15.01.2022 Workbench Wednesday. This opal ring has come in for a new opal triplet and new bezel setting. An opal triplet consists of 3 parts: a solid black base, a thin slice of opal and a domed clear top that serves to magnify and protect the opal. Over time, moisture can find its way in between the sections causing the stone to look foggy and dull, as can be seen in the original opal. Because it isn't possible to repair a triplet when this happens, a new opal is needed to restore the ring. The original bezel was also very worn, so I made a full new setting with an inner seat for the opal to sit in

04.01.2022 Workbench Wednesday. A unique handcrafted ring made to suit our customer's stunning yellow sapphire. He pans for gold nuggets and loves their rough texture. I recreated this effect by creating a molten ring in silver, which was then cast in platinum. I handmade an 18ct yellow gold bezel setting to house the sapphire. The contrast of both the colour of the platinum and gold, and the smooth polish of the setting against the matte roughness of the band, were deliberate design ch...oices. The shoulders and halo were set and then sent back to me to be assembled and have the final centre diamond bezel soldered in place.
