25.01.2022 I'm so excited to let you guys in on a secret.. Boss Dog Training now stock a range of Aussie Dog Products dog toys! :o You may have heard me mention these guys before and with good reason. ... These toys are some of only toys on the market that are able to stand up to Flick (she's a power chewer). See individual photos for further info and pricing. These are available for pick up or delivery only.

25.01.2022 The Boss Dog household recently welcomed a new (temporary) family member. Bailey is staying with us for some extended training to curb his cheeky habits - jumping up, nipping, chewing things he shouldn't.. Priority number one has been crate training as previously he took over his owners bed.... For a dog that uses pushy behaviours (such as jumping and nipping) to get attention, setting clear bedtime rules is important to establishing leadership and respect. Happy to report that Bailey has taken crate training in his stride. Good work little man.

24.01.2022 Sweet Jane recently had her final lesson and I'll miss this gentle girl. We have seen a great improvement in her loose lead walking over our lessons. While there is still some work to be done, her parents now have the right tools to implement to continue to reduce her over excitement when she sees other dogs on her walks. ... Good girl Sweetie!

24.01.2022 Training your dog doesn't always have to be about structured practice sessions. Have a think about what incidental training you can fit into your day. You could:... - practice food manners at meals times - enforce the back door boundary as they come inside after a play - have them drop or go to their bed while you prepare dinner - work some commands into your walk Every little bit adds up, even if it's not a scheduled training session. Here are some pics of my guys practicing their drop step aways on our walks (you'll have to zoom in to see Flick!).

24.01.2022 Look familiar? I've lost count of how many toys Flick has done this to Thankfully Aussie Dog Products have a great range of high quality, durable dog toys that stand up to Flicks chewing.... You can find some of the range in my shop: www.facebook.com/pg/BossDogTrainingAus/shop/ Shoot me a message if you're keen to treat your dog to a toy that will last.

24.01.2022 COVID-19 update I'm pleased to let you know that I have been given the green light to start lessons again - with some conditions. I am not yet able to do in-home lessons, so they are to be outdoors, in public and we must adhere to social distancing rules. ... For some of you this means we can pick up where we left off, we will just need to change locations. For some (who have not started or have reactive dogs that we are not yet ready to train in public) we will have to wait a little longer. I will be limiting the number of clients I see each week and will be attending to my existing clients before taking on new bookings. I will reach out to you individually over the next little bit to chat about restarting our training. Flick is ready to get back to work!

23.01.2022 How are you all going? Are you adjusting ok to our new (temporary) way of life? Have been keeping up your training or even teaching your dog something new? ... Share your wins below or let me know what problems you're having so we can try to work through them together. Bonus points for photos because I'm missing all your dogs terribly!

23.01.2022 Washington had his second lesson over the weekend and he was an absolute star. He was so quick to pick up the back door boundary that we even started working at the front door. He looks a little sulky with me in this photo because he's not overly keen about having to wait nicely until he is asked through the door... but he waited anyway. Good work Wash!

22.01.2022 I know that as we near Christmas a lot of you will be looking for a little gift or treat to pop under the tree for your dogs. I urge you to rethink the most common - and most dangerous - pet treat that is offered this time of year, raw hide. Aside from the choking hazard and risk of internal blockages, you also need to be aware of the chemicals that are involved in the process of making raw hide.... If you wouldn't feed your dog bleach or glue, then raw hide is not for you. Check out the video below and I'm sure that you will be passing on the raw hide this Christmas too. If you're after ideas for safer and healthier options for your dogs Christmas present, feel free to drop me a comment.

22.01.2022 My first lesson back over the weekend was also the last lesson for my little buddy Buckley. This little guy has been an absolute pleasure to work with and I'll miss that sweet little face Buckley's mum was happy to report that he has settled into being a much calmer dog with training. ... Good boy Buckley!

20.01.2022 When it comes to what your dog can eat from your Christmas lunch or dinner tomorrow, there really is a naughty and nice list. -The naughty list- Chocolate & lollies contain theobromine, sugar and artificial sweeteners which can lead to serious illness or even death.... Fruit mince includes grapes and raisins which can be fatally toxic to dogs. Keep the Christmas pudding and fruit mince tarts well out of your dogs reach. Pork products are usually quite high in fat and often high in salt. The increased fat can put your dog at risk of developing pancreatitis. Cooked bones can splinter, causing damage to your dogs teeth and mouth - but worse, can cause internal damage such as ruptures. - The nice list - Your dog can enjoy left over chicken, beef or turkey, just trim any excess fat off first. Cooked vegetables are a great healthy addition to your dogs dinner, just avoid onions. Fresh fruit is also a good option for your dog, particularly if it's a warm day and the fruit is cool from being in the fridge. My dogs love apple and mango. Eggs are a great flavour and nutrient booster for your dogs meals. If you've poached too many eggs for Christmas breakfast or boiled too many to go with the salad, your dog will be happy to help with the extras!

20.01.2022 Last week Maggie had her fourth session with me and I couldn't be prouder of how far this gorgeous girl has come. She is a lot calmer now when visitors arrive at the house, she's learnt to behave on lead which means that her humans want to walk her more often and she now waits patiently out of the way while people walk out the front door (see video in comments). Good girl Maggie!

19.01.2022 To all of our wonderful clients and supporters - we wish you a merry and safe Christmas. We hope you have a fantastic day with friends, family and of course, your dogs.

19.01.2022 Due to the heightened restrictions surrounding COVID-19 I am no longer taking bookings. I will be reaching out to current clients over the coming days to discuss your options. Stay safe during this challenging time.

18.01.2022 As we brace ourselves for another scorcher of a day, please consider how you're going to care for you dog during this heat. If you are able to keep them in an air conditioned area, please do so. Have plenty of cool, fresh drinking water available for them.... Have some towels ready to soak in cool water and drape over them or let them lay on. And please, it goes without saying, don't leave your dog in the car.

18.01.2022 Check out this pretty girl! Mishka started training with me over the weekend and was such a delight to work with. At 5 months old, her family are getting ahead of her training early to ensure that their gorgeous girl doesn't turn into a little terror.

18.01.2022 This little spunk had his first session this week. This is Dusty, he's a 7month old German Shepherd x Border Collie and is super affectionate. He made sure I got plenty of cuddles and smooches :p Dusty needs a bit of guidance so he learns not to chew, dig and jump up at the back door.

17.01.2022 Bear had his final lesson over the weekend and I'm super pleased with how far this gorgeous guy has come. Previously he would charge into the house at any opportunity, jump up on his family and pull on the lead. He now waits calmly at the back door to be asked in, the jumping is almost completely gone (soon to be a distant memory!) and he now enjoys loose lead walks.... Excellent work by Bear and his family!

16.01.2022 I just want to take a moment to talk about fireworks ahead of tonight's festivities. Without fail, every time there are fireworks there are dogs that escape and unfortunately some of them never make it home. If a dog is stressed by a situation (such as the noise that comes with a fireworks display) cortisol rushes through their body causing them to go into fight or flight mode. ... For a lot of dogs, this means fleeing their yard. The safest place for your dog to be during the fireworks is inside the house. If you are at home with your dog, try to make the fireworks a non-event. Play their favourite game with them while you have the noise of the fireworks in the background. If you can't be home with them, leave the TV or radio on (though not on a channel that will broadcast the fireworks!) and preferably have the doors and windows closed to help dampen the sound getting into the house. Make sure they have access to a safe space to hide if they feel they need to - this can be their crate or the laundry, wherever they would normally use as their go-to safe place. Flick uses my office as her safe space when she's feeling overwhelmed. Have a happy and safe New Years Eve

16.01.2022 In his second lesson, Bear started working on the back door boundary. This is an important one for the family as he likes to push his way into the house whenever someone comes in through the back door. This is the first go with his mum handling the lead (he had a few goes with me and other family members).... You can see that after only a handful of repetitions he is already getting the hang of waiting until he is invited in. Good boy Bear!

16.01.2022 Are you tired of having to tell your dog not to jump up on people? Or trying to hang on to their collar to stop them bolting into the house when you open the door because they won't 'stay'? You know they heard you, but they choose to ignore you.... Maybe you feel like you've tried everything and you're lost for ideas on what to try next? We use a treat free training method that sets a clear expectation that your dog should do what you ask the first time you ask. Contact us today to learn more or to arrange your consultation.

16.01.2022 Buckley started his training with me this week and is already shaping up to be a model student! He does have a bit of an advantage though... Buckley has already had experience with the Alpha training method and I really just need to give him and his mum a refresher. Once we have him back up to speed with the basics we will be working on developing recall and correcting his habit of barking at people walking by the house.

15.01.2022 Ok.. so I'm little bit in love This is Washington, he's 1 year old mastiff cross. I'll be working with his family to address his jumping and his pushiness.... We had our first lesson over the weekend and already he is off to a great start. See more

15.01.2022 Just got home from a lesson with Buckley where he absolutely knocked it out of the park! We practiced his sit step aways and drop step aways under the distraction of kids on the playground, multiple off lead dogs, walkers and barking dogs nearby. He nailed it!

10.01.2022 Washington had his final lesson recently where we brought together everything he had learned and put it to practice with the distraction of having Flick nearby. Previously Washington had been overexcited and would pull toward other dogs and not listen - but he showed us that he was able to remain calm, pay attention and hold his commands. So proud of the progress I've seen with this guy!

09.01.2022 Happy Monday folks! Are you working hard, or hardly working? I'm putting my new trainee to work

09.01.2022 Check out this big beautiful boof! I've recently started working with Gus and his family to help get rid of some unwanted behaviours. He is pushing around his doggy sibling, reacting to other dogs when walking and helping himself to things off the kitchen bench (not hard to do when you're as tall as the bench!).

08.01.2022 Sweet Jane tends to get a little over excited around other dogs, particularly when out for a walk. To help her with this we spent some time this week working on acceptable greetings. We also had her practice her obedience commands with the added distraction of having Flick close by. ... She's learning to listen even when highly excited. Check her out holding her sit step away even with Flick just behind her!

08.01.2022 Black Hawk have issued a recall on a number of their kibble products. If you feed Black Hawk please check the best before on the bag against the list of recalled products (click below for further details). If yours is on the recall list please stop feeding it immediately and contact the store you purchased it from.

08.01.2022 Dusty didn't want to work today. Nice try buddy, I can still see you.

06.01.2022 In a scene that is all too familiar this time of year, I've just picked these little buggers off Rory. Grass seeds can be hazardous to dogs as they can get embedded in the skin, causing irritation, infection and in some cases can require surgery for removal. Be sure to check your dogs regularly and remove any grass seeds.... Don't forget to check between their toes and in their ears too. See more

06.01.2022 *Only two appointments left available for 2019* The end of the year is almost here and I only have 2 appointment slots left available. If you want to get your dog training started this side of New Years shoot me a message now to lock in your booking:... - Tuesday 24th Dec, afternoon - Tuesday 31st Dec, morning Summer promo pricing will apply to these dates if booked as part of a package.

04.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone.. And happy birthday to Flick! This smart, sassy, stubborn girl is 7 years old today ... Many of you have met Flick during our lessons, some of you are yet to meet her. I thought I would take her birthday as an opportunity to introduce you to her a little more. Flick absolutely loves the water. The beach, the river, a mud puddle.. she will swim anywhere and everywhere! She is absolutely toy crazy and would play fetch for hours if you would indulge her. Flick loves fruit and veggies. In fact, she loves most foods. Kangaroo is about the only thing she won't eat. Her nicknames include Moo, Madam (when she's being a bit cheeky!) and Boss Dog. Yep, Flick is the namesake behind Boss Dog Training

04.01.2022 Earlier this week I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Sweet Jane. At only 6 months old she is already quite a well behaved girl. Her family contacted me as she tends to get over excited on walks and pulls on the lead, gets distracted sniffing & snacking and barks at other dogs.... Check out how pooped she was by the end of our first session - struggling to keep her eyes open.

03.01.2022 Meet Bear. Bear is a 2 year old Murray River Retriever who jumps up on his family and on the back door. After just the first session his family have already started to see improvement in his jumping.... I'll also be helping Bear with some leash manners for calmer walks and working on him having quiet time to just chill inside with his family.

03.01.2022 This post is a little bitter sweet... Today I started training with the ever so affectionate Winter, though with new restrictions in place I now don't know when we will be able to continue. Winter thinks that she is the boss of the house & can do as she pleases and as you can see from her handiwork in the back yard, that often leaves a mess for her family to clean up! ... For those playing along at home, YES that is toilet paper and we did have a stern talking to her about how now is definitely not the time to be making toilet paper confetti!
