22.01.2022 The time honoured Bowen Mountain childhood tradition of Tadpole Fishing. These whoppers (*caught and released) measured an incredible 70mm in length! and were found in the creek behind Clewitt’s. So much nostalgia here, reliving exactly the same Bowen Mountain adventures of our own childhood. Does anyone know what type of frogs these hugemongous taddies belong to?

21.01.2022 What is the story with our pump out system? Why do we pay so much? Why do we have to pay for inspections? What are our rates actually for? Deputy Mayor Mary Lyons-Buckett May have some interesting insights...

18.01.2022 The latest on the Bowen Mountain #Telstra saga: (according to Telstra): The estimates repair timeframe has been changed to early next week. As work has progressed, inspections of the cable some way down the mountain has uncovered significant damage to another section. ... This damage can be attributed to water getting in and tracking downhill inside the cable. The team have carried out an assessment and close to 300m of cable needs replacing. The cable will arrive at some time tomorrow. Every effort will be made to replace the cable however a revised timeframe is now set for early next week. The length of cable required to restore this fault overall is over 800m

16.01.2022 We explored Bob Turner’s on the weekend after a few hours checking out the old wares shed on Blaxlands Ridge Rd (Rusty Ridge Shed)... both are well worth the effort!!! Bob Turner’s Track is a walking track located at Colo Heights. The track commences 700m north of the Service Station at Colo Heights on the western side of the Putty Road. Follow the 2WD dirt track for about 3km to start of the walk. The track descends gradually down to the Colo Gorge to a lovely picnic area ...with natural pool. Bob Turner was a former mayor of the Sydney Municipality of Ku-ring-gai who restored the track in 1971. The track was named after Turner when Wollemi National Park was declared in 1979. The original pack horse track was constructed by railway engineer George Townsend when he was surveying his route for a proposed railway line which followed the Colo River in order to cross the Blue Mountains. The track is steep in sections, but well maintained since the recent bushfires. It traverses various ridge lines and descends through cool, shady forests and crosses creeks to eventually descend to the Colo River. All up, we walked 8km, including some exploring of the river sections. Allow around 4 hours to complete the walk, depending on your fitness level. Be advised there is no mobile reception in the area, so as always, let someone know where you are going and when you intend to return.

16.01.2022 Another stunning photo submitted by Nic Eglin who found the best lookout on Bowen Mountain today, ...the majestic Poet’s Rock...

16.01.2022 Rhys Pope Photography, at it again!

16.01.2022 Our latest correspondence from Susan Templeman (Federal Member for Macquarie) on the ongoing .... ongoing.... and ..... ongoing Bowen Mountain #Telstra saga Dear Bowen Mountain residents, Thank you for sharing with me the extent of the impact on you of the Telstra network outage for the last few weeks caused by independent contractors working in the area.... We’ve tried to keep the pressure on Telstra and have been seriously disappointed at the time taken to fix the damaged cables you’d be aware that one cable became three. While one was repaired early last week, work to replace the second, a 230m 800 pair length, continued this week and then, unexpectedly, they found they’ve had to replace a third, 330m length of cable further down the mountain, affected by water. The latest advice is that they worked around the clock to haul and joint the new cable and services may begin to be restored today. My comment to that is: please don’t hold your breath. In the meantime, many people have been able to connect to the NBN, which became available for some residents on Monday. To check if you are ready to connect, go to www.nbnco.com.au and enter your address. If your home is ready, you simply contact your preferred service provider and arrange connection the speed of connection will depend on your provider. If yours is not ready, keep an eye on the site if you can because we are being told that more homes are expected to be ready over the coming weeks. Some residents have asked me about compensation like a credit on their bill. Telstra is working to ensure an automatic credit is applied to their customers impacted by the outage. Telstra customers seeking more than this should ring 13 22 03 or contact Telstra online at https://www.telstra.com.au//account-payme/make-a-complaint . If you are not with Telstra then contact your service provider to request a credit. If you have difficulties with Telstra or your service provider, please contact my office with your details including customer number so we can escalate your complaint to the relevant service provider. It is open to residents who are not satisfied to contact the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman at www.tio.com.au or telephone 1800 062 058. I’ll continue to advocate for improved mobile services as well. What has made this outage more difficult than it should have been is that there is such poor mobile service coverage from the carriers. That’s got to continue as a top priority. Kind regards, Susan

01.01.2022 What a month it has been for the humble Freesia! The edges of Bowen Mountain Park (pictured) adorned with a delicate crown of Freesias, more than ever before, and filling the park with their intoxicating perfume. Grose Vale and East Kurrajong have seen an explosion of these delightful kerbside posies. Who else has noticed them locally??
