14.01.2022 Maori Medicine heals Ancient Kauri A Northland woman says a recent experiment she conducted to treat kauri dieback has had remarkable results. Lynn Butterworth..., a student of Mori medicinal expert Tohe Ashby, tested the possibilities of using to rongo Mori to treat the tree disease. Butterworth has been practising traditional Mori medicine for two years now and has been investigating a possible treatment for the devastating disease. "In 2017, I was doing a level 4 rongo course with Tohe and we were talking about kauri dieback and we knew there was something quite not right with our trees," says Butterworth, "He had some rongo for me to use and we went through the steps of how to prepare it and how to apply it." Ashby, who is an expert on kauri trees and understanding the Mori tikanga around treating the disease explains how they formulate the medicine. "We gather the fat of the whale and use also the bone of the whale, we mix both elements and then apply it on the bark of the tree. Within this process, we deliver our karakia." Butterworth hopes to encourage a Mori point of view in treating the disease where mainstream methods may not be working. ALDEN WILLIAMS/STUFF The disease, formally known as Phytophthora taxon Agathis, is described as a "microscopic fungus-like plant pathogen". "This actually has worked for healers for thousands of years, not just this particular rongo in question but all traditional medicines, theyve been around for thousands of years for a reason." A possible treatment for kauri dieback has only recently been discovered. During their research, the duo found a strong connection to Mori mythology and the relationship between tohor and kauri. "Within the stories about the whales, they know when the kauri trees are sick so they connect with each others frequency. The whale comes to shore to aid the kauri". Both Butterworth and Ashby hope to get their treatment scientifically tested. 13.01.2022 3 Years Ago today we where contracted to Remove the The Normanby Hotel Fig Tree This was one of the most well known Fig Trees in Brisbane with a lot of Historical value and personal Value to a lot of people, I still remember seeing all the old timers and Younger people watching & Crying as We where Removing this Beautiful Tree One of my Greatest Un answered Questions of how & Why this Gentle Giant ended up this way and why it failed, And one of the reasons why I went on to Study my Diploma In Arboriculture so I can try Help try stop this again from happening to other Historical and much loved Trees ,Luckily it was a really wet day on the Sunday that it failed so no one was in the Garden bar under this tree at the time or it would have been a horrific tragedy much worse then just an iconic Normanby Fig tree failing in all its glory..
