15.01.2022 Well welcome back to the CZ 2020-21 season, lets hope this season will bring us more fishing than last season. So with Wollongong GFC kicking off the season wit...h Round 1 this Saturday, there are a couple of things to make clear. Because WGFC is a one-day tournament all boats entered into the tournament can fish both Saturday and Sunday of CZ, boats not entered into the tournament can select one day to fish being either Saturday or Sunday but not both days for their points to count. Good luck, tight lines, and stay safe

13.01.2022 FADs Safely Retrieved Just As Wild Weather Hits! The wild weather that hit much of the NSW coast last night is an unfortunate reminder that the warm water fishi...ng season is rapidly drawing to a close. Coinciding with this change of season, weve started retrieving the FADs network for annual winter maintenance. Luckily, the FADs from Port Stephens to Botany Bay were safely retrieved just before the strong winds and big seas hit. Retrieval of FADs from Sydney south to Eden will take place next week, as weather permits. And were planning to retrieve the north coast FADs from Tweed Heads to Forster in mid to late June. DPI has kept the FADs network on station for as long as possible to provide late season fishing opportunities. Stay tuned and well keep you notified of retrievals as they take place. The good news is that were already gearing up for next season, with 2020-2021 FAD deployments scheduled to start taking place from September onwards. For more info, check out https://bit.ly/2ZpLSX7. The FADs program is another great example of your fishing fees at work!

11.01.2022 We can confidently say that fishing is definitely still allowed, just use youre common sense and make sure youre still practising the social distancing rules!... Heres what the fisheries had to say: The community is being asked to stay home to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. If you choose to fish it is vital you follow guidelines around social distancing, and restrictions around gatherings of two or more people. Those aged over 70 are also being urged not to leave their home except for exercise. It is also important to understand that all fisheries rules and regulations continue to apply including bag limits, possession limits and size limits. Fisheries officers continue to monitor compliance." Our stores are still open and were also mailing online orders and phone orders out. 10.01.2022 Have you ever wondered why its normal to catch big yellowfin tuna around tropical islands when water temperatures are high, whereas off Sydney we fish for them... when the water is cool as they generally arent around except during the autumn and spring months? It must be something to do with migration, but why would big yellowfin prefer such different water temperatures? Dr Julian Pepperell explains why Australias biggest yellowfin tuna are caught in its cool south-eastern water, yet the biggest IGFA world records are fish from tropical water off Mexico. 10.01.2022 Unbelievable...

10.01.2022 Mulloway Recaptured For The Third Time! A school sized mulloway originally tagged and released in the Shoalhaven River by an unnamed angler on 31 March 2020 ...has been recaptured. for the third time! Including the original tag and release, the fish has now been caught an unbelievable four times in just 186 days. The recapture summary is as follows: Originally tagged in the Shoalhaven River on 31 March at 80cm. Recaptured and released 32 days later in the Shoalhaven River on 2 May at 81cm by well-known local angler Guy Jamieson (pictured). Recaptured and released 93 days later in the Shoalhaven River on 3 August at 85cm by an unnamed angler. Recaptured and released 61 days later on 3 October north of Wollongong at 85cm by another nameless angler. Overall, the fish spent 186 days at liberty and travelled more than 50 nautical miles (~90km) between release and recapture locations. These multiple recaptures highlight that mulloway are resilient to catch and release as long as good handling techniques are implemented. It also gives researchers valuable insight into movement patterns of the species. It’s particularly interesting to note that this one fish has made the day of four different anglers. The old adage that some fish are too good to catch just once certainly seems to ring true in this case! The Game Fish Tagging Program is another great example of your fishing fee at work!
