Their name, "koala", comes from Aborigine language and means "no water". They are found inhabiting Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia in open eucalypt woodlands, and the leaves of these trees make up most of their diet. Because this eucalypt diet has limited nutritional and caloric content, koalas are largely sedentary and slee...p up to 20 hours a day. They have 5 fingers one is an opposable thumb that helps them grip tree branches. Though koalas look fuzzy, their hair is more like the coarse wool of a sheep. 23.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW: Edward Blyth who was an English zoologist and worked for most of his life in India as a curator of zoology at the museum of the Asiatic Society of India in Calcutta first identified the northern cassowary from a specimen in an aviary located in Calcutta, India, in 1860. In the breeding season, the polygamous female lays three to five green eggs on a well camouflaged nest prepared by the male; she then leaves the nest and eggs to find another mate.
