17.01.2022 Marlin fever is real and I hope you catch it - One of the most amazing sights in the whole ocean is watching hordes of striped marlin chase schools of sardi...nes and mackerel to the surface. The baitfish school together for protection, the ones on the outside are the first to get eaten, so naturally everyone wants to be in the center. The result is a living, moving ball of fish, with marlin and often sea lions in pursuit. - World class footage filmed by @. This woman is an award winning producer, underwater photographer, author, and motivational speaker Traveling as a scuba diving instructor around the world with a camera in hand, she has the privilege of this being part of this scenes. - The pedratory fish push the bait to the surface, then attack it from below. The frenzy attracts frigate birds that swoop in from above. If you spot a collection of frigates in Mag Bay between late September through early December, they are most likely on striped marlin actively balling bait. As you get closer, you can spot the marlins fins slicing the surface. Its simply incredible to witness. - This same phenomenon happens in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, with sailfish. The boats look for frigates close to the surface, then run to them. Often there will be a half-dozen boats circling one bait ball. There are so few boats in Mag Bay that there is never any fighting over bait balls. - Baja Peninsula on the Pacific coast of Mexico has special places like this one and their relative inaccessibility has allowed them to remain as those rare gems that time has virtually forgotten. We did not approach thi...s whale at close range at all. In fact, it was jumping out of the water when we first found it so we were giving it even MORE space than usual. After a breach, this whale disappeared and popped up directly behind us. I had no choice but to shut the boat down. 2. From that point on the whale circled us at close range for almost an hour, checking us out, spyhopping, playing, splashing, rolling, and waving its tail. 3. You have to respect the power of these whales. With that said, they have truly incredible body control. One wrong lift of its tail and look how easily it could have smacked our boat, but this whale knew exactly what it was doing, and we were never in any danger at all. This was 100% play behavior. (We are getting near their breeding season and social behavior like this is more common during this time) 4. What would have been dangerous is trying to drive away from this whale while it was so close to us. The whale acted this way towards our vessel because the motors were off. It trusted it could act the way it acted because it knew we would not run it over. Finally, while I was torn sharing this, I decided to post this for a couple of reasons. The main thing is with Humpback Whales being such a social species, it’s inevitable that close encounters like this will happen with another boat, so I felt a post explaining how these situations go might help keep both the whale, and the humans on that future boat safe. It is crucial that you keep a respectable distance (recommended 100 yards in the US) from whales for the safety of both people and the animals, but sometimes the whales have other ideas and will come straight over to your boat to play. The crucial thing is to turn off your motors and to not panic and try to drive away. 12.01.2022 Tweed Reef Deployment Underway! NSWs newest offshore artificial reef is being deployed in 25m of water 7.5km south-east of the Tweed Heads river entrance!... The reef consists of a massive 10m-high steel fish grotto (illustration attached) which forms the centrepiece of the new structure. A total of 32 concrete modules, each standing 5m tall, will surround the fish grotto. This new reef which joins other reefs already deployed at Sydney, southern Sydney, the Shoalhaven, Port Macquarie, Merimbula, Newcastle and Wollongong is designed to increase fishing opportunities for recreational fishers. This state-of-the-art structure is a fantastic example of recreational fishing licence fees at work built using funds from the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust to showcase how fees are being re-invested into projects, Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall said in Tweed Heads recently. The Tweed reef weighs in at 834 tonnes and has been carefully designed to provide generations of local and visiting anglers with enhanced opportunities to target a range of key species including snapper, mackerel, cobia, pearl perch and mulloway. Given the reefs location in sub-tropical Tweed Heads, it will likely also attract seasonal visitation from northern species including mangrove jack, big eye trevally and various emperors. With luck, the Tweed reef will soon start producing some great fishing action. It should really hot up as soon as the first push of warm water heads south with the East Australian Current over the next few months! This is yet another great example of your fishing fees at work!

08.01.2022 For the first time in over 20 years my long rigger Lure yesterday was NOT a Lumo Sprocket...... but pretty close... Been trialling Peters new Offset tow poi...nt 3D printed Bagwan. My original interest in this range was to get something a little more active on my long rigger on calm days, particularly chasing Blues. This lure did exactly that!! It certainly takes more tuning and positioning than the old faithful but the result is explosive! And whilst our fish yesterday ate the other rigger I can see the offset tow point being a weapon in flat weather!
