines from Monday 11 January 2021. We... relaxed parking restrictions in certain locations back in April 2020 as part of our COVID-19 pandemic response, so it’s great to see the demand return and our neighbourhoods buzzing again. Reinstating and enforcing limits again will ensure vehicle turnover in high traffic areas and help maintain balanced access for all. Make sure you start checking the signs when you park to avoid a fine. Read more: www.boroondara.vic.gov.au//bo/parking-limits-be-reinstated

22.01.2022 There's no escaping it. Businesses are doing it tough in Victoria. Whilst these announcements will go a small way to helping some businesses, they don't begin to address the havoc wrought upon employers in this state by mismanagement of #COVID19. Deferral of the 2020/21 #payrolltax for instance, simply pushes back the due date for a liability (up to $485,000) to a later date. What Dan Andrews ought to do is scrap all #payrolltax for 2020/21 for employers with a payroll under $10 million. That would be real, tangible and worthwhile assistance, to help businesses stay afloat and preserve jobs. The present plan is all icing and no cake

22.01.2022 As the #councilelection draws closer, it's a great time to reflect on what I've achieved as the Bellevue Ward Councillor. As part of the Shopping Centre Improvement Plan adopted by the City of Boroondara, the Harp Village Shopping Centre was upgraded in 2016. It's just another way Council supports local #business and underpins our sense of #community. Authorised by Jim Parke PO Box 2, KEW EAST 3102

22.01.2022 It's great that shops at Greythorn Central are open again and ready to welcome shoppers. Today the Greythorn Traders' Association put on a display of colour, decorating the shopping strip along Doncaster Road. With more than 80 retailers, there’s something for everyone at Greythorn Central. Please drop in and support our local businesses to make sure they're around for the long-term. #Boroondara #Greythorn #BalwynNorth #buylocal #BuyLocalForLocals

21.01.2022 Great news - today's the day. The many #playgrounds in our beautiful parks in the City of Boroondara are open again. I'm not sure whether parents or children are more excited, but remember to play safely and follow the #COVID19 rules.

20.01.2022 So over the weekend, I received a number of calls from residents in #NorthBalwyn and #KewEast asking how many sitting Councillors there are for #BellevueWard in the City of Boroondara. We have single-member wards, not multi-member wards, so of course, there's just the one. I'm not sure what the candidate who labelled his brochures "Independent Councillor for the Bellevue Ward" was thinking. Perhaps it was naiveté or perhaps it was a deliberate attempt to mislead voters. That is a question for him! Authorised by Jim Parke PO Box 2, KEW EAST 3102

19.01.2022 The Victorian Department of Health & Human Services has notified of three public exposure sites in Camberwell - all on the afternoon of Wednesday, 30 December 2020. They are Crown Nails; Tao Dumplings and Fu Lin Asian Grocery. Further details are available at: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/case-locations-and-outbreaks #COVID19 #Boroondara #Camberwell

19.01.2022 RSPCA Victoria is reminding pet owners of their legal and moral obligations to look after their animals, after Inspectors uncovered a young pet dog in a severe ...state of emaciation earlier this month. An Inspector visited a property in the south-east suburbs in response to a report of concern for a dog’s welfare. On arrival, a four-year-old German Shepherd named Bobby was found acutely emaciated and in ill-health. After successfully negotiating the dog’s surrender, Bobby was taken to RSPCA Victoria’s Burwood East clinic where the veterinary team provided emergency care and pain relief. Bobby was emaciated, covered in ulcerative lesions with secondary infection and presented with swollen hind limbs. He had acute muscle wastage and was in severe pain, with one ulcer over his left hip creating a hole so deep that it extended down to the joint capsule. RSPCA Victoria’s vets did all they could to alleviate the dog’s pain and suffering, however given his dire condition and poor prognosis, the difficult decision was made to humanely euthanase him. RSPCA Victoria Inspectorate Team Leader, Stuart Marchesani, said it was unacceptable to leave an animal to suffer in the manner Bobby would have experienced. This is gross neglect that has gone on for months and months, and Bobby would have been in significant pain and discomfort for a long time before we found him, Mr Marchesani said. All pet owners must take full responsibility for the animals in their care and, if they are no longer able to provide adequate care, we urge them to talk to RSPCA Victoria about their options. Anyone who has concerns for the welfare of an animal is encouraged to contact RSPCA Victoria on 9224 2222 or at rspcavic.org. Imagery from this case is too graphic to display on our social media channels, but can be viewed on our website here: rspcavic.org/media/latest-news

19.01.2022 It's good to see that sole traders are finally being considered in the relief measures. Many local businesses in the City of Boroondara are doing it tough, so this is good news #Boroondara #COVID19 #smallbusiness

16.01.2022 New #COVID19 restrictions in place from today. #Boroondara

16.01.2022 After putting the economy of Victoria into an induced coma for the past few months, it's very disconcerting to witness every relevant Minister from the Premier down, disavowing any knowledge about who made the decision to use private security guards. Surely the people of Victoria deserve open, accountable government. That Jenny Mikakos MP has resigned as Minister for Health (not from parliament), is cold comfort to the hundreds of thousands of employees and business owners facing financial ruin due to the bungling. It does nothing to ease the suffering of the families and friends of the 782 Victorian #COVID19 fatalities. Authorised by Jim Parke PO Box 2, KEW EAST 3102

15.01.2022 Disappointing that a few selfish people continue to have such a devastating effect on the rest of Melbourne (and consequently, on the whole of Australia). The ratbags who flagrantly disregard the rules and the rebels in search of a cause, who attend whatever #protest is going, continue to wreak havoc on the silent majority. Some things never change! #COVID19 #Boroondara Authorised by Jim Parke PO Box 2, KEW EAST 3102

14.01.2022 Local organisations in #Boroondara have been stepping up to provide support to those who need it most during the challenging #COVID19 pandemic, by shifting from face-to-face programs to providing meals, care and emergency relief packages and other support.

14.01.2022 There's no denying that most of us are sick of #lockdown. Surely by now people should understand that travelling across town to attend a child's party isn't a valid reason to be away from home. Thankfully, the City of Boroondara now has only 4 active #COVID19 cases. With just over 500 active cases in Victoria, we are on track to stave-off this dreadful virus that has already taken 781 Victorian lives. My thoughts are with the 58 Victorians in hospital and their families and friends. Authorised by Jim Parke PO Box 2, KEW EAST 3102

12.01.2022 Four Victoria Police caps and badges have been conveyed to Canberra for the National Police Remembrance Day ceremony on 29 September. They represent the four Vi...ctoria Police officers who sadly lost their lives in the line of duty in Kew on 22 April, 2020. Four touchstones will also be placed at the National Police Memorial wall in Canberra in their honour. Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, this year’s Victorian Police Remembrance Day service in Melbourne will be streamed on YouTube from 10am, Tuesday 29 September, in lieu of a traditional memorial. The online service will honour and remember Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King, Constable Josh Prestney and Constable Glen Humphris who died in the line of duty in Kew, as well as the lives of another 19 Victoria Police officers, Victorian Public Service staff and Police Chaplains who died in the last year. See the National Police Remembrance Day (Victoria) Facebook Event for full details on how to watch the service online on 29 September https://bit.ly/32GeEEj #NPRD2020

11.01.2022 A good news story highlighting the importance of automated external #defibrillators (AED) at workplaces, community and sports clubs and public facilities. Whilst the City of Boroondara has rolled out some AEDs, we need to improve the availability of these life-saving devices as our community emerges from the #COVID19 lockdown. 08.01.2022 An interesting article about the mandatory wearing of #masks in the battle against #COVID19. Following the unilateral decision by Dan Andrews to impose a #curfew, the banning of #faceshields and the continuing requirement for masks is yet another call made without health advice. Many residents I speak to in #Boroondara just can't understand the reasoning. Authorised by Jim Parke PO Box 2, KEW EAST 3102

08.01.2022 This evening I moved the following motion in urgent business at the Services Delegated Committee: 1. The Mayor write to the Premier, the Hon Dan Andrews MP and the Treasurer the Hon Tim Pallas MP, acknowledging the State Government’s additional relief measures to support Victorian businesses, but calling on the government to: a. Waive (rather than defer) all payroll tax for the 2020/21 financial year, for all employers with a payroll less than $10 million; and b. Expand the b...usiness support fund by making an additional grant of $10,000 for employing businesses in metropolitan Melbourne. 2. Officers send a copy of the letter to the Victorian Liberal Leader - Michael O'Brien MP, other parliamentary party leaders and all members of State Parliament representing residents of #Boroondara. 3. The Mayor write to the Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison (ScoMo) MP and the Treasurer, the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP, advocating for a special extension for Victorian businesses, of the present #JobKeeper payment levels of $1,500 per fortnight per eligible employee, until 31 December 2020. The motion was CARRIED by a majority of 9 votes in favour with (rather inexplicably) 1 Councillor voting against. #jobs #smallbusiness #COVID19Vic

06.01.2022 Today is National Police Remembrance Day, where we remember police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their community. This year has been a very difficult one, with the horrific #bushfires, then #COVID19 and of course, the tragic loss of four police lives in Kew on 22 April 2020. As a community, we rely so much upon the bravery and dedication of members of Victoria Police. For them danger is ever-present and often not immediately identifiable - as ...was the case with the 'routine' traffic stop in Kew. As a community we should embrace and support the police in the difficult and often-challenging duties they perform. Many police have been subjected to appalling conduct by motorists, protestors and others, during the restrictions imposed to manage the #COVID19. Perhaps today, as we reflect on the great, selfless service, we need to seize the opportunity to show greater respect, tolerance and support. Without their efforts, society would be in a very dark place. #police #Kew #community #Boroondara Authorised by Jim Parke PO Box 2, KEW EAST 3102

03.01.2022 Doggone! Our friends from the Animal Justice Party AJP Victoria are circulating election material in Bellevue Ward in the City of Boroondara to promote their candidate. The brochure is headed "Victorian Council Elections: 24th October 2020" The problem is, to cast a valid vote, the completed ballot must be in the post before 6.00pm on Friday, 23 October 2020. So if you wake up on Saturday, 24 October 2020 to vote, you'll have missed the boat (or the vote, in this case). ...Ballot packs are being posted to voters this week, so they'll probably start arriving this Friday or next week. #Boroondara #BellevueWard #election #voting #Balwyn #BalwynNorth #Kew #KewEast #peoplenotpolitics Authorised by Jim Parke PO Box 2, KEW EAST 3102

02.01.2022 An interesting discussion about daylight saving. My view is that the Premier's decision for it to proceed as normal is probably the right call. #Boroondara #daylightsaving

01.01.2022 I received this in today's post from Vic Councils in recognition of my 15 years of service as a Councillor - the past eight years at the City of Boroondara, coupled with seven years at the (then) Toowoomba City Council. I look forward to serving the next four-year term, once the poll is declared by The Victorian Electoral Commission next month.
