25.01.2022 "When a child is burnt, Fire and Rescue NSW are often one of the first on the scene. They are there on the frontline, as a crisis breaks helping to get children to safety and provide the first aid care they need. But Fire and Rescue NSW know that for these children, this is only the start of the journey. Their treatment and recovery can then continue for months and years down the track. That’s where our Burns Unit comes in. For many years, Fire and Rescue NSW and our Burns Un...it have worked very closely to support each other’s invaluable work and raise awareness about burns safety and today, came together once more to host an Open Day for our patients and their families. Held at what is affectionately known as Fire Station Number 2, the Open Day gave our patients the opportunity to have a true ‘firefighter’ experience, sitting in the trucks and seeing the firefighting and rescue equipment up close, while also giving them the chance to chat to the firefighters about the critical work they do to keep communities safe. While at the Hospital, the team from 400in4 Charity Ride also presented the Burns Unit with a cheque for $84,783, which they raised during this year’s ride. This incredible donation takes the overall support of Fire and Rescue NSW to well over $3.3 million and will go towards helping to continue funding treatment and rehabilitation for children with burns injuries. Thank you to everyone who attended today’s special event and of course, to everyone from Fire and Rescue NSW for making a difference #forsickkids. Stay tuned for the photo album tomorrow." - Westmead Children's Hospital

25.01.2022 This image shows why we tell kids and adults why it’s important to get down low and go go go if there was a fire in your house. The smoke layers are thicke...r and substantially hotter higher up. You have a better chance of escaping a fire by crawling along the floor to an exit. #frnsw #frnswmedia #preparedforanything See more

17.01.2022 It’s getting cold! Don’t put yourself or your family at risk, be careful when turning heater on for the first time and keep everything in the house ‘a metre from the heater. Turn off heaters and electric blankets before leaving home or getting into bed... Clean lint filters in the clothes dryer before or after each use Don’t overload power boards Keep candles away from curtains and extinguish them before leaving the room Don’t use LPG cylinders for cooking or heating indoors as they can leak and the gas is both toxic and highly explosive Ensure you have a working smoke alarm

The two-year-old Labrador and canine handler T...im feature in a cover story focusing on different types of service dogs. Joining forces with Tim last year, Gandalf took to his training like a wizard and is now helping investigators sniff out the cause of fires across NSW. #PreparedForAnything Photos by Nick Cubbin/Australian Geographic.

11.01.2022 With winter approaching and the rains set in, we’ll all be using our clothes dryers more frequently. This is a timely reminder on how to prevent a clothes dryer fire . Clean the filter, ensure adequate air flow around the dryer, don’t leave the dryer operating when you are not home.

03.01.2022 Macey is just one of many reasons why the 400in4 Charity Ride was created. Now in its 14th year, with your support, firefighters have raised $750,000 with ALL proceeds donated to the Burns Unit. Remember:... 01.01.2022 A fire can take hold in 3 minutes. it only takes seconds to prevent one. Before you go to bed tonight, check that your electric blanket is in good working order. Frayed or damaged cords can start a fire. For more fire safety advice visit fire.nsw.gov.au/winter. #PreparedForAnything #AnyoneAnywhereAnytime
