25.01.2022 WORLD HERITAGE VISITOR CENTRE FOR BILPIN? WE HOPE SO! In 2004, the State and Federal Governments allocated funding for a "Blue Mountains World Heritage Visitor ...Centre" to be built in the heart of Bilpin. We understand nearly $800,000 was spent on architects, consultants and reports for the preferred site on Bells Line of Road (near Glenara Road). Unfortunately, the main construction funding was reallocated elsewhere and the project was never completed. The winning design by Architect Lindsay Johnson can be found at www.lindsayjohnston.net.au/#/blue-mountains-visitor-centre/ #BackToBilpin coordinators, Lionel Buckett and Sarah Richards met on the original site this week and are now calling on all levels of Government to assist in resurrecting the project after the devastating summer fires. In fact, they have put together a comprehensive document outlining the history of the idea. It is a bold request, but this Centre would be a wonderful tourist base for the region, provide an education resource for school children, be the local offices for NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and act as a staging area for future bushfires or major events. We are now going into the next stage of recovery and need to look long term to the economic viability of the Bilpin, Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains regions. Our aim is to encourage Stuart Ayres, Robyn Preston MP - Member for Hawkesbury, Simon Birmingham, Marise Payne, Mayor of Hawkesbury and all other relevant decision makers to take the time to look at this wonderful concept and assess potential funding options. The shop is open everyday from 8am to 5pm.This weeke...nd we will have available for picking the nicest, crunchiest, sweetest Royal Gala apples @ $5.00/kg; and Red Delicious apples $5.00/kg; black capsicums (very rare), green capsicums $6.00/kg, zucchini and squash $6.00/kg; eggplants $2.00 each; chillies $12.00/kg; broccoli $6.00/kg, cherry tomatoes $12.00/kg. Pls bring your own carry bags with you. We accept both cash and eftpos. Entry fee to farm is $5 each adult and $3 for children between the ages of 3 and 15.
