24.01.2022 Cirillo Vincent Grenache 2019 By his own admission Marco Cirillo doesn’t follow trends and marketing’s not his strong point. But there is no doubt this down to earth, 9th generation winemaker is making some of the most underrated and under-priced wine in the Barossa - especially this one. http://bit.ly/greatgrenache Video courtesy of Wine Australia.

22.01.2022 Toby and Emmanuel Bekkers' star is on the rise. Made in tiny quantities, this dynamic couple's stunning wines are the equal of many more famous (and expensive) names. I reckon it won't be long before they become hard to get. http://ow.ly/wBR850xdcbq

21.01.2022 I drink Champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty. Lily Bollinger. Xavier Bizot's great aunt was famously passionate about the sparkling stuff - now he and wife Lucy Croser continue the legacy in the Adelaide Hills. Read more here http://ow.ly/t5im50x4lUC

18.01.2022 Almost nowhere in the world can match the Côtes du Rhône at its best. Rive Droite, Rive Gauche Côtes du Rhône Rouge 2017 fits this bill perfectly. It’s a great mid-week tipple - fresh, simple and delicious.

16.01.2022 Given the cool climate in Austria, it’s no surprise that white grapes dominate, but you may be surprised to learn that Austria also turns out a few decent reds. Using biodynamic principles in the vineyard and minimal intervention in the winery, Gerhard Pittnauer was named Winemaker of the Year by Falstaff magazine in 2014 - the highest accolade in Austrian wine. Fresh, bright and so quaffable - the most delicious wine you'll have, made from grapes you've never heard of.

14.01.2022 "delicious... a bit of a no-brainer really. Fiona Beckett, The Guardian. This cheeky little French red is one of our most popular. https://www.bottleandglass.com.au/rive-droite-rive-gauche-c

11.01.2022 Montepulciano (mon-ta-pull-chyano) is a wine term that confuses drinkers. It’s the name of the town in Tuscany, where the famous red wine ‘Vino Nobile de Montepulciano’ is made from Sangiovese. It’s also the name of the second most planted red variety in Italy (after Sangiovese), where the wine it produces is known as Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Montepulciano is thought to be generally a workhorse grape, as Ian D’Agata put it in his excellent ‘Native Wine Grapes of Italy,’ though he also suggested it had thoroughbred potential - Eric Asimov. http://ow.ly/OF6e50wXXws

09.01.2022 While the pitfalls of working from the home office are well documented, the benefits are also plenty. Conference calls in pyjamas and the constant company of a loyal dog being just a couple. But we know you're dealing with other things at the moment, so we've put together some care packages, which we're calling our Working From Home Series. They're six packs, each a mix of our favourite quaffers, which we can send out to you via our courier's contactless delivery. Of course you can still have a rummage through our online stock and pick your own, but these 6-packs will give you some delicious and quick ordering options. We hope you enjoy them.

07.01.2022 Alsace is a bit of a climatic anomaly, grapes shouldn't really ripen here. But the Schlossberg and Rosacker Alsace Grand Cru vineyards have been producing excellent wines since the 15th century...

05.01.2022 I find it hard to find value in Burgundy and it’s one of the reasons I'm drinking less of it, even though I’d like to be drinking more.

05.01.2022 Our office manager, hard at it during today's tasting.

04.01.2022 ‘Top winemaker starts own project on the side and trumps everyone.’ This is the ‘new’ Barossa and these are the undiscovered gems you wish for as a wine drinker.

04.01.2022 Beautifully perfumed with hints of peach, bright citrus and heady, rich brioche notes, then to a palate braced with a fine acidity, clean, focused fruit and a layered textured finesse. 97 points, Platinum Award, Decanter World Wine Awards 2020. https://www.bottleandglass.com.au//a-very-special-sparkler/... Daosa Blanc de Blanc 2015 was recently awarded Platinum at the 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards. To put this in perspective, of the 16,500 wines submitted only 178 achieved a Platinum award. The Daosa Blanc de Blanc 2015 was awarded 97 points, making it both the highest scoring Australian sparkling wine, and the only one to achieve a Platinum Award, also placing it ahead of many big names in Champagne. Impressive.
