23.01.2022 Vintage beauties Have a look at these new ‘old ‘ beads I’ve received......... ... An incredible small selection of Deco style French Jet (black glass) tube beads, some fabulous lime green and white pressed glass beads , signed W.Germany and some more Cherry Brand glass beads in a gorgeous swirly pink and the fabulous turquoise ones with black and white spots . The Cherry Brand if you remember from a post a little while back were made in Japan during their occupation from 1945 - 1952, the West German glass beads were most likely made in the 1940’s and the Deco beads would most definitely be 100 years old give or take 10 years ....... All these beautiful beads come to me having never been in circulation, meaning I have not dismantled old necklaces to get them but they are old stock that was out of circulation for many and varied reasons and years! 20.01.2022 Ethiopia dreaming Today in Ethiopia is Meskal, an annual religious holiday to mark the finding of the True Cross upon which Jesus was crucified. On the eve of Meskal , communities gather together to sing , pray and dance around the Demera.... I was lucky enough to to be in Ethiopia with Tigist and Haimanot one year for the Meskal celebrations, it was truly spectacular. The Demaras are piles of neatly arranged dried sticks and flowers, by evening these Demeras will be lit on fire The holiday is based on the legend of Empress Eleni finding the True Cross. In about 326 AD, she set out on a mission to find the True Cross. She was told by elders to light a fire and follow the smoke which would lead her to the Cross. Taking their advice she found the True Cross . The burning of the fires is to represent the way the True Cross was found with help from the smoke. I had never seen so many bonfires as I saw that night .... During the day you could see them being set up as people scurried around buying bundles of sticks, Meskal daisies and grass for the celebrations. As you swipe through my images you’ll see how the daisies and grass are sold and then the bonfires being lit by priests after much singing , prayer and dancing. It was an incredible celebration to be a part of and to spend with my Ethiopian family . I was thrilled with this design created for me by talented artisans in Pakistan with the help from @kolachi.by.shazia.bano .... RBG was widely admired as a judicial icon, a Supreme Court Justice and a pioneering advocate for women’s rights . RBG was also known for her sartorial accomplishments , for as long as she’s been in the Supreme Court, she’s dressed up her black robes with some truly fabulous neckwear. What distinguished her fashion sense was how she attached subtle meaning to her neck pieces and her ability to communicate something with what she wore around her neck . A friend suggested I make an RBG necklace and this is the result.... 08.01.2022 I Tuesday! I have this stunning brooch from @dannypollakaccessories that arrived the other week..... I adore it ! ... It’s so beautifully made and such a show stopper I’d been trying to dream up a way to create a necklace for it to be worn on ...... nothing was making me really excited about it until today. My 4 year old grandson loves finding treasures in my studio.... he was wanting jewels for the little wooden chest he keeps beads and things in so I produced a big old bag of chandelier crystals. As I sorted through them the light bulb went on !!!! These chandelier crystals were the perfect way to balance the size of the brooch when it’s worn pinned to the necklace . The jacket was a vintage one I had that she wangled out of my wardrobe a few years ago I’ve embellished it with cut outs from a worn out Chinese embroidery, I’ve secured them with embroidery and beading , added some stars and some Swarovski brooches I made for some extra sparkle In the image Katie is also wearing the Big Sister tie to show how it looks being worn inside a collar.
