25.01.2022 ORIENTEELING? This group of Eden Marine High students were participating in the Character Strengths Geocache activity, during the Bega Valley CDAT Leaders Challenge Day when they spotted something unusual! They called it in on the UHF radio and the conversation went something like this. ... Students: This is Group 3 calling Doug Me: Doug receiving. Over Students: We are near the road and there’s an eel in the grass. Over. Me: An eel? Aren’t you near the road? Are you sure it’s not a snake? Over. Students: It’s definitely an eel. Over. Me: Stand by. I’ll come and check it out. Over. Students: Copy that. It was an eel! Read all about their fascinating movements, including on land, here http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2004//06/2044390.htm Eden Magnet

23.01.2022 HELPING OUR HOODIES! The South Coast NSW Shorebird Recovery Newsletter (see link) is a great resource for everyone that wants to help these beautiful birds. Recently students from Tathra Public School attended two "Helping our Hoodies" workshops at Bournda EEC, led by teacher Julie Donne. Shorebird Recovery Co-ordinator Sophie Hall-Aspland dropped in via Zoom to answer student questions and and brought a very nice friend who needs to be kept away from shorebirds and their n...ests! The students then used iPads and Slow-mation software to create some short animated films. The film featured in the newsletter was made by some clever kids from Eden Public School in other workshops and we will share the Tathra PS efforts soon! Thank you to all the teachers and parents who support students to attend these valuable workshops! https://mailchi.mp//threatened-shorebird-news-from-souther NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service #ShareTheShore #EZECNSW Environmental and Zoo Education Centres NSW NSW Department of Education Australian Association for Environmental Education, NSW Chapter Far South Coast Birdwatchers Inc.

22.01.2022 Bermagui Public School K-1 NEST BOX BUILDERS Last Thursday, during #nationalbirdweek these wonderful Bermagui PS students built nest boxes with help from Bournda staff. The students showed great skills and focus for the entire session. Retired Bournda EEC teacher and Bermi resident, Ross Fackerell did a HUGE amount of work creating the flat packs that the students assembled. Thank you Ross!!... The boxes, designed for eastern rosellas will be painted and installed at the school and in fire affected locations. Thank you to teacher Julie Kirby for her organisation and letting us work with her fabulous class! #birdsneedhomes NSW Department of Education Environmental and Zoo Education Centres NSW Australian Association for Environmental Education, NSW Chapter Sapphire Coast Learning Community of Public Schools Far South Coast Birdwatchers Inc. 21.01.2022 ATTENTION: Quaama Public School EXPLORERS You may have noticed there is a bit of moisture around this morning. A few hints for successful exploring in the wet:... 1. Wear a raincoat or bring an umbrella 2. Wear light wool or synthetic garments rather than cotton 3. Bring dry clothes including spare footwear to change into 4. Be prepared to have FUN because splashing around in the wet is one of the joys of outdoor living! We’ll see you at Bournda for a great day in the Park!
20.01.2022 We know that the current abundance of water in NSW is an extreme event. Globally fresh, clean water is an increasingly scarce commodity for many people, affecting their quality of life.

17.01.2022 The 'Let's Get it Sorted' waste team at Wyndham Public School have found a great way to deal with their school's food scraps. They currently have 31 eggs incubating and a chook pen that is almost ready to house the chickens when they hatch. The Wyndham Waste Warriors think that feeding chickens rather than landfill is the way to go! 09.01.2022 These fabulous students from Wolumla Public School are the 'Bin Busters' - and they are doing amazing things at their school with waste as part of the BVSC 'Let's Get it Sorted' waste program. The students presented their work to BEEC last week - and what amazing work they have been doing. The students have made a film, a powerpoint presentation, a game, a book for Stage 1 students and some brilliant rhymes. They have also organised soft plastic recycling and FOGO collection for the school. Way to go Wolumla Public School!
