20.01.2022 Absolutely loved being an audience member for an amazing show of some of the insanely talented musicians we’re lucky to have in the Northern Rivers. The dream team of Emily Lubitz, Angie Hudson and Freyja Hooper supported by @just_dannicarr and @ash_bell_0 in the beautiful @brunswickpicturehouse ... such a treat!
16.01.2022 Very happy to be a part of the only dose of Splendour we'll get this year The legends at DMA'S, I OH YOU, Hype Republic and Splendour in the Grass let me set up in the hole in the ground that should be the FOH position at the Amphitheatre and we'll be streaming to you from 4:30 AEST tomorrow (Friday). Hit the event page for more info.... Very sad to not be sharing this time with all of the production crew, bands and punters that make Splendour such a family reunion - but glad we get to beam this bit of the vibe to the world
15.01.2022 An open letter to the Queensland Chief Health Officer. Dear Dr. Young, Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of the stellar job you have done in working to kee...p Queenslanders as protected as possible through the global pandemic. Your efforts and those of your department colleagues and the medical profession in general have doubtless saved many lives and allowed significant areas of Queensland and significant numbers of the Queensland population to operate in a close to normal manner whilst our friends and relatives in other parts of Australia and the world have endured lock-downs and significant impositions on their liberty and livelihoods. So, thank you. Now to the meat of my letter. I work in the Arts and Culture sector and I am struggling to understand why you and the Department of Health are adamant that we are not able to open our theatres and spaces to more than 50% capacity. This is despite the enthusiastic embrace of several sporting codes and the concessions that now allow strangers to sit side by side in sporting venues. Over the past weekend we have seen spectators queuing in blatantly un-COVID-safe ways and QLD Health appear to stand silently by whilst those same spectators, stand, cheer, yell and scream, sing the national anthem and team songs in unison, abuse or cheer umpires and players across the boundary fences and move freely to and from catering and alcohol outlets or the public amenities. The sporting codes reality is a massive contradiction to the reality that confronts theatre operators in Queensland where we are permitted 50% audience capacity, providing we follow your restrictions. Restrictions that include requesting audiences don’t stand to applaud or shout out ‘Bravo’ during a performance, separating performers and their audience by a minimum 4 meters because, I suppose, performers project more sputum than football players or the baying crowds that surround them. Or how about the need to separate individual choir members when they rehearse or perform yet allow crowds of thousands to stand side by side and sing the anthem and club songs out loud in unison. Dr. Young do not get me wrong. I love that sport is back in our lives and I applaud the administrators and managers, the broadcasters and the back-room operators who have managed to sway your opinion and enable them to restart their industries. But I cannot for the life of me understand why what is good for them, can not be good for the industry where I make my living. This industry, like others is in total crisis, structural damage is happening, and that damage will accelerate unless we can return to some form of normal operations. We need our audiences back in significant numbers and only you can enable that to happen. We are a responsible industry. We have COVID-Safe industry plans and venue specific plans and I put it to you that our audiences, which usually number between 10 and 2000 are far more containable, controllable and amenable to directions than the tens of thousands you are currently permitting into the major sporting venues. So I ask you to please explain the rationale, please educate us on why it’s good for Sport and not for the Arts and Culture, why sports men and women and the industries that support their product are free to operate in one way and theatres and cinemas and the industries and individuals that support and rely on them are not. Dr. Young, I don’t want special attention, I simply want equality here. I don’t begrudge any industry that is emerging faster than others from this crisis, I just ask for you to apply the same tests to us all. With respect.
15.01.2022 I’ve been utterly disgusted by some revelations in the past few weeks to do with different levels of abuse by males in the entertainment industry towards women. The fact that things like these are still occurring in general and can happen so rampantly and borderline publicly saddens me so much about our society. Please read this article and I will have more to say about this soon.
06.01.2022 Very happy to have this enduring reminder of one of the best bands ever and a collective force of some of the best people around Thanks Harry @sameskinrecordings for the vinyl and to Kit, Byron, Guy, Eli and Narayan for letting me a part of the amazing musical journey that was @pltsmusic Without question some of the best recordings and live shows I’ve ever been a part of and generally some of the best people I’ve been lucky enough to spend time with.... Thanks for introducing me to JP and for having me Engineer while #nickdidia produced - I learnt a lot from both of them There are a small amount of these records left and I can’t recommend enough owning the last chapter of their musical journey - I’m hugely proud to have my name on the sleeve. Sad for PLTS to be over but excited for the next chapter for all involved! Really hope to see you all soon @ Byron Bay, New South Wales
