16.01.2022 D a y 5 ~ Mindful Living @botanicaeditions M e d i t a t e Years ago I decided to become a mini-triathlete (they really should have been called baby triathlon. The distances were tiny) and one thing I decided when I started out, My body simply wasnt built to run! ... I resisted running of any kind. Which wasnt a smart strategy if I was to become a triathlete! Start with One! To reframe my relationship with running, my incredible personal trainer at the time had me start with 1 minute on the treadmill. It was a soda. A walk in the park. I could even say, enjoyable! So much so, I wanted to keep running more. She wouldnt let me. slowly, slowly, we worked up to 5 minutes on the treadmill, 10 minutes and eventually, 30 minutes, 60 minutes around the running tracks in nature and parklands. Come race day, the run was simply a fun mediative and enjoyable part of the competition. When you begin with MEDITATION, start with 1 minute. Then when you are ready, extend to 5. Meditating 22 minutes twice a day may eventually come. But first, start with one!. Here are five positive sleep techniques: + Practice going to sleep doing a loving kindness meditation. It will shift your focus and energy. + Falling asleep to the 4-7-8 breathing techniqueinhale for a count of four, hold for a count of 7 & exhale for a count of 8 . is a beautiful way to slip in to a dream state. + When first falling asleep or tossing around with insomnia, work your way through the alphabet listing someone you are grateful for under each letter and send up a tiny prayer to each of them. Circle the alphabet a few times if you need. + When you wake up in the middle of the night, play possum. Dont move a muscle. And concentrate on your breath. Hopefully youll never fully wake up & slip right back to sleep. + Another lovely wake @ 3 AM technique is to put a hand on your heart, or simply listen to the sounds of the night. So how would you like to feel for the rest of the challenge? Many are offended when we use the F word. Others have spiralled so far in to uncomfortable, unpleasant, struggle or overwhelmed, they have forgotten what a world might look like (or Feel like) without these biochemicals bouncing around their body. Today pick a word, any word, a word that is positive and the way you would like to FEEL for the rest of the challenge. First thought / word is often the best because it generally comes without any cognitive analysis or judgement. But if the concept of choosing a feeling for the next two weeks sends you in to fight-flight, shutting down your amygdala and completely emptying your brain of any thought. Make it up! Choose a feeling you have hear others enjoy and adopt that as your own. Fake it til you make it is a well known concept in in neuroscience [it just has a fancier title with a really long name] that helps you become the change you would like to BE!
